  1. As one of the people who wrote this story, I can tell you the problems at UAB run much worse than the article states, including the fact that the trustees would not take a donation that would've paid for the indoor practice facility- instead wanting to put it in the scholarship deficit fund. We can complain all we want about our situation, but at least we have supportive regents. How many of you would've taken Jimbo Fisher back in 2006? (bring out the Harbaugh conspiracy theorists)
  2. I think the most mind boggling part of overtime was when DD decided to go for a field goal on 2nd down.... my introduction to UNT football...
  3. Texas doesn't have a student athletic fee either as well as most programs who make enough money from athletics to self fund the department. I'm an athletics guy but I've gotta agree with Ben Gooding in that I'm much more concerned about our universities struggle for Tier 1 status than anything else.
  4. The link is somewhere, but everyone should have a read of the Monday Morning QB article that details the close friendship between Mean Joe and his fellow linemates. Unfortunately, they all passed away far too early, and Mean Joe is the only one that still is living today.
  5. To all in Austin this weekend, You are cordially invited to the Mean Green Complaint Hour, otherwise known as join me for a beer at the Silo. Come for 5 seconds, or come for 5 hours as we discuss the disappointing year being had by the Green Guys. Topics to be Discussed: -Can the defensive demise this year be traced to the players stealing leftover Grey Goose from Dan McCarney's cabinet? Or is our DC just drunk every game? -Carlos Harris Sr's Twitter Account - If Dajon Williams puts his feelings on Twitter, should we believe them to a T a la teenage girls and Justin Bieber lyrics (is he still cool?) -How can we use the might of the Mean Green nation to force all youth sports leagues to only play games on Saturday at 8 in the morning so that no alums miss an 11 am kickoff? -What the f*** is the Sinclair Network? -Should we move the last few Coaches Show to a vegetarian restaurant since this team doesn't have much meat to it? -If we had an open tryout for Greeks for the team, would they be more inclined to come inside the stadium? -How will we end our Arena League player drought? -Who would make for a more interesting Scrappy, Greg Abbott or Wendy Davis? I think I'm gonna head down around 1 or so.
  6. The only school in Texas that can make this type of complaint is Rice. The acceptance rate at the school is at an all-time low, 14 percent. Somehow, they still get the recruits in though... The last three coaches we've had haven't been innovators. Dodge was in HS, but never adapted to the college game. (His style was successful in HS because kids played it starting in 6th grade), Dickey wasn't an innovator, and McCarney, while I guess he's a great motivator, isn't an innovator. He's a retread. Yes, he has a chip on his shoulder, but has he learned anything since his Iowa State tenure? All of us on this board are desperate for success at UNT, whether they be in bball, fball or academics (I for one would like to see more money towards building our business school and journalism programs). To do this, we need to hire those who will break the mold. I wouldn't mind searching the lower ranks for a coach with a quirky style but who is getting the job done. Yes, McCarney was an understudy of Hayden Fry, but does that matter to today's kids? A lot of schools (yes, I'm making a generalization) in Texas are running the spread. Kids love the spread. Even TCU completely changed their offensive philosophy and it's paid dividends this year, thanks to Sonny Cumbie (a Leach disciple). I know this post is a mismash of crap, but I just think we don't embrace innovation enough at UNT. Whether it's creative scheduling, fan promotions, or even how we recruit students, we must think outside the box- hire the quirky. Hire a young guy, who might leave us in a few years (a la Clint Bowen), promote something different, I'm tired of being good ole UNT, where we are "Above the rest for thousands less"- aim more for Texas's tagline.

  8. You wouldn't tell me that if UNT was in a position like Auburn and about to knock off huge rival to advance to a championship game, you wouldn't think George would be in hysterics?

  10. We've had a lot of responses so far which means people love writing and the Mean Green. Thanks to adam (aztecskin) UNT is one of the more trafficked (is that the right spelling) schools. Anyone is free to post content- even if you have another CUSA loyalty as well, though UTEP has its own site. Thanks to everyone. Happy 5775.
  11. The game is at 1:30. Depending on the synagogue you go to, services should be over by 2, with the afternoon service not starting until 6ish. You're good.
  12. THat 11am start time sucked, but I'd rather be able to tell my friends to "watch us on tv tonight" then not.
  13. I *think* the Silo is playing the game saturday... anyone down to watch?
  14. Rally House has a good selection on everything except polos
  15. If there's one thing we all can agree on, it's that our uniforms have gotten marketably better since McCarney got here.
  16. Could've sworn I saw this in my freshman year (2006). Run, run, run, and if it doesn't work run or 3 yard out right? Wonder why Mac is 40 games under .500 for his career?
