  1. Well... My hastily picked crappy bracket is doing well in the yahoo pool... Kinda shocked
  2. So.. how the hell did only 2 people pick UK to win it all?
  3. Never happen,,, 1 stupid to add another Texas team to a texas heavy conference 2 A&M is more than likely to have to technically sever themselves from the UT system (they are still a part of the UT system on the books. That is why the PUF fund is managed by UT, not by both) before they could ever do this. Reason why it wont ever happen it makes that much more risky about the percentages of the distribution. If they tell the other schools in the state to approve it by reducing the % A&M gets and UT will instead transfer that to the general fund. Its a risk adverse strategy that no one wants to play it. 3 Why the hell would baylor, TT and others help UH anyways 4 pitching a fit like this seems to be a normal thing that happens every decade or
  4. Not bad.. But then its a hotdog.. Get two and grab a beer
  5. $1 hotdog night... Nobody here.. But I'll eat more than enough to help make up for it
  6. 1. This is a wonderful idea, except for the fact due to their change in mandates they are essentially pushing an additional cost (be it only about 150 or so) back on the doc students to rent a different set of regalia and then purchase another set. 2. Most schools do not provide free rentals anymore. Most regalia if provided is now funded out of the department or college and not the university. It sucks, but that is the way the world has moved to. FYI, don't be shocked the that free regalia provided by UNT (which is most likely not funded at the university level but at he department or college level) be on the chopping block as well. 3. Depends on the school. Some schools do, some schools do not. The biggest issue here is making green mandatory instead of an option is that most schools accept black as the default or their school specific colored regalia. And for those that state that the graduation does not confer the degree, you are correct. But when dealing with doctorates the primary reason why the universtriy restrict the application for graduation until you have a submitted manuscript to the graduate reader is that we are notorious about not finishing the dissertation. By letting people walk in May without the completed dissertation, you are inviting disaster.
  7. Until you realize that those green robes cost 1k+ and there is a strong possibility that after making that purchase I may have to buy another traditional (black) color at my new institution. The problem isn't that they are changing, the problem is that that they are telling everyone after the application to apply for December graduation. Combine that with killing off the most common doctoral graduation in August and changing the robe color to boot, and you are going to see many angry new doctorates. I'm in the business college, paying 1k for robes a year after I get out won't kill me. Most of the other new doctorates that will be a huge financial commitment that may or may not be flushed when they get to their new institution. The whole entire process was poorly timed and they did little to no checking with the doc students on the potential impact of these changes. That is extremely unfortunate and will cause many to hold a long-term grudge. As an example, if you make May graduation mandatory how does that work with international students and visa requirements? If they can't walk in August do they intend to let walk in May without graduating beforehand? If not, how does that impact their visa paperwork and OPT by forcing them out in May instead of August? If not then now you are saying that the graduation and dissertation deadlines no longer matter if you are letting them walk instead in May. That leads to an even larger mess. That means I do not need to submit a completed dissertation to graduate. That is a disaster waiting to happen and will lead to an even larger number of dissertations going incomplete. To go further. if I walk in May as a graduate, they stand a chance of cutting my funding, because I am no longer a student. No what? The school is no longer liable for me if I am not student. No insurance, no office, no access to materials to compete my research (which may or may not be finished). If I am no longer a student where am I going to work from mid May till mid August, when the faculty jobs all start? That will be a huge issue here. By killing the summer graduation you are screwing up the academic schedule for placement.
  8. Im pissed.. Screwed me out of my true doctoral graduation.. Now screwing with my doctoral robes (they want green instead of black). Those things are a grand a piece.. Not liking this shit at all. Pretty much shit all over the doc students on this one.. lets just say that any donation I will be making is not going to the general fund but to COB scholarship fund.. Not happy.. not happy at all..
  9. Much more accurate than anyone would believe... And we are not the only ones and truthfully are a minor offender compared to at least one Big 12 team
  10. Thanks for an excellent venue and your continued support of UNT athletics John... You do us all proud
  11. So people are shocked the auditors say that they want UNT to pay it back? That is all fine and dandy, but the legislature will hedge knowing that if you force UNT to pay it back, so will several other schools out there that have enough political cache to make it go away. This is one of those things that for some reason will be used as a negative tool or threat against UNT for a while, but nothing is likely to actually come of it.
  12. Interesting.. Never waited more than 5 minutes on any of my beer trips
  13. decisions decisions... Have the B10N at home... But ESSC is always such fun.. Hmm... will probably be a gameday decision
  14. I was talking to another faculty member about the shift away from an alumni driven policy to a student driven policy last week and he made a very astute point. "If we get the students to the game, in an enviroment and atmosphere we can control, it has much farther reaching effects than just one more # on the turnstile for the student side. If you get a student to buy into the benefits of being a student, then they will also hopefully buy into the requirements to stay a student." ie lower drop rates, higher grades, better acceptance and identification with the UNT brand. All of those go hand in hand with the desire for the university to increase our academic reputation. It is a fine line to dance between partying so much that we get the party school monicker and providing school sponsored nonacademic events that enhance the student experience, but the slow march to a better academic standing will be closely tied to keeping and graduating our students in a timely manner (4,5, and 6 year graduation rates) as well as research funding and entrance exam scores. It is important to have the alumni in the stands now, but the students are the long term investment in the program and the university and sometimes that part is forgotten. Athletics is the biggest marketing tool we have and unfortunately it is one of the things we did not pay enough attention to in the past.
  15. The problem is that we dont have the space to put the stuff that was in the union to begin with. We tried and it isnt working out. Use the sack and save as a space for a year or two and then flatten it and go from there
  16. Well.. 4,5,and 6 year grad rates and retention rates are becoming a bigger and bigger part in the evaluation of universities. The fact that FR enrollment is down and retention is up is great on both fronts. If you show higher selectivity and better retention is has a major impact in the national ranking on the university.
  17. DT did not have a "big arm". You can tell a noticeable difference between DW and DT's arm strength. For that matter there was a noticeable difference is Greer's arm strength during the spring game and DT's. With Greer's screwed mechanics and foot placement now, him and DT are about on par. If DT had DW's arm, he would have been perfect for Mac's O. Let them stack the box and either play action or throw deep on single coverage. Its not the mobility element or the running element that Mac desires, it is enough of one of those to be able capitalize on the fact that his run first mantra will see many 9 men in the box sets from the opposing D. A running QB will force them to and/or spy the QB and spread the defensive front beyond the tackle box. A QB with an accurate arm can exploit the mid range and short passes on a quick pass set to force a D out of loading the box. A big arm QB can stretch them down the field and force the safeties and/or LB to play an additional step back. Any of those in combination with a run first O will work great. The problem is that DT was somewhat accurate and had enough running game to keep teams honest. Greer right now, either through mechanics or nerves or what ever, has no real accuracy or arm strength. Hopefully DW can rely on his legs to force the D back on their heels and then eventually use his arm strength. DT's just didnt have the arm, which is a shame because it would have made Chancellor that much scarier..
  18. You could see LT creep up and put 9 to 10 men in the box on 1st and 2nd down for most of the first half. Anything that forces them to change that to 7 or 8 men with one man over the top and 2 men forced wide will both open up the middle of the field to pass, but also allow the OL the ability to get to the second level inline blocking. By not having the OL have to get a hat on hat on every play and instead allow for some down hill blocking should help wear down the LB's and in turn allow the guys to actually hammer away at the center of the defense. All this is going to be conditioned on the fact that DJ can run outside early and that teams are forced to respect the deep ball more
  19. Its go time.. I guess Mac had to accept that winning with DJ and having to police him a bit to develop the correct habits is much better than losing to teach the kid a lesson. Now lets see teams try to go 9 in the box and let DJ run wide
  20. No CUSA teams in the list? Well we got a couple in the waiting area.. Progress.. that was always one of the problems with the SBC. Even when we were good everyone always said all we do is play the worst of CFB and would point to the bottom 10 as an example of our competition.
  21. I predict that this will make a lot of young coordinators "consider" the job and then get a nice bump at their current school
  22. Actually the persians contigent left at half because they were too hot.. I was like what the hell... you guys live in the desert. Mehrdad said yes, but this is like going ot a futbol match in an oven
