  1. Watching on the game on MG Sports internet broadcast is not the same as being there in person, but here goes. Pretty much agree on the QB's and receivers. For 15 days to learn a new system, they looked good. The defense looked good as most have described. I especially liked, from the defensive standpoint, that several attempted passes were batted down at the line of scrimmage. That's a really good thing. Gilmore is going to be a factor this year. Coach Dodge has not implemented his whole offensive playbook, probably due to the introduction of his system in only 15 days, and no doubt because of OU spys in attendance, but I would like to see passes out in the flat to our running backs. And of course the screen pass. Also, I'd like to see the QB under center a few times. Or will this be a 100% no-huddle spread? Not complaining, just asking. All in all it looked like a very productive game. Very well organized on the sidelines.
  2. Offense 48 Defense 29 Crowd in excess of 5,000.
  3. North Texas still in the news. From Bob West's column this morning. "Ever since Southlake Carroll quarterback Riley Dodge committed to Texas a few weeks ago, I’ve wondered how Todd Dodge agreed to let his son go anywhere other than North Texas, especially to a school that probably won’t use him as a QB. I finally found out Friday. “Since Riley is pretty much what we’re looking for at North Texas — we aren’t hung up on whether a player is 5-11 of 6-3 — it wasn’t easy,” Todd said. “But he grew up with his room painted burnt orange. He loves the Longhorns. And I trust Mack Brown and Greg Davis. They were both honest about recruiting him as an athlete. We had a family meeting before he went to their junior day and decided if they offered him and that’s what he wanted, he should take it. As a dad, I’m excited about him playing for my alma mater. As a coach, I’m going to miss him. He’ll be on one the top three quarterbacks in the state as a senior and we could have used him. Texas is one of only three or four schools I would have approved.” Mosely to be in Denton for game today. "Nobody was more unhappy than Nederland’s Larry Neumann when the roster of the South team for the July 31 THSCA All-Star game in Fort Worth was announced without the name of the Bulldogs 4A All-State standout Micah Mosley. “I was astonished and disappointed,” Neumann said. “I felt like he had the best credentials of anybody we’ve ever nominated. I know there are a lot of factors that play into the selections, but I think Micah deserved to be on that team.” Mosley, incidentally, is in Denton today to watch North Texas’ Green-White spring game."
  4. And this is a good thing? Anyone remember how many times we beat MUTS prior to last year? We beat the MUTS spread through some hardnose football and better players.
  5. "The university has raised about $29 million in private donations for the stadium...." Just a little something I wanted to highlight while I wait on the big spring announcement from UNT athletics. Wait....were they talking about next spring?
  6. I look for the NCAA or conferences to make wholesale changes in 1A classifications within the next 10 years. What we will end up with is an "ultra BC$" conference that only the rich and famous programs will be members of. Some of the "pseudo BC$", or as I prefer to describe them, BC$ Lite, programs like So. Florida, Cinncinati, etc. will not be included. Criteria may just be 85,000 plus stadiums that are filled every weekend - for TV, of course! Who knows, maybe the NFL will buy out the NCAA and take over just the BCS big boys. I dunno, but the college football dollar spend race has gotten totally out of hand.
  7. Greatest road trip I ever made. Here is a picture from that very game.
  8. My oldest brother was a Phi Kapp at Tulane.
  9. "The '67 defense that swarmed opponents with its tough front seven also included Henry Holland, Ed Brantley, Bob Tucker, James Ivy and Johnny Mata." The article sates he was on defense; I remember him being an offensive tackle.
  10. If my memory is correct, wasn't Ed Brantley an offensive tackle? That article really brings back fond memories of North Texas football. I was there.
  11. Pffffffffffffffffffttt. I was all set to listen to the broadcast at 9:30, only to find out it was over.
  12. Not sure about the P & Z part, but the city will have to be involved in drainage, sewage, water, etc.
  13. I'm going to check into this. Which one? or All chrome on both?
  14. Speak to various community organizations?
  15. babyarm, Great signature pic!!
  16. Hey, that's where I sit! Now do you know who I am?
  17. Excuse my ignorance, but what is this area by the athletic village? Indoor practice facility under construction?
  18. I'll add that it means a potential D1A win for Baylor. They must figure the odds are in their favor to beat Buffalo; just the opposite for UNT. And just a guess, but should Baylor become bowl eligible, including a win over Buffalo, the financial gain for a B12 team in a bowl game may outweigh the cost of a trip to NY. Just a guess. I could be wrong.
  19. I've been concerned about our lack of scheduling Texas school before Dodge was hired. But I agree that our situation could get worse, depending on how successful TD is.
  20. I'm glad that someone else brought this up. I was looking at the future schedules of Big 12 and CUSA Texas teams, plus other teams from surrounding states, and I'm amazed that we are not on any of their schedules other than this years SMU game. I sure hope our AD is hard at work trying to schudule Baylor, TCU, TxTech, SMU, Houston, UTEP, Rice, Tulsa, Houston, Tulane, Oklahoma State, La Tech, etc. We must continue to play these schools. And I don't necessarily mean the UT's and A $ M's of the world(although I'd like to go up against the Aggie$ again. Look at the Aggie$ schedule this year. Montana State and ULM. Last year they played The Citadel and a couple of other lame schools. Why not keep the money in the state of Texas and schedule UNT?
  21. Thanks. I'm sure that a professional graphic artist could really do a great job on the same concept.
  22. Less than two hours for Mean Green Sports to give us th daily outlook on the linebackers.
  23. If the AD thinks SMU is the cause for all things that don't go our way, then it's time the Administration, AD, and BOR starts "smoozing" the folks on the hill. We need make them our best friends. Do a selling job on them.
