  1. I am no history buff, but this has to be one of the most corrupt governments in American history.
  2. Tells you something about your program when you lose one of your coaches to a high school.
  3. These people simply amaze me with what they are getting away with, and how they apply the old double standard. Reid should resign. Reid Should Reisgn "The Republican Party chairman on Sunday accused Democrats of a double standard by accepting Sen. Harry Reid's apology for racial remarks about Barack Obama instead of demanding Reid's ouster as majority leader. In a private conversation reported in a new book, Reid described Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign as a "light-skinned" African-American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."
  4. Amazing that a program only 13 years old could pay their coach that kind of money. "Leavitt was in the second year of a seven-year, $12.6 million contract."
  5. I didn't care one way or the other how the game would turn out. I even predicted that 'Bama would win by 21 pts. (a stretch, I know). I do believe that Texas played with one arm tied behind their backs. You just can't throw a frosh QB into a game of this magnitude and not have mistakes. Say four interceptions by 'Bama. Gilbert played a whale of a ballgame considering the circumstances; he and Texas should hold their heads high. With McCoy playing the entire game, who knows what the outcome may have been. Personally, I think 'Bama's win was tainted somewhat because of McCoy being out. But..........'Bama played a great game. Good ole smash mouth football. Arm tackle Ingram? I couldn't believe how many missed "arm tackles" Texas defenders made last night. Speaking of McCoy, I really thought he was all class during his post-game interview after the game. Congratulated 'Bama on two occasions, and accepted no excuses for the loss. He's a good kid.
  6. The older one gets, the shorter the timeline for UNT athletic success.
  7. Did Deloss Dodds fly the UT officiating crew out to California on Tuesday or Wednesday? I'm not saying, just asking......
  8. Apples and oranges. Kelly's resume is slightly better than SS. Last I checked, Clemson had a losing program while SS was an Assistant. Kelly's head coaching resume includes: -- Three seasons at Cincinnati from 2007-09, including a 34-6 record (.850) and two straight outright BIG EAST Conference title teams that earned BCS appearances in 2008 (Orange Bowl) and '09 (Sugar Bowl). -- Three seasons at Central Michigan University from 2004-06, including a 19-16 overall record (.542) that featured a 9-4 mark and Mid-American Conference title in 2006. -- Thirteen seasons at Grand Valley State University from 1991-2003, including a 118-35-2 record (.767) that was highlighted by NCAA Division II national championships in 2002 (14-0) and 2003 (14-1). -- An overall record of 171-57-2 (.747) in those 19 seasons as a head coach.
  9. Trilli left the mens program in shambles. I really like Johnny Jones a lot, and he has brought stability to the men's program and represents the University well. But don't lose sight of the fact that some of Johnny's success (wins) has come at the hands of 20 or so NAIA teams over his tenure. Slinker left the women's program in somewhat decent shape. I just think RV could have made a much better hire and Shanice is a disaster unfolding before our very eyes. And Donna Capps comes to mind. She was available and interviewed for the job. But noooooooooooooo- why hire a proven head coach when you can hire an assistant from a losing program at a big name school like Clemson? "For former TX-Arlington coach Donna Capps, it was just the right time to leave. She'd just put the finishing touches on a stellar seven-year run that saw her go 119-89--the most wins in Mavericks program history--and earn two SLC Coach of the Year awards, as her team finished the season 24-9--also a school record for wins--capping three consecutive 20-win seasons."
  10. From Vito's blog- ULL snaps skid against slumping UNT women ULL snapped a 21-game Sun Belt Conference losing streak against UNT last night. I thought I would post a quick note about it before heading to the airport on the way to today's UNT-ULL men's game. ULL hadn't won a conference game since March 1, 2008, when the Cajuns beat Denver 66-44. UNT was up 10 early in the second half . Denetra Kellum had 19 points, Brittney James added 17 and Jasmine Godbolt had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The problem -- once again -- was that UNT turned the ball over 29 times. UNT is 4-12. "94 feet of heat"? Looks like a coaching hire bust once again! Guess we hired SS based on a great powerpoint presentation, regardless of the fact she came from a losing womens program.
  11. Why didn't they name this the "Dan LeFevour Fairwell Bowl"? Good grief.
  12. REally! I feel like I'm listening to the UT-'Bama pre game show. Who cares about Gordon Shipley and McCoy!!!
  13. Call me crazy, but I've been predicting the Tide steamrolls the whorns by 3 TD's.
  14. And....... Like some random sports talk host said, the BCS hiarchy felt sorry for little Timmy Tebow crying on the sideline against 'Bama and wanted him to beat up someone. Enter Cincy. I sure would like to have seen TCU dismantle Florida. BCS looks out for themselves.
  15. Can't disagree. But this is not high school band competition. This is college football pagentry we are talking about, for the college students, casual fans, and the old guard alumni base. Like me.
  16. Couldn't have responded better! I was viewing some other bowl game or pre-bowl game the other night and one of the bands from another well-known university performed the same way. Semi high stepping, spats, the whole thing. I really thought that band was energized. Don't get me wrong, I think the Green Brigade is great. I have never cared for the symphonic music they sometimes play nor the marching arrangements. And our pre-game could be so much better if they would get rid of that damn Fly Like An Eagle. Why not some of the traditional music, Texas Our Texas. After all, we are from the state of Texas. Sure the whorn band plays that, but so what.
  17. I was thinking about those losses to Boise State and FIU. Had we won those two game like we should have, and sitting at 11-2, would UNT be ranked or at least be receiving some votes for the top 25? I think we would be receiving some votes. If only we had won.
  18. Good discussion here. The question is, at the end of the day will Troy's low academics keep them from moving up to another conference (CUSA) when an opening occurs, or will their success on the gridiron help them move up? My guess is success on the fooball field will rule.
  19. My hometown is across the highway from Groves, Texas. Does that count?
  20. But did he have high school experience? Seriously, I was impressed with Idaho and Coach Akey all year. Idaho has been in the cellar for several years, they then make a coaching change, and BAM! Bowl game victory his first year at the helm. Impressive.
  21. And this thread is on the UNT football board because......................??
