  1. 10 minutes until the regular season begins, and I'm now really wondering what I was thinking taking Willie Parker with my second pick. Gonna see in a few minutes if I screwed my entire season in the first 5 minutes of the draft.
  2. I remember watching those two (linebackers) in the mid 90s. Lunch-bucket types who brought it each and every game. Fun to watch. I remember after a game against Vanderbilt (which we lost at Fouts, 1996 I think), the Vandy running back singling out Cherry as someone who rung his bell all game long.
  3. You ain't kidding. Maybe we should work on them as another sister city thing for UNT Football, ala Mexia? Utopia They're clearly in a pro-Dodge part of the state:
  4. This says quite a bit about the offense as well (game plan and execution). Just three punts. That has a lot to do with the TOP advantage for the game.
  5. Comrade, the nanotech chip that was secretly implanted in your hand when you reached out for the stimulus checks will tell you when it is time. Усики Гитлер для каждого!
  6. Where I grew up, that was called courting. Might just confuse her.
  7. Just an observation based on that assessment. I did notice that on BSU's first drive, on third down, that Eddrick Gilmore mad a heckuva play to disrupt the quarterback. After the snap, the O-line began to break into their pass-blocking assignments. There was a split second where the center and guard were shifting to their assignments, and Eddrick shifted his body and blew completely through the small crease between them. He got to the qb, wrapped him up, but the QB squirted out at the last second. Robertson got the sack, and EG seemed to be pissed at himself for not bringing the guy down (Page did have good feet tonight). Nonetheless, it was a big play to stomp their momentum, and it was EG's quickness and vision that made it happen even though he didn't get the sack. Maybe playing him in the rotation at DT wasn't the worst idea in the world?
  8. Apparently, he can be a bit bipolar
  9. Rushing stats thus far: North Texas Rushing CAR YDS AVG TD LG Cam Montgomery 7 70 10.0 0 25 Lance Dunbar 9 42 4.7 1 16 Riley Dodge 5 36 7.2 0 11 Jeremi Mathis 2 16 8.0 0 10 Team 24 160 6.7 1 25 That's 160 yards for a 6.7 yd average at halftime!
  10. During halftime, he will also give Chuck Norris a motivational speech on the topic: "Zen and the Art of Roundhouse Maintenence."
  11. You're on to something there. All he ever did wrong was have to play in the shadow of Maher when we moved back to I-A. The year before we moved back, three of our best offensive weapons graduated: Mitch, TE Luis Silva, and WR Dave Brown (?or was it Mike?). Pretty much all that was left offensively from the Southland Championship team the previous year was Troy Redwine. Jason had to lead the team during a difficult transition time, with players recruited for a different division. He never complained (that you could tell), took some serious hits, and kept coming back. Good call on this Grand Green.
  12. Well, the type of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do.
  13. Actually, out of frustration that her four-wide formation was ineffective, she reluctantly got under center and emphasized the ground game by releasing Anu "The Bull" on the draw play every third and long situation. This failing miserably, she eventually gave up and went back to the minor Pantheon league.
  14. I'm so happy football season is almost here.
  15. True, but he would have scored with several magical cheerleaders along the way and said it was his duty. You know, respecting local customs. [this is a pleasant first, a blatant political thread hijacked by allusions to classical literature]
  16. Epic of Gligamesh. And Enkidu would have made a killer middle linebacker.
  17. Beat me to it. Was afraid to do an image search for this on the work computer.
  18. Here's a thought: Instead of debating whose statistical paradigm for determining abolute football-era suprememcy is more suspect/inferior, how about a little trip down memory lane? Who was your favorite player to WATCH during your time at North Texas? I don't mean who had the sexiest stats, should/shouldn't be in the HOF, led their team to victory week in and week out stuff. I just mean who made it a pleasure to truck your butt to Fouts by the way they laid it all out on the field. I nominate RB Hut Allred, mid 90s. The guy was a nuclear bowling ball with cleats attached. Ran downhill, North/South, didn't try to put too many moves on tacklers, but had a way to make them miss or run over them. The guy had a motor and determination that was fierce to watch. I remember the first game he was put in as a freshman. When he was told he was going in, Hut started going nuts on the sideline. I mean he just started pacing around on the sideline, hitting his helmet, as if he couldn't wait for the defense to finish the job so he could get out there and hit somebody, so he started hitting himself. Really, I'm starting this thread since there are so many different generations of supporters on here, who have seen so many different players over the years, that I'm curious which individual players made gameday a more enjoyable experience besides the usual "we won" stuff. Any takers?
  19. Wow. Unbelievable. Back in 2001, I was living in a little town in North Carolina and didn't have the cable-package needed to watch the first New Orleans bowl game against Colorado State. I walked to the nearest bar and asked if they'd put the bowl game on. Now, this was a small town in the middle of Duke-North Carolina-NC State basketball country, and football just didn't register with people. However, the guy at the bar said "Oh, you mean that new bowl, with that Colorado team and one from Texas? Sure! Do you know anything about the teams?" I had to agree to buy 2 pitchers of beer to keep the station tuned into the game since no one else there initially was interested. But 1,500 miles away, they at least knew what was going on, and by the end of the evening half the bar was rooting for UNT just cause of the moxie of Kassel and others that played hard till the end. Hard to believe a campus-adjacent place would be so clueless.
  20. I don't follow baseball, but I do have some "outside the box" suggestions for free agent pickups any Ranger list should consider: Walker, Texas Ranger The Alpha and the Omega; the Uber and the Alles. No explanation needed. Red Power Ranger A consistent team Leader. He already has the team colors as well, so no new uniform needed. Cornell's Ranger Robot The undisputed 'walk' leader. Not as sexy as home-runs, but he gets around the bases with no problem. Night Ranger If nothing else, they proven that you can still rock in America, and deserve a look from some team. The Lone Ranger A little controversial. Was originally hailed as a leader in integration, though later was accused of merely co-opting ethnic minorities' contributions for PR purposes alone while not challenging the power structure. The Nasal Ranger No idea why this is on the list. Aragorn, Ranger of Eriador and member of The Company of the Ring Perhaps overated. Though, he is the undisputed upset king, always managing to lead his overmatched team from being down in the 9th to victory.
  21. It sounds like scoring was involved. How is that not related (and needed) on a UNT Football forum? Congrats Eagle-D!
  22. Between that visual and Quoner's cognition-halting allusion on your blog to Della Reese, Wendy Williams, Peanut Butter, and junk, I might not be able to turn on my computer again for weeks. And in the past, that was always the place I went to for stimulation. Thanks for ruining it for me.
  23. Agreed on first suggestion, though I would hope there would be room for the miscellaneous folderol that found it's way there as well. On second suggestion, I tend to agree, though it seemed it was more of the hyper-active political posturing, as opposed to honest give and take, that got the forum banned from itself. But, Harry gave everyone adequate warning, and it was ignored. He built this city; he can giveth and taketh away as he pleases: [in response to the article posted: Cunagin Sypher? Wasn't that the name of one of the chicks from The Matrix? Is that even a real name????? I'm guessing they didn't meet at a Sizzler]
