  1. we aspire to be respected with the big boys...yet turn around and lay the same bullshit excuse of "those schools are big time and can expect a loyal following" out there as if the blatant hypocrisy of it isn't staring us in the face... So which one is it folks? Do we want to be big time or do we want to continue claiming we're not and then turn as our crutch and then turn around a complain about lack of respect? Heads or Tails. A or B. Which one? OU vs. OSU...was it on Thanksgiving weekend or was it not? How about TX vs. aTm? Was the weather bad or was it not? Blame the students. Blame the administration. Blame the alumni. Hell, blame me, that's en vogue. But whomever you choose to point the finger at realize that we will never EVER be spoken of in the same breath as those we want to compare ourselves to, no not even Boise State, until we stop leaning on our crutch of "we're not there yet." Gee, why aren't we there yet? Could it be...just a guess...we don't pack Fouts because the Mean Green are playing and not because of WHO the Mean Green are playing? Sure, point to how we don't win consistently. Just show me the pictures of an empty Kyle Field when they're losing. Tell me we don't have a history of winning. But then explain to me what reason, any reason, a quality athlete has to come to Denton to play to sparse crowds. Blame our athletics department for their promotions. But also pretend our games aren't in every major paper in DFW, on the athletics website, and talked about in conversation amongst our fanbase. Which one do we truly want? Excuses...or results. We asked the same question of Dickey and fired him. This is not intended as a sermon to chastise you sinners. Please, I don't think I could handle being called "super fan" one more time. And, no, I'm not just talking about Saturday. But I've seen the same circular arguments bandied about since I was 4 growing up in Denton. Then I heard them as a student. The proverbial line in the sand has gotta be drawn somewhere, right?
  2. Here ya go. Area Top 50 National Top 100
  3. I too think this is pointless. There is no such thing as a "super fan." Anyone who would think that "super fans" exist if just plain dumb. Here's an idea. Let's all make it a point to show up to all of the NT events humanly possible and then we might actually be able to lay claim to being the best fan base.
  4. You could always do what I do. I don't have enough insider information to be an "expert" either so I stick to asking people to show up to games...that makes me a "Super Fan" apparently. "Super Fan" is the correct term, right Sig?
  5. Step away from the keyboard and grab some Vagisil. Never, in any form or fashion, did the words "I am the greatest fan ever" appear in my post. I wonder, though, why this is how you took it.... My point, since you have never had reading comprehension as one of your strong points, is that yesterday was not an isolated occurence. I'll spell it out and use very small words...you can thank me later. There have been many games that our "fans" found every excuse possible not to attend. Hell, before we even knew of the bad weather, we had people saying they were going hunting or whatever. Some chose to make several high school football games on Friday but couldn't make it Saturday? We piss and moan (some of us...I won't paint everyone with the same brush) about how we need to be somewhere better than the lowly Sun Belt yet we can never be bothered to show up when it counts. True, the weather was H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. Yes, it was Thanksgiving weekend. But it was also senior night. We're not talking about Nichols State on a random night...we're talking about the last time 17 players who got up and lifted, ran, practiced, regardless of the weather, were gonna take the field at home in a North Texas jersey. And, no, I'm not just talking about yesterday. Banner raising for our basketball team? The other big games in our history that I mentioned? True, not everyone can make every one of them...I am blessed to have a schedule that allows it. But so many can't make it to any of them? And I still have to wonder why my mentioning these games brought forth such vitriole from you...even after several other replies in this thread that didn't seem to feel the need to show their utter disdain for my, what's the word you would use, arrogance perhaps? If arrogance isn't the correct word feel free to fill in the blank. Did I type "UNTSig you are horrible and should leave the fanbase immediately"? I'll re-read my original post and try to find where I typed that but I'm gonna go out on an equally long limb and say it's not there. Perhaps in the future when I feel the need to point out in big bold letters how comical it is that we aspire to be respected with the big boys...yet turn around and lay the same bullshit excuse of "those schools are big time and can expect a loyal following" out there as if the blatant hypocrisy of it isn't staring us in the face...I'll think better and realize that it will be taken as a personal affront to some of our more sensitive posters (again, sensitive was the best word I could come up with on short notice...feel free to interchange it with "reactionary", "delicate", "touchy" or "high-strung"). Bottom line for me is my alma mater was playing a football game yesterday. All else was secondary. This is the attitude that has UT where they are, has OU where they are, hell even has Boise State where they are...since we love to tout ourselves as the next Boise State. (This is the part in this post where I want to say, in no uncertain terms, that I'm not trying to personally attack those of you who were out of state and couldn't possibly be there...please go back and re-read what I just said before taking the UNTSig route and going off half-cocked)
  6. Man, and I was this close to believing you aren't a douche bag.
  7. For me it's like this, IF YOU WEREN'T THERE YESTERDAY YOU SHOULD HAVE NO OPINION ON THE GAME I told RV as he walked up the stands yesterday "look around, this is your true fan base" and I meant it. Years from now I will be able to tell my children about the monsoon against Nevada...because I was there! I'll be able to talk about the miracle in the desert...because I was there! The SBC championship game in basketball? Yep...cuz I was there! And last night's miserable conditions and WIN....yeah, I'll be able to tell that one too. I don't think anyone else should have the right to tell these stories or say that they appreciate them if they can't be bothered to come out and watch THEIR alma mater, on senior night, in a little cold weather.
  8. LSU goes down. Chance for a KU/Mizzou vs. WVU title game.
  9. Yeah...I don't know why I picked against the Aggies either. Two things I went against that I shouldn't have. 1)That feeling in my gut that Texas would complete their season in meltdown fashion like last season. 2)The fact that aTm, even (especially) when I was young and hated them, finds a way to win a game they shouldn't.
  10. Guess we were all wrong about the Aggies huh?
  11. Convenient how you ignored the fact that I stated TWICE that KU is the only BCS team to go unbeaten. You still haven't told me what other BCS team took care of their business...I'll wait. And you're telling me that if they beat #4 Missouri tomorrow and then Oklahoma, the only team to beat Missouri, that they're undeserving? Lay off of this stuff. http://www.chaoticconcepts.com/haterade.gif
  12. aTm laying the beat down on them.
  13. I absolutely LOVE how everyone continues to knock Kansas for their schedule. How many of these games did the Kansas players schedule? Or, better yet, name a BCS team that is ranked below them that had the chance to prove themselves and didn't blow it. UT- Losses to K-state and Oklahoma OU- Losses to Colorado and TECH Florida- Losses to Auburn, LSU and Georgia Ohio State- Lost to ILLINOIS Va Tech- LSU and BC BC- Losses to Florida State and Maryland KU is the only BCS school to simply do what you ask of any team when they take the field...beat the team placed in front of you. So, yes, millions have taken a look at Kansas' schedule to see who they beat...everyone.
  14. I'm not sure I understand your comment. Our wins have been against: Cameron Oklahoma State Indiana State No directional schools amongst the bunch.
  15. Not taking away anything from UTA but you can't make me believe that we lost to a better team. No excuses should be made because they beat us but I truly feel that when this season is over you will see NT in a better position comparitively.
  16. Pay attention to the sentence in bold. Ouch. North Texas' Jones can join school's winning team 10:55 PM CST on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 By BRETT VITO / Denton Record-Chronicle bvito@dentonrc.com DENTON – There might not be a more exclusive fraternity when it comes to coaches at North Texas than those few who have winning records. College Hall of Famer Hayden Fry is the only UNT football coach to reach the milestone since the mid-1960s, while Bill Blakeley is the lone UNT men's basketball coach since the 1930s to attain the mark. Johnny Jones could join them tonight when UNT faces UT-Arlington at Texas Hall. Jones stands at 89-89 with the Mean Green and is 104-105 overall, including a stint as the interim head coach at Memphis in 1999-2000. Colleges Blog: Colleges Schedule | Standings More: UNT | Colleges "I don't really get into records and looking at those kinds of things," Jones said. "What I look at is our team, if we are getting better and our record at the end of the season. If it's good, more often than not those other things will take care of themselves and you eventually get there." Jones has been on the fast track to the .500 mark ever since last season when UNT earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1988 and set a school record for wins, finishing 23-11. The Mean Green enters today's game against the Mavericks with a 3-0 record and a win over Oklahoma State that ranks among UNT's biggest nonconference victories in years. That surge has put Jones in position to surpass the .500 mark during the seventh year of his tenure at UNT, which has just one other current coach above the .500 mark, women's soccer coach John Hedlund. Jones was briefly over .500 at 15-14 after his first season at UNT in 2001-02 but went through an injury-plagued 7-21 campaign in his second year. That slump left Jones looking for a breakout season through three straight years in which UNT never finished over .500. UNT's players said it was easy to keep faith in Jones because of his background and character. Jones helped lead LSU to the Final Four both as a player and an assistant coach. "I knew because of the type of players coach Jones was bringing in and the way he carried himself on and off the court, that it was just a matter of time before he would get the program going," said senior forward Quincy Williams, who committed to UNT after Jones finished 13-15 in 2003-04. Williams was just one of the players who decided to play for UNT because of the bond they formed with Jones during the recruiting process that continued to grow once they arrived on campus. "I love playing for him," senior guard Ben Bell said. "Everyone on the team has a close connection with him." Bell is just one of the players who has helped UNT get on a roll the last two seasons and put Jones on the verge of joining Fry, Blakeley and a select few other Mean Green coaches in the .500 club. "Those are some really good coaches," Jones said. "It's great company to be in. I attribute it to the kids and assistant coaches who have been here while I have been here and what they have put into it. I am just happy to be a part of it."
  17. We lost to Troy 45-7 in what people called an embarassment (and it was). The almighty Blue Raiders of MUTS lost last night to Troy...wait for it.....45-7
  18. Because this board is chock full of quick fix pundits. "We need more posters!" "We need more yard signs!" "We need a new conference!" Kinda makes me think of a late night informercial. "New WAC not only gets rid of grease, blood, crayon stains and pesky pet dander...it also builds stadiums and draws massive home crowds with magic! You'd expect to pay hundreds of dollars for a product like this wouldn't you? Well, if you act today, you can get new WAC...and four free sponges...for not $100, not $50, not even $25....but the special introductory price of bankrupting your athletic department!!!! Call now, operators are standing by."
  19. THURSDAY: (11)USC at (6)Arizona State--PAC 10 title on the line. USC wins...in a close one. FRIDAY: Arkansas at (1)LSU--Tigers need to win out to reach MNC. LSU wins...by 10 (13)Texas at Texas A&M--Horns trying to keep pressure on OU for outside shot at Big 12 title. Texas wins...by 14 (only because it's at Kyle)...but OU beats OSU by 14 so the longhorn t-shirt purchases will fall for a week (19)Boise St. at (15)Hawaii--WAC title on the line. Boise State wins and BCS bigwigs everywhere rejoice....sadly
  20. Anyone else think this logo looks constipated?
  21. I think you know the answer to your own question. Here is how it works: When a non-traditional power loses to a traditional power this is taken as "proof that you can't beat a quality opponent" When a traditional power loses to a non-traditional power it is taken as "a let down in the midst of their tough schedule" or proof that the big name team "wasn't as good as everyone thought"
  22. Gee, ya think? Ya think maybe having religious fanatics run fully fueled jets full of American citizens into buildings symbolizing American commerce and strength (which just happened to also be full of American citizens) changed our spirit 'relative to catastrophic events'? Somewhere the comittee that hands out Rhode's Scholarships is weeping because they missed this guy. Got us ready? Like we were sitting back packing our luggage to go overseas to fight and we just couldn't get ourselves in the proper mindset? Like actors we were all milling about screaming "What's my motivation?" until one day the Japanese bombed American ships and soldiers allowing us to fully grasp the concept of the second World War? Amazing.
