  1. Wow. It's like someone is taking the words directly off of my keyboard from four months ago. Also, what about this part? I thought I remembered reading somewhere K-State coming to Denton in 2010.
  2. No I think he's right in that Felix Jones is a top 10 back AND that the drop off between he and McFadden is that great. McFadden is on another plane from the rest of the backs in the country.
  3. I think all of the stats in the world pale in comparison to the one intangible that all good to great QB's must possess...they don't end or stop drives because of their mistakes. DM does this, sorry to say. You can say the play calling is lacking, you can say his protection is lacking, you can even bring up blocked punts but the bottom line is he makes the throws. When he looks up and sees a double or triple covered receiver he makes the throws. This "the SMU and FAU games could have been ours" talk is asinine when you consider that all it would take is throwing the ball away when you have nothing. This is something they teach in high school. None of us expected 12-0, not if we were honest with ourselves. What we did expect, though, is someone under center who could manage a game and not be a part of the problem. I know, I know it's fundamentally unfair to heap this much expectation on the QB position alone...or is it? The TD offense is PREDICATED on having a QB that can distribute the ball (to people in same colored jerseys) and move the chains. In a spread offense if your RB isn't stellar you can survive. If your DE's aren't stellar you can survive. If your OL isn't stellar you can survive. They all just have to be serviceable because your QB is outstanding. Why do you think SLC quarterbacks when player of the year every year? I don't think all of the DM apologists understand what the rest of us are getting at. We're not saying DM is a horrible quarterback (well, I'm not at least). Far from it. We're not saying he's solely responsible for losses. Far from it. We're merely saying that, in his zeal to "make a play", he often forces the play and the results are disasterous.
  4. 1)Good crowd...on the alumni side. I heard someone say that Jub Jub mentioned there being something like 7,000 people in the parking lot during the game. I don't care what you say about it the parking lot needs to be shut down during the game. And don't whine that "then those people won't bother to show up at all" because I couldn't give a rat's ass. We don't invite them out for tailgating...we want them out there for tailgating AND A FOOTBALL GAME. If they're just there for tailgating I could do without the added participants in the foreplay who aren't there when it's time for the good stuff. 2)The defense still has a ways to go. I was glad to see Dom Green back on the field but it showed that this was his first real game action in over 8 months. Our DB's gave up FAR too much easy stuff across the middle. We still have no pass rush (hey Mendoza, it's called a blitz...this is D1 football! This aint intramurals!) 3)Meager was not a good QB last night. I know, I know, he didn't give up points or have punts blocked or commit penalties. True enough. What he did do is allow the defense to take half of their defensive assignments and throw them away. They KNEW by midway through the second quarter that he could not hurt them deep. Well, what did that leave them to do? Exactly what I knew they would do if they watched ANY film. Sit back and try to jump the out route. We are damn lucky they didn't get ahold of one of them. When you run an offense predicated on taking what the defense gives you and then have zero ability to put it over the top when that is what they beg you to do then you will lose. I have come to realize from watching our game against SMU and listening to SMU's games against Tech, Ark State and now TCU that their secondary is just that bad! 601 yards is a helluva stat line but only thing that matters in the end is that zero that still hangs in the win column. I know he didn't have the world's best protection but if you'll go back and look at his interceptions they were into double and triple coverage. At first I commented around me "that's just Danny trying to make a play." Then I realized that it was just Danny forcing it. When I judge a quarterback I realize that he can do one of three things. He can win a game for you (these QB's are rare). He can manage the game and play within the system (these are your good to great QB's). Or, he can do what no QB should ever do, he can lose a game for you. Am I saying Danny is solely responsible for the last two losses? No. Am I saying that as our field general he cannot and should not force things leading to extra possessions for the opposition? You're damn right I am.
  5. Well, I'm off to Denton to hang out at the mecca. If you're in town and get bored feel free to stop by tonight.
  6. For the love of God, can someone please, pretty please find the Real Lonnie Finch and replace this clown?
  7. Ahhh come on Eric. If I don't make it sound like a Herculian feat to feed these people it doesn't have the same pizazz. And you know how I love pizazz.
  8. Here ya go...I like the idea
  9. If you have a blue lot pass you can't use it to get into orange. That is strictly paid parking. Also, pretty much the entire blue lot is spoken for so get there early. I will be there early (Friday). North Texas home games...makes the other 8 months of the year bearable.
  10. If Eric (Sound_Man) and I were to purchase food to have a large collective meal at the game would you be interested? We were thinking about doing ribs, beans, potato salad...maybe chips. The cost would be about $5 a head. Your drinks/beer/etc would be on you. Know that if you vote "yes" you are telling us to sit out there Friday night to set up the smoker, buy the food, and go through a pretty good deal of effort. No saying "yes" because ribs sound yummy (don't they though) and then failing to come through monetarily. I can promise you that this will be a one-time deal if we get burned on it. If we get enough DEFINITE yes'es we'll make it happen.
  11. If I can swing it would it be worth taking Friday night off? For about the last 3-4 years I have camped out at Fouts the Friday before the first home game but the turnout has dwindled from year to year. So, any interest in a pre-game sleepover? (don't take the term "sleepover" the wrong way...quoner, jaydub)
  12. Your PM's are either turned off or something goofy is going on with them cuz I can't send one to you. In response to your PM though, I'm definitely up for keeping everyone together. I still have to figure out where to set up. We all have blue passes and I need to determine where to draw power from. I'd be willing to pay the $10 to set up in the orange lot to use the light pole again if we can't find something. Do you still have that generator by chance if we can't find a power source? As far as food I'd almost assume we keep it low key and cook enough for our core 20-30 with a tip jar or something to that effect.
  13. In all honesty I'll take the word of those who are up close and personal over a website that updates weekly at best. Add to that that Dom was running with the first team in practice and I'd say it's a a good bet.
  14. Is nobody gonna call him out on these blatant lies?! Dodge2007? FakeAssLonnieFinch? Bueller? Anyone?
  15. From what I understand it was not a matter of "holding back" but rather a bit of...how shall I say..."coming to an accord" that led to it.
  16. And if you do get admitted to a BCS conference it looks like this; Former Sun Belt: "Look, now we're winning in a BCS conference." Media: Either "That league is down this year" or "Yeah but you don't have the established history of winning that the other teams in your conference do"
  17. It is undeniable that this conference has moved forward in the years since we joined the league. Games that would have been sure losses (and probable blowouts) have become games that we, as a league, are competing in. Every team we play from here on out will be a test. So, why the optimism Emmitt? First, the SBC has no juggernaut. If people will recall, even when we won 26 straight, we didn't blow our conference brethren out. Same can be said of the "heavyweights" in our conference today. Troy has an impressive win against Okie Light. FAU has an impressive win against Minnesota. Arkansas State beat down a SMU squad that we lost to. MUTS hung almost half a hundred on Louisville. On first look it would appear that these are 4 sure losses. But let's look below the surface. In losing to Troy Okie Light turned the ball over 5 times. In losing to FAU Minnesota turned the ball over 7 times to FAU's zero. In losing to Arkansas State SMU turned the ball over 3 times...compared to our turning the ball over 4 times to SMU's 2. And how many of our penalties kept their drives alive? MUTS put up 42 on Louisville and actually lost the turnover battle 4 to 1. That same Louisville team turned around and lost to Kentucky. Yes, Kentucky is an SEC team and boasts a 3-0 record...with the other two wins coming against monoliths Kent St and E. Kentucky. And MUTS? They shoulda been blown out by FAU and got drubbed 44-0 by LSU. What am I trying to say? That we are vastly superior to these teams at 0-2 and that I don't think any of them can play? No. What I AM saying though is that with an offense that is all of 2 games old at North Texas and that will get better by the week we can win any game left on our schedule (save maybe Ark) if we can take care of the football and eliminate giving away yardage on penalties. Oh Emmitt, you are soooooo naive though...we don't have a defense, remember? Well, I have it on good authority (from several sources) that the days of the cover 1 and basic defensive game plans are over. Additionally I am told that Dom Green WILL start on Saturday. Further, I don't put all of the blame at the feet of our defense for our record. Just how well did the university of Miami's defense do against OU? And if my eyes didn't fail me our defense got us key stops when we were mounting a comeback against SMU. In fact, didn't they force an interception to give us the ball back tied 31-31 at midfield? I believe it was a subsequent INT by us that put the ball back in the hands of SMU and put our tired defense right back on the field. Bottom line...I think Todge knows that winning the games on the pocket schedule denoted with an asterisk is what really matters. And I also think I should decide now whether I want a room with our without a balcony. Go Mean Green!!
  18. It's been tried. We were on TV versus ULL for a basketball game. People took the white shirts that were handed out and either turned around and took them back to their dorms or put them in their seat next to them at the game. Still a lot of that putrid, disgusting, vile burnt orange in the stands.
  19. So this begs the question, have we been passed by in this conference? I don't think so b/c I think the offense will keep us above water but this might be a "rebuilding" year.
  20. I noticed something. Washington has a big ole track around their field too. I know the angle of the stands makes it vastly superior to Fouts but look at this end zone!!! http://football.ballparks.com/NCAA/Pac10/W...ngton/index.htm
