  1. Even if our quarterback is below average this season, it doesn't make Derek Thompson's career any better than it was, which was average. Average is not fun (although I will happily take it, if it comes attached to a Bowl victory.) But I am excited about the possibility of our new quarterback: Anyone But Derek Thompson, because the possibility for above average quarterback play exists now.
  2. Isn't it some kind of violation for Coach Patrick to make a comment like that?
  3. This is a BS argument. No one forced DT to accept the scholarship. He could go start his own football team and charge people whatever he wanted to see him play, but he chose instead to come to UNT and play under the NCAA rules. The only reason I ever gave a damn about Derek Thompson was because he was the QB at MY school. He benefitted greatly from choosing to play at UNT and I am offended he is suing now. Ultimately, people root for the schools, not the players. And the players should not be compensated much beyond what they currently get because they are all replaceable. And after they are all replaced with new recruiting classes I will continue to root and spend money supporting THE SCHOOL. How much is Derek Thompson's labor as a football player really worth without North Texas? The free market says Nothing, that's why he is teaching high school and not playing professional football.
  4. Can I sue Derek Thompson for four years of mediocre quarterback play?
  5. ...and the P5 is controlled by reptilian alien central bankers who want to destroy lower-level FBS football so they can install a one world government and force all citizens to watch a Hunger Games-themed competition with tributes from the AAC, C-USA, MAC, MWC and Sun Belt that will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network.
  6. First of all, if there are more scholarships available, the recruiting services will just rank more players: because heaven forbid we sign a kid who isn't ranked by a website employing minimum wage talent evaluators/writers who got cut from their 7th grade B team. Also, do you know how many kids play high school football in this country? Giving P5 scholarships to 1000 more kids across the country won't make a significant dent in the talent level we can acquire. Tons of kids have the talent to play high level college football and never get the opportunity. Look at an NFL roster, sure there are guys from Alabama or Texas but a similar amount are from less prestigious programs. For example, right now the Dallas Cowboys have THREE guys on their roster from Northern Illinois. If the P5 schools each had 15 more scholarships, do you know where those three Dallas Cowboys would have played college football: still Northern Illiniois! Remember why the scholarship limit was put in place? Title 9. If they add scholarships for men, they have to do it for women, too. Women's sports lose $. You think these schools want to add more of these new, more expensive "full cost of attendance" scholarships for non-revenue sports? Ultimately, college football is a business and increasing from 85 to 100 scholarships DOES NOT make these schools more money so they aren't going to do it.
  7. Uh... This is how it already is and I like our chances in Game 1 this year.
  8. Psst... There are still only 11 players on each side of the ball when it is snapped. Also, the scholarship limit was 105 during the Hayden Fry-era and he still had some fantastic teams. If they increased the scholarship limit the market would change, I could see more highly-talented sophomores and juniors from P5 schools want to transfer to places like UNT for more playing time. The sky is not falling, Apogee is not crumbling, Rick Villareal is not shaving his mustache. We will be ok no matter what the P5 does.
  9. Maybe this is what happened with Sed and Loving at Wal-Mart. They tried to pay for the TV's but Wal-Mart's system was down.
  10. I got an email solicitation to purchase additional tickets yesterday and when I went to do it I kept getting error messages. I called and was also told the system was down. If someone is ready to buy, you have to be able to take their money, especially if you are actively calling on them for them to buy. I was disappointed.
  11. Mac loses credibility if he doesn't kick them off the team. Abbé should have been kicked off the team, too. Anyone who gets multiple DWI/DUI is a thug in my eyes. There are consequences for breaking rules and laws. Even for 20 year olds. If Mac putting winning games above doing the right thing then shame on him.
  12. Eric Decker: 6-3; Demaryius Thomas: 6-3; Brandon Stokley: 6-0.
  13. Comparing a walk-on running back who has been impressive in spring drills to a player who won a national rushing championship is a little silly. Evans might be quicker than our 2nd and 3rd string linebackers, but is he gonna rush for more than 200 yards against Colorado? Also, James Mitchell averaged 5.2 yards a carry for his career and rushed for more than 100 yards in his only start. In my opinion, Mitchell was better than Byrd (and none of these current guys could beat out Byrd), he just didn't get on the field much because he always had a national rushing champion in front of him. I don't remember much about Moore except that he was a pretty hyped recruit for the Dickey-era who never made much of an on-field contribution. Our 2004 running backs were way better and deeper than what we have now. If you wanted to make the argument that our current offensive line is our best ever, I might agree with you.
  14. Someday UNT will have an all-conference level QB (maybe even just 3rd team) and we will all laugh about the above statement being true at one time.
  15. Having had three ACL surgeries myself, I can tell you we are expecting a lot to expect Pegram to be 100% by Fall. Likely he will be 85-90%. I know some athletes come back within six months of that injury, but unless they are Adrian Peterson and shooting up gallons of HGH they are not near their old self until 18 months out from surgery. I expect a rotation of Jimmerson/Lewis/Ivery. Lewis is my pick for breakout player of 2014.
  16. I would much rather watch almost any game at home than go to it. I control the event at home. I can DVR it and I can watch it in two hours. I can press pause and go in the backyard and pitch batting practice to my kids. I don't have to spend an hour driving there and an hour back. UNT games are an exception because I went to school there and have so much nostalgia for Denton and have an ownership in the product more than any pro team I root for. But I see attendance at any live event going down, especially as the population ages.
  17. Notice that Florence did not comment on the kid's character, only his ability and his need to make good decisions. Usually if a kid is a good kid that is the first thing his high school coach will say about him... I like that we are taking a chance on this kid.
  18. How many football teams will this dangerous plant have to destroy before our country takes it seriously?
  19. Parker and Simon had a recruiting advantage over later UNT coaches in that they could immediately play D1 transfers without them sitting out a year. We will see how UTSA does now that they have to play by the same transfer rules as everyone else.
  20. Is "volume" not a reference to the amount of weight being lifted?
  21. The 2010 class had just one winning season and never won a conference championship. If I could choose which career I could have as a college player, I would take the career of the class of 2000 over the career of the 2010 class.
  22. Actually, I counted 7 all conference players from Dickey's 2000 class that included Brandon Kennedy. So I would give the nod to 2000, but it is close.
  23. Wow! Dodge's 2010 class featured six all-conference players and another player who made the NFL. That was as good a class as I have ever seen in my almost 20 years following the program.
  24. High school coaches understand that only the elite of the elite recruits would interest Texas or A&M, but they all think they have 3-4 kids every year that UNT should be recruiting.
  25. This has qualifying issue written all over it. If he were hurt enough to cause a greyshirt he probably wouldn't be the leading scorer on his basketball team right now. Late qualifiers are a great way for us to acquire talent.
