  1. 100% Yes! Bring Johnny Football to Denton.
  2. Lots of stuff sucks until it suddenly doesn't anymore.
  3. Interesting read. If I had it to do over again I would still offer 8 of those 11 a scholarship. Pretty good % of usable players in the bunch above.
  4. New coach shouldn't be stuck with old coach's recruits. Coaching stability should be a deciding factor for kids that make early commitments.
  5. 3.0? Who cares? I would rather have 2.0 if it came with a bowl team. Coffee is for closers, McCarney!
  6. A higher % of 3* recruits become impact players than 2* recruits. Also kids with multiple D1 offers tend to outperform those with none. Why do you consider it a sin to want UNT to pull in higher rated recruits?
  7. I have seen Whitfield in person. That is why I doubt his listed height. I do, however, usually trust the recruiting sites about height/weight. I do not trust a listed high school 40 time, which are almost always inaccurate. I understand you want to replace the eagle statue on the field at Apogee with one of Whitfield because he made 2nd team All Sun Belt as a redshirt freshman. I believe Whitifield can be solid contributor on a winning team, but I would like to see us recruit players better than him..
  8. Hilbert Jackson is better on the outside all alone in one-on-one than Whitfield. Whitfield would be better utilized covering smaller slot receivers.
  9. Since when is 5'9 bigger than 5'10? And if Whitfield is actually 5'9 then Brandon Kennedy was 6'0.
  10. Well excuse me for wanting to upgrade our talent level. I like Whitfield and want him on the field in a position he can best succeed. While he made some plays, that was also a function of how often he got picked on. He is undersized and that was exploited by some bigger receivers. I would rather see Whitfield covering guys in the slot vs. all alone on an island on the outside. We can win CUSA with Whitfield as our 3rd cb. I like him, I would just like to have some better options in front of him.
  11. This is the kind of talent I expect McCarney to pull in. Hopefully this kid can push Whitfield into a nickel or dimeback position, where he will be great. Our secondary and LB are looking solid. Now if we can just sign or develop some DL we will be bowling.
  12. I blame our coaching staff for this. DT is the most difficult position to acquire good players. It is a particular weakness of this team. We had a Big 12-talent DT on our roster and we let him get away. It is our coaches jobs to motivate these guys and turn them into players. Why could the JC coaches motivate him and McCarney (who is supposed to be a DL guru (like Dodge was supposed to be a QB guru?)) could not? Having Brooks and a better DL could have easily made us bowl eligible this season. Massive failure by McCarney. Very disappointed in him about this. It is one thing if Brooks was an unsalvageable waste of a human. But to see the kid leave UNT and become a JC All-American and sign with Baylor while we use duct tape and super glue to try and put together a DL is all on McCarney.
  13. My sleeper for next year is McDorman. The kid looks like a D1 DT. We haven't had many of those. He was an absolute beast in hs. At that level, he reminded me of Dusty Dvorchek. .
  14. As long as Jimmer keeps breaking those tackles I don't care if he steals the nuclear codes. Warner keeps getting hurt, Coach Mac should make an example of him and kick him off the team. Haha.
  15. Mack does get the No. 1 QB recruit every year (or darn close to it). I admit sometimes I think UT recruiting is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Is he the No. 1 recruit who committs to UT or is he the No. 1 recruit BECAUSE he is being recruited by UT? Mack can only sign 1 or 2 QBs a year, plenty of good ones, especially those who are not NFL prototypes, slip through the cracks (like Manziel or Chase Daniel). My biggest problem is why can't UNT ever find and develop one of these guys?
  16. Simms was the No. 1 recruit in the nation who turned into a 3rd round draft pick. While his college career did not measure up to Young, McCoy or even Applewhite (a Mackovic recruit) he still had a college career better than any UNT QB ever other than maybe Steve Ramsey.
  17. Do you hold that against him? Shouldn't a great coach recruit backups who can step in and shine?
  18. What does that have to do with college football? How many of those played for a national title? Colt would have won one too if he hadn't got hurt.
  19. Yeah... Mack Brown sucks at finding QBs. He only landed Chris Simms, Vince Young and Colt McCoy.
  20. How is a guy who can't beat out Derek Thompson going to go to another FBS program and play for a year?
  21. First an off-field incident. Then he gets kicked off team for missing a meeting. If he was expendable at Kansas, which is not exactly USC, why would we want to build our team around him? It's not like he was a 5 star player. He is a 3 star player. Wy not find another 3 star player with less baggage?
  22. Yes, I also miss Mean Joe Greene and Brandon Kennedy. Scott Hall was probably the best QB in UNT history!
  23. You guys should sign up for CrossFit. It is awesome. If Coach Wintrich is working, he should be working with Mean Green athletes.
