  1. Really excited about English, but not fair to compare him to Booger. Booger was an All-American. Would be absolutely delighted if English became All-CUSA.
  2. I guess English redshirted this year at KState? I couldn't find any stats on him this year. If I were him I would go JUCO unless that hardship waiver is a slam dunk done deal. You only get to play 4 seasons over 5 years. Why waste two redshirting AND transferring? North Texas or SMU would still be there for him next year. I also can't believe Kincaide isn't considering FCS where he could play immediately and get two seasons in instead of FBS where he will have to sit and then get in only 1 year.
  3. Beggars can't be choosers but it's not like this guy is Jeff Driskel. He's a 3rd string QB with four years of rust. I will trust in Littrell and also hope he still signs a HS QB this class.
  4. We already experimented with implementing the offense that worked best in TX high schools (Dodge). That failed, so now let's stick with running an offense that is PROVEN to work in college (Littrell).
  5. What happened to Sid Moore this season? Did he have season-ending injury? He barely played. I tried to Google it but couldn't find anything.
  6. After watching the film and looking at the stats, I'm wondering if maybe our plan is to move him to defense? Zac Whitfield? Although I'm guessing with this guy's size he would be a LB or Safety. Also, his high school stats look very similar to what Jimmerson's stats looked like at Desoto and that guy had a good career here in my opinion.
  7. I'm not saying to hire a PROJECT COORDINATOR. We don't need another secretary. I want to hire a Director of Recruiting to go out, make calls and be a bad a*s. We need someone, probably with a football background (recent college player or high school coach looking to move up) to go out every day and build relationships with high school players, parents, coaches and administrators. That should be the overwhelming majority of their job. To get someone who could do this successfully, you would need to pay $75k to $100k a year. I guarantee you that is what SMU and Houston are paying their guys and way less than the P5's pay. I would also suggest some form of deferred compensation, such as $X bonus if a player you recruited is on the conference All-freshman team and another bonus if your recruit makes first or second team all-conference. The deferred compensation can also be used as a golden handcuff to keep a successful recruiter as the bonus is only paid out if you are still on staff at North Texas, etc. There are a million ways to structure it, but bottom line is we need to incentivize and reward successful recruiting.
  8. Houston has a Director of Recruiting, an Assistant Director of Recruiting and a Director of High School relations. All we have is a WR coach/Recruiting Coordinator. That is ridiculous! We need someone out making calls on high schools full-time. He could make 3 solid calls a day: morning athletic period at one school, lunch at another then afternoon athletic period at a third school. You could get someone real good to do this for $100k. If we're cheap, we could probably get by with $75k. Would be a great entry level job for a GA who needs promoting or a good job for a high school coach looking to move into college. It is a sin against our natural recruiting resources that we don't have someone doing this for the football program.
  9. 85% of the listening audience changed the channel as soon as they found out who he was anyway. And if you are just gonna coachspeak like your answers above why even do they interview? If you have the guy on, and you are familiar with the program like Jub is, why not ask good questions? And I understand the general DFW sports fan would be curious why the heck anyone would take this job so I didn't mind that one. Looking forward to hearing SL go deep at 12:30. Yes, the verbal pauses were very heavy. "You know". Part of being new. You can tell he is a good communicator. I'm sure he will overcome that as he gets used to being the primary voice of the program to the media.
  10. Questions were pretty weak from Musers. I want to hear his thoughts on addressing QB position. Has he watched our film? What are his impressions of the talent on the current roster? How close is he to announcing his staff. Hopefully he will address these at 12:30.
  11. I remember pulling over to the side of the road while making sales calls to listen to the Musers interview Dodge when he got hired. Must have been 8 am or 9 am. Better time slot, but everyone in DFW already knew who Dodge was. No one knows Littrell YET.
  12. OU's Trevor Knight just makes sense. Of course, Littrell may not want to cross Stoops and take him as Knight is the backup to Mayfield for next season and backup QB is valuable player on team. But OU also has Cody Thomas, Connor McGinness and a 4-star hs QB recruited by Lincoln Riley arriving next season. Does Knight wanna be a backup on a national contender or a starter on a rebuilding team? That's a tough question, but he's already gotten to be a backup on a national contender for three years. You have one more season before you have to go get a real job, don't you want to play?
  13. Littrell was always first choice.
  14. It's funny to compare two old school football coaches: Darrell Dickey and Dan McCarney. Both were brought up in and utilized ground game ball control offenses as coaches. But Dickey was able to evolve and change with the game and has OC'd a team into 6,000 yards of offense this season while grooming one of the top QBs in the country. McCarney wouldn't change his philosophy and got his rear fired half way through the season. Dickey is now a candidate for a head coaching job and McCarney will never get a chance to be anything more than a position coach.
  15. When it comes to recruiting the QB position, I'm betting SL uses the old Navy Seal philosophy, "Two is one and one is none". None of our current QBs are FBS material so we need to pull two this first class. There is no reason a recruiter like SL can't pull in a solid grad transfer from a P5 AND a 3* high schooler with multiple G5 and low P5 offers. PS: I love listening to the radio broadcasts of our games because you can read between the lines of some of the things Dave Barnett insinuates. Like how he inferred that Damarcus Smith isn't mature enough to be the week to week starting QB of this team. I also enjoyed Barnett's inability to hide his contempt for Carlos Harris as a person during the broadcasts.
  16. Almost every school Littrell has been at has fewer resources than its peers. Kansas/TX Tech vs rest of Big 12. Indiana vs. rest of Big 10. Even Arizona and UNC have their challenges. The guy's job is to recruit football players and coach football players. Ultimately it is not about the budget. It is about football.
  17. I know this is difficult for us UNT fans to believe, but meaningful football is still being played THIS SEASON. UNC is in the hunt for the national title and is playing the No. 1 team in the country for the ACC championship in five days. They don't give a damn right now what Littrell does AFTER this season.
  18. Somebody needs to lock Craig James in an electrical closet with his son and nine dead hookers.
  19. I am betting the "source close to Littrell" is Littrell's agent. I am f'ing pumped about this hire!!! It is a new day. Can't wait to watch an exciting brand of football!
  20. If Smatresk didn't want RV doing athletic director things then why wouldn't he just fire his arse?
  21. I'm guessing we have a gentleman's agreement with Littrell already in place and his hire will be formally announced as soon as UNC is eliminated from playoff consideration. If you have a chance to win a national title you pause everything else until you see that through. I'm pretty confident Littrell has been our top choice for a long time. Another week isn't going to hurt us.
  22. It is going to be Littrell and it is going to be amazing!
  23. I understand we want boots on the ground recruiting, but a week is nothing when it comes to landing the best available candidate. This class is going to be strung together at the last minute anyways and there is still PLENTY of time to do that.
  24. If it was going to be Meacham, in my opinion, it would have been FORMALLY announced yesterday. Vito’s blog predicting the Meacham hire was conjecture based on the tweet from Tony Johnson’s dad, which I know was bad information. The recruiting contact period just opened up again. If Meacham was going to be the guy they would have announced the hire yesterday, thrown some car keys at him, told him to round up his coaching staff and show his face in as many DFW high schools as possible today Meacham’s season is over. His new job would be way more important than getting TCU ready for some dead-end bowl game. In my semi-informed opinion, the only reason the hire hasn’t been announced yet is because the future coach is still playing a game that has national championship ramifications.
  25. Meacham met with UNT officials today. Everyone got excited and a game of telephone got started. Meacham could end up being the guy, but it is not a done deal yet.
