  1. One more thing I forgot ......we also struggle against the press! If I was Memphis, I would press the entire game.
  2. Let me preface this by saying I am glad that we have so much new interest in the team. This board was quiet all season compared to this last week. Which proves one point earlier I made about our ATTENDANCE PROBLEMS.......WIN and KEEP WINNING and everything else will take care of itself. This is the first year we have made it out of the first round of the Sun Belt Tournament with Johnny Jones and many of us (including me) did not have a lot of confidence going into the Sun Belt Tournament. I am glad to say Coach Jones and the team proved me wrong. The season is already a success. The rest is just gravy. This is the most athletic team we have ever had and the most fun to watch. Having said that............. For those of you that may not have followed the team that closely this year, here are a few things you need to know: 1. The strength of this team is the offense (29th in scoring) with their three pointers (77th - 37%) and fast break. They will push the ball a lot. This team lives and dies with transition quick scores and the three pointer. 2. The defense is better than adequate for the Sun Belt and for most of this years competition but we played a very weak schedule. We are a great rebounding team and this defense will be SEVERELY tested against Memphis. 3. This team is frustrating to watch in a half court offense and will look lost at times trying to set up a good shot. If Memphis keeps us in a half court game the outcome will not be pretty. We can also get out of control in the open court and make some really frustrating turnovers but that's what happens when you push it as much as they do. 4. If this team does not come out shooting hot and defending well, this game will be over early. We HAVE to hit our three point shots to have any chance against Memphis and we will have to out run them as well which is a tall order but not impossible since that is their game as well. I would love to see us work it inside out more than we have in the past but I can always dream. 5. Free Throws - 65.5% (273rd) - We are awful. It will drive you crazy to watch us at the charity stripe especially if the games come down to free throws. Those are just a few points and I know many others will chime in as well. I think the spread of 18 points is about right. I watched Memphis against Houston and even though I was not blown away by their team we will have to play a near perfect game to come away with a win. For those new to Mean Green Hoops, Welcome! No matter what the outcome in the tournament, we hope you follow the team closer in the the coming years. GMG! Beat Memphis!
  3. Where were all of these people for the Sun Belt tournament????
  4. Here is the official web site for the tournament in New Orleans: REMINDER: DO NOT BUY YOUR TICKETS THRU THIS SITE! BUY THEM FROM THE UNT ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT! Official NCAA New Orleans 1st/2nd Round Host Web Site GMG!

  6. It might just happen.......UNT vs Ohio State...............my enitre family (3 generations) of Buckeye grads vs. me! GMG!
  7. I hope you are right but remember RPI is not the only thing the committee looks at. If all they went on was RPI they wouldn't need a committee.
  8. The small town/big town thing means nothing. I am from Richardson with four high schools and have always bled UNT green and I know numerous diehard alumni who are from big cities that are the same way.
  9. It is really embarrasing to the conference to have 400 people show up for a title game, because the home team was KO'ed in the first round. It would not have mattered this year, because NT and Ark St were both lower seeds. But, the #1 seeds are getting to the title games in just about every other conference tourney. For the few of us that actually attended the Sun Belt Tournament when was in Denton two years ago it was just as embarrasing. One - our mens and women teams were both knocked out early and Two - The community, students and UNT fans did a HORRIBLE job attending the rest of the tournament. I think the Final was Denver and one of the Florida schools and the attnedance was really poor. We have no room to complain about any other host of a tournament that doesn't have good attendance.
  10. I know what it won't be........... The Four Corners!
  11. At least we would have one fan there......right CMJ? Yes.....UCLA in Sacramento.........that could (B)ruin our tourney giddiness....."ROCK ME!"
  12. Congrats To Coach Jones and the team. I am glad Coach Jones proved me wrong at the end of the season. This team sucked it up and won 3 games away from the Super Pit.....I never thought that would happen. Also thanks to MTSU for beating South Alabama! GMG! Give whoever we play hell in the Dance!!!!!
  13. I never thought I would say this but I think we match up better with Western Kentucky. We really dodged a bullet not having to play South Alabama. This team needs to play SMARTER than they have all year to win tomorrow. GMG!
  14. I'm just glad we have green seats now.....it looks better when they are empty I too wonder where all of the students who attended the football games are when basketball season rolls around. I know football is king but if we only had half of those students the Pit woul be rocking! I think the only thing that will get more students to come is if we win the Sun Belt Tournament this year and make it to the dance and win at least one game. I know........keep dreaming but this was the same process we went through with football from 1995 - 2002. We went to a bowl game with national exposure and all of sudden students realized we had a football team...a good one.....the year we beat Cinn in the NO Bowl...all of a suddne fans came out of the woodwoork! One thing that will make us happy with attendance for next year....we need to go on at least a 5 game WINNING streak!!!
  15. NAIA schools do not count in the RPI and Sagrin rankings who both have us at 15-10. THAT is our real record. RANK Sagrin - #169 RPI - #165 RPI Rankings Sagrin Rankings WE DEFINE MEDIOCRITY! It's time for a coaching change. This is unacceptable. If you want to make some nice scratch tonight, take the Cajuns +1 and laugh all the way to the bank. UNT on the road is a joke. Don't talk to me about winning at Western Kentucky either. They are WAY down this year as is Charlotte. "UNT Basketball - Another reason why we need a baseball team!"
  16. I am a big believer in looking at your record on the road. One reason is because the post season is not played at home (Even when it is we were thumped in the first round two years ago). After a pathetic attendance from UNT fans and the City of Denton you can forget about the Sun Belt tourney ever coming back to Denton. UNT's road record the last three years: 2006-2007 - 1-7 (2 more road games to play) 2005-2006 - 2-7 2004-2005 - 3-7 This is unacceptable. I understand we lost some close games but a loss is a loss. Good teams find a way to win those games If we were winning half of our road games I would feel a lot better about this season. While our overall record is better than it has been in the past, I don't feel any better about our chances in the tournament.
  17. Who are all of those people in red making a lot of noise? oh that's right........................students
  18. Rick, It is quite perplexing. Yes there were more students at the games in the late 80's and early 90's but we still had some of the same problems. Where are all the students that attend the football games? Are they really football only fans? I understand this is Texas but watching hoops at the Super Pit should be THE place to be from November through February as a student.
  19. Emmitt......I hear you (no pun intended) . You and Zeke and several others are the exception to the rule. I still yell a lot as well but I am sure you understand my point. When I was a student I was hoarse after every basketball and football game.
  20. 3000-5000 STUDENTS are what is really needed.
  21. I agree with most of the assesments. Great game but losing that lead was unacceptable. When we began milking the clock it looked as though the team were told to just hold it and jack up a shot right before the buzzer. We needed to keep hammering it inside once we were under 15 seconds and play the inside out approach. Kudos to the Pit Crew! They were great! The attendance numbers were good but not the right type of fans. I know we can't be too picky and are lucky to have the turnout but we need STUDENTS at the game! I love that the youth basketball teams get to come to the game but they along with most of the other non-students just aren't into the game that much. I know I am beating a dead horse here but if we could ever get 200-500 more students to come to the game and act like the pit crew, this place would be the toughest place to play in the Belt. STUDENTS make the college, athletic, atmoshere electric, not the alumni and locals. Good win.....need to keep the momentum going.
  22. I guess a few of my statements were not clear enough. Sure winning in the regular season is important and no one here would disagree. All I am saying is we have watched this song and dance for many years, not just with JJ. We need to get this thing to the next level. It's time. Yes of course you need to win games to get to first and second in the division and that should be expected now with the talent we have. We need to finish strong and continue strong in the conf. tourney for this season to be a success. Anything else is unacceptable.
  23. None of these wins mean anything in the big picture. This team and JJ need to be measured ultimately in the conference tournament which has been a COMPLETE DISASTER in the past. This team has still not convinced me that it has what it takes to finish the season strong, which is what has been lacking in the JJ era. There is no reason we should not finish first or second in the division and win at least two games in the tournament. This is my measurement of a successful season. See everyone next Saturday vs the Hilltoppers! GMG!
