  1. But would you keep the AAC name, or adopt the PAC moniker? PAC: Pan-American Conference? The map could use Air Force and Colorado State to fill the gap,
  2. UTSA football was almost undefeated in 2021 and was ranked as high as #15 in the nation. They've won back to back conference championships, and have been ranked in the top 25 for the past 2 years, and they pull 30K people to their games. Let's give them credit, they've created a lot of buzz around the brand very quickly. More evidence that winning builds brands a LOT faster than facilities do.
  3. Less than 24 hours . . . "Um, I mean, we're headed to the PAC! Again!"
  4. We were already in the 1987 Southland Conference. Do we need to do this again? A regional conference is a good play IF the school always wants to have a regional reputation. If the Powers That Be in the school want a national rep, then we have to be in a national athletic conference.
  5. Probably the only way for the MW teams to avoid that $34M payout to join the PACx in 2024
  6. Because schools are judged by the schools they choose to play. UNT will never elevate itself if it keeps playing SFA, Tarleton, Abilene Christian, Houston Baptist and the like.
  7. Sorry, I refuse to be excited about Tarleton, North Alabama, etc.
  8. Stolen from r/CFB, but I find this amusing ==== to whom it may concern, the pac-12 is excited to extend you an invitation to join our thriving league! as i’m sure you’re already aware, the pac-10 has a rich, century-long history as the west coast’s premier conference. each of our nine member universities boast some of the world’s most prestigious athletic and academic programs; and, recognizing that your programs share similar acclaim, we’d be thrilled to welcome you to the pac-7. the future of our conference is as bright as ever. last time around, the pac-6 negotiated one of the biggest tv deals in college sports, and our team is following that up by negotiating a very promising deal with apple tv+. in addition to netting $20 million per school annually, student-athletes at our pac-5 member universities will receive one extra free gigabyte of icloud! we’re especially thrilled to see this part of the deal help our schools recruit athletes into our pac-4 programs. i look forward to hearing back from you, and welcoming you into the pacific-2-- truly a conference of champions. regards, * george kliavkoff * commissioner of the pac-1 conference
  9. Doesn't the PAC owe Comcast something like 50 million dollars due to overpayments? It might be better to bankrupt the conference and shut it down. Or SMU can pay that out of petty cash to get in. SMU is good at petty.
  10. Word on Twitter is that the Big Meeting to share the media deal with the PAC university bigwigs was a bust, and that there is no media deal. Negotiation as ongoing and there will be something Real Soon Now. Ya gotta think anyone with a parachute is pulling it now.
  11. At this point, -I- am rooting for SMU to leave also, if only to clear up this forum.
  12. I'm assuming that UNT is working that phone as well. Sure, the PAC is in trouble but a struggling P5 conference has to pay better than any G5.
  13. I know many of you here are season ticket holders. I am not, but I just bought 4 tickets to the Cal game. I've invited 3 friends, all of whom attended UNT and all of whom haven't been to a UNT football game this century. Hopefully this will peak their interest. If not, I'm only out $150 and I get to see some old friends. A bargain in these inflationary times.
  14. It is trademarked (https://trademarks.justia.com/854/22/mean-green-85422251.html) and must be defended, or UNT could lose the right to the phrase.
  15. CU Board of Regents officially accepts invite to move to Big12 conference.
  16. If this happens, CU will have to schedule some different OOC games. Opportunity for UNT maybe? 2025 @ Houston 2026 vs Houston 2027 vs Kansas State 2028 @ Kansas State 2036 @ Oklahoma State 2037 vs Oklahoma State
  17. I think Colorado's record over the past decade proves that NAMES, not athletic accomplishments, determine who the media powers are interested in. And that's what drives conference invites.
  18. I'm not certain that adding North Alabama (ASUN) and San Jose State (MW) as OOC opponents helps move the needle any.
  19. Just as SMU runs away from UNT, A&M runs from UT. Obviously the AAC is the Aggies' next home . . .
  20. 10 years of decent football in over a century isn't a capital-H History. North Texas has always meant bad football and small crowds. -That- is the part that needs to change. First the consistent wins, then the crowds come. Our last conference championship was almost 20 years ago. Tell me why current students would be passionate about football?
