  1. I know I'm probably nipping at the green Kool Aid but I really think '08 is when we will see noticeable improvement in Mean Green Football. Once we get our class signed in Feb., get some of them as well as our returning players through spring practice, and finally fall practice, the 2008 version of Dodgeball will show us all what (some) of us have been patiently waiting for. *OSL takes another long draw from the tall glass of Kool Aid* I also believe JJ and his troops will have an entertaining post season for us all. Happy The Remaining 364 Days of 2008 everyone! BTW, my football predictions were intentionally vague. Let's see how signing goes and spring practice as well.
  2. There are a couple of BCS teams that Mizzou could have replaced. How'd that flamebroiled hog taste?
  3. Too late for this year, only 364 days to go. Oh well, Happy 2009 everyone!
  4. This reminds me of one of my favorite Hayden Fry quotes concerning recruiting budgets after he had accepted the coaching job at Iowa. I'm paraphrasing slightly but it went like this... It is better to catch a flight out of Iowa City than it was to hitchhike out of Denton. Ouch! Plumm, do you remember this one?
  5. A real Aggie would have used his thumb.
  6. That would be Dan Gable. His stellar wrestling career actually took place at Iowa State. Iowa was where he coached.
  7. Yeah, kind of like The Ohio State University. I like it.
  8. I just remembered, the UTA players name was Ralph McPherson. Anyone remember him?
  9. Ah yes, that takes me back to the Bill Blakely era. In addition to the "who's he?" when the last visiting player was announced we would all yell "Oh, I know him" That reminds me of my favorite heckling story... Several years ago we had UTA in the Super Pit. Their starting center, a tall goofy white stiff whose name escapes me, had heard just about enough abuse from us and mouthed a FU to our section. Our response was did he kiss his mother with that mouth etc. A few minutes later he shot us all the finger to which one of our group responded, and I must be careful here, something to the effect of that middle finger and his mother. That was clearly over the line but all I remember was everyone in our section falling out of our chairs laughing. Good times folks, good times.
  10. Does Upstate's big win over SMUt put them ahead of us in the Sagarins now? How about a top 25 vote or two?
  11. Just curious, I noticed in the DMN that the payout for the NO Bowl was around $325,000 and the next lowest paying bowl was $750,000. Is the title sponsor so poverty stricken that our bowl pays HALF that of the next lowest. Good God, the WAC and CUSA's bowl tie ins pay better. Is this the best we (as a conference) can do?
  12. If the baby's a girl, I'm sure Tina Slinker will still be around to sign her. Either way, best wishes and prayers for a healthy baby.
  13. Devil's adversary... You're right about Texas, OU, A&M, but don't rule out the second three. I think home and home series are real possibilities here especially with T Tech. Why wouldn't they want to make another trip to Dallas? The metroplex is right in just about everybody's wheelhouse when it comes to recruiting and I don't see why they wouldn't want the added exposure. Don't forget the Big XII North schools. With the possible exception of Nebraska, who among those schools wouldn't want to dip their toes into the DFW recruiting experience? Your second group is solid. All good regional opponents that would bring fans along with them. (OK, maybe not SMOOO) I just think your per game average increase is a little conservative. Look in recent history at our "name" opponents re: Navy, Baylor, and SMU and the crowds they generated in a crappy stadium seating experience. Now put them in our new stadium with many fewer "bad" seats and more fan friendly sight lines and I see 35-40K easily for those games and 20-25K for the FIUs and MUTs of the world. (assuming we are still in the 'Belt) Sorry to be drinking the Kool Aid but I am in the "build it and they will come" camp until proven otherwise.
  14. Just a couple of weeks ago, Troy was getting scattered top 25 votes and now, they can't even get a bid to some pissant bowl??? I grant you, losing their last game (at home) wasn't very good but they did lose to a pretty decent FAU team. I know people on here say the 'Belt is on the rise and all that but I don't know if we will see any real rise in national respect in our lifetimes. I was no real fan of accepting a WAC invitation since it first came up but this kind of snub to a Troy team that was and is the class of our conference kind of gets me rethinking things.
  15. If his wife catches him, there may be plenty going wrong.
  16. Yes he is... and the internet too. Sorry Al Gore.
  17. That whole "SMU getting serious about football" is still making me giggle. Unless Bill Clements is going to start writing checks and buying BMWs for the players again, that program will suck for many more years.
  18. I wonder who won the game between Prosper and Auburn U.
  19. Post of the year material there... That is wisdom for the ages.
  20. We may be forgetting the third "bozo" involved here... the former coach who recruited these two losers.
  21. Yeah, what Rick said. BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!
