  1. For the record, this Crown and Coke Bear is responding to a post which reads: I never said that Baylor was going to be bad this year. I never said NT would win more games than Baylor. I never even wrote the word "homecoming." SMU is my least favorite school. I have several dozen alumni among my friends. I try to help the misguided when possible. Frankly I don't pay a lot of attention to Baylor. The last time I saw Baylor play was in Denton and I'm reasonably sure the team has improved. At least I would hope so! Now, I can understand that a fan of Baylor is a bit sensitive. Before we went to four bowl games in a row, NT fans were a bit sensitive. But most of the Baylor fan I know are at least literate.
  2. It's a little early yet to say the kid is a waste. There have been a number of kids at NT, athletes and others, who did things that were bad, got probation and never did anything bad again. Of course, there are others who think society "owes" them and end up in prison. Don't do much till this plays out. Saving a few scholarships till the Fall is not always a bad thing as we've found out this year!
  3. I would not want to be at either end of that list! java script:emoticon('')
  4. You asked if we could compete with ANY Big 12 school in ANY sport on a regular basis. When you factor in Soccer, Golf, Tennis, Track and the other sports the answer is obviously yes. We’re not going to win every year, but we would not be last every year either.
  5. There’s a reason Donnelly the FORMER AD at MTSU! There are several great answers to on the Sun Belt Board at this link.. My favorite is the comparison to Boise State. In the last 15 years they’ve gone from 1AA to contending for a BCS Bowl Berth! That is certainly within God’s lifetime. It is also pointed out that you do not have to be a Sun Belt member to lose a game by a lot of points. Texas 70 - Colorado 3 and USC 70 - Arkansas 17 were two from just last year. And both Colorado and Arkansas will probably contend for a National Championship again within God’s lifetime.
  6. That’s why there are so many delay of game penalties these days. The players have introduce themselves to each other!
  7. The ESPN article reads that there are two "signature wins" for the SBC. One was Troy over Missouri. The other was NT's (and DD's) win over Cincy.
  8. That's a good article for the Sun Belt. It points out problems, but also points out improvements. The article also points out we as a conference have to start winning more OCC games.
  9. Oh God! The lunatic really are running the asylum. I'm not certain the best way to respond here. I guess the fairest way is to point out the kid who started the thread is only 19 an not yet a student at Hawai'i. Please go a read the thread on the SBC board. WACy thread This child suggested North Texas would be better off in being WACy with Saromento State others. I and others pointed out to him that it made no sense for a Central Time Zime School to go WACy. There was a suggestion that a merger and the creation of a conference that stretched from Hawaii to Florida might work(!?!). Just as a frame of reference, this child did not know that ASU had EVER won a game against Hawaii. He seemed to doubt it was true. Plus, anything which might have taken place as long as five years ago was "so far in the past" as to not count for fans today. Again the child is 19 and not yet in college.
  10. First, you discussing a 24-year-old undergraduate. I'd hope that by the time she's 24 she'd not be as interested in doing activities on campus designed for 18-21. There's a lot of "growing up" between 21 and 24! Secondly, she works at a "shock-talk" radio station. The whole idea is to say things to get people to react. Plus, most of their listeners are fans of other schools. Notice I said "fans" as I frequently meet rabid OU and Texas "fans" who never attended (nor had children or parents attend) those schools. It's called playing to the crowd. Third, at least she does know we are in the Sun Belt Conference. I suspect she also knows we play 1A football. That puts her ahead of most of her listeners.
  11. I wouldn't know who to cheer for. Maybe for a comet to hit the stadium and get rid of both teams.
  12. No, it’s not an urban myth! I just looked an Alumi Giving is 5% of the total score! Financial resources is 10%. What’s our student body graduation rate? That is either 20% or 25% depending on how they count us. Are we a “National University” or a “University (Masters) and Comprehensive College.” Combined those are 35% to 40% of the total “academic” ranking! No wonder we are 4th tier in this study. I wonder how many will take the time that I just did to check the methodology? Link to US News
  13. I know in the past, a big part of the “academic” rankings included the percentage of graduates who “gave back” by joining alumni groups and making donations. With the number of grads we have the tiny number who join the NT Exes, it supposedly was enough to pull of from 3 tier to the 4th. I remember the helping our USNWR ranking was listed at one time as a reason to join the Exes.
  14. Looks like holding back some scholarships last Spring might have been a good idea.
  15. Maybe that was his plan all along!
  16. We might be. I’m sure at this point Bomar and Quinn would like to get out of the newspapers for a while! But, the NCAA had yet to finish their investigation. Until they finish and announce a punishment for the two, any school that takes these two is buying a true “pig in a poke.” They might be eligible to play at a 1A school in 2007, maybe 2008 or maybe never. Both 2007 and never are unlikely but possible.
  17. Actually there has been no news from any school. No surprising since any school that takes him is going to have to appeal to the NCAA to get him readmitted to college athletics. And this request is going to come BEFORE the NCAA decides exactly what his punishment should be!
  18. I was thinking something Gallery, but the only one I could remember was Furniture! I knew that wasn’t right!
  19. They probably should have named the list “Greatest since the return to real football.” But maybe it will get some people more excited about the coming season. That’s probably the point.
  20. Troy did NOT get into the Silicon Valley Bowl because a couple of schools “declined hoping for better bowls.” First, the BCS conferences did not have enough 6 win teams to meet all of their obligations. Secondly, at least on team was withdrew from bowl consideration after a large number of players were suspended from the team for a some reason - I forget exactly why. Third, Troy had some sponsor - I think it was HealthSouth - kick in a lot of cash to the bowl. That was beyond their paying Troy’s travel expenses. This is not at all unusual. The bowl in Boise often gives a bid to the team willing to buy the most tickets to guarantee sales. As the the SBC not having enough bowl eligible teams, this problem will get much better if a 9th team is added. A nine team conference playing a round robin schedule is almost guaranteed to produce two bowl eligible teams. There are no ties anymore - some has to win! It is looking more and more likely that Western Kentucky is going to start to move to playing 1A football which solves the 9th team problem.
  21. I want the guy who is going to win. I don’t know which one that is as I haven’t been at all of the practices and in the team meetings. A friend who used to manage the Cowboys TV network told me he was always amazed at fans claiming this or that quarterback was “clearly the best” when they had never been to a practice and certainly never been in a team meeting. He pointed out the (Cowboy) coaches often were not certain and they HAD been in all of the meetings and at all of the practices.
  22. Louisiana was never in 1AA. They had ups and downs through the years, but always competed at the top level. Arkansas State was pretty good back in the 60’s and 70’s. The Independence Bowl in Shreveport was greated bacause ASU got snubbed by other bowls. From what I’ve read, ASU was the only school that was even considered byt the NCAA for an exemption when the 1A and 1AA split occurred. But, your main point is correct, we are not a directional start-up program.
  23. We get mad when the idiot announcers call us NTSU, so let's get Dick ENBERG's name right! After all, he got our's right!
  24. I was in a bar in Lewisville and a large number of guys started cheering after Patrick's play. And Eric started for Pittsburgh against the Cowbows in Superbowl XXX. Plus a lot of other guys got TV time: Abner Haynes, Beasley Reese, Ron Shanklin to name a few.
