  1. Illegal players, if I remember right. It's a bit of a touchy subject since Hayden's 10 win season included a forfeit.
  2. Is there any actual reason to believe he was promoted other working hard and doing a good job?
  3. I enjoy reading lots of history. Chicago was not the same after the Great Fire. Neither was London. Atlanta, Dresden and Hiroshima are three cities that changed dramatically after wars destroyed much of them. They all "came back," but they came back differently than before. The folks I know who lived there for a while are all back. Those I know who had moved there a few years before have all moved on. About five years seems to be the "break point" among the people I personally know. If you lived there five years, you went back. Otherwise you did not. At least not yet. New Orleans will rise again, but it won't be quite the same New Orleans. I'm saying it will be better or worse, but it will be a little different. While I loved the old New Orleans, we should be willing to embrace the new.
  4. It's an old line, but I still like it: Let's not go WACy. (But if we can entice New Mexico State to join us some place else, that would be great!)
  5. I like the nickname, but his real name isn't John.
  6. From this article, it seems the roof was where most of the damage was. I'll try to add the link - I'm not good at that! Louisiana Weekly article on a contract to repair the Superdome.
  7. You could ski Sandia Peak before or after the game!
  8. I saw a report about how street crime in New Orleans is at it's lowest since they've kept records. NPR did a seperate story about how the murder rate is now so low they are talking about laying off many of the homicide detectives. The detective's main job these days is answering questions from OTHER departments about suspects that were from New Orlean, but are now living in other cities. The NFL and the City of New Orleans are making a very big deal about the Saints playing games at the Superdome next year. I notice the OWNER of the Saints is NOT talking about this! Say what you want about the French, but they build their part of New Orleans ABOVE sea level. Many of the tourist areas in the Garden District are also starting to come back. I'm not a big fan of Mardi Gras crowds, but perhaps this is a year to give it another try. Then again, I just bought some new furniture, so probably not for me!
  9. After Dennis Parker, who won 5A Championships in Marshal and Judson, I'm more than a little "gun-shy" of high school coaches jumping to a 1A head coaching job!
  10. From what the people at SMU say, far more than the WACy schools. There was a reason TCU, SMU, Rice and Tulsa bailed out of the WAC at their very first opportunity.
  11. I think it was, but I might be wrong on that. Since the attendance rules were changed back, it is not as important to being 1A.
  12. Headlines are written by editors, not the reporters. It is not uncommon for the headline writer to have not completely read the article!
  13. I think with a lot of our fans this is exactly the problem - they are more worried about who we are playing than watching their own team. That is the step TCU has managed to take. A significant number of their fans actually want to watch THE FROGS PLAY and they don't care who it is they are playing!
  14. While I think it will be better next year, never challenge Worse!
  15. Few things are worse than being in a hospital when no one knows what's wrong.
  16. Any one notice that the Women's team win was the top story on the Women's Basketball page and the Men's team win was the top story across on the Men's Basketball page. If we win, they really will write about us!
  17. Mike actually was a paid employee of KNTU back in 80 and 81. He also likes to say things on the air that will get a reaction for people. That way they will get mad, call in and tell their friends about it - all of which helps their ratings. His job is to get people to listen one way or another.
  18. The Hard Line gets good numbers, but they are not a "Top 20 National Show." They aren't even the top 18-35 show locally in their time slot. But, they do double ESPN locally most books.
  19. Maybe this will at last put the many uninformed criticism of SBC officials to rest!
  20. sigh So, because SBC officials are better at catching infractions, they "suck?" Did anyone else see the article earlier in the week about officials? It seems there were a number of complaints about CUSA officials in a bowl game. And the Alamo bowl was mentioned for controversial calls, not incorrect ones! In other articles the days after the game when the equipment break down was explained, the Big 10 commish both WW pointed out the Alamo bowl officiating crew had acted correctly under the circumstances. By the way, during the Rose Bowl, the announcers pointed out the officials from the Big 10 conference probably weren't used to seeing the athletic ability of Vince Young.
  21. Not quite, but close. The Ivy League chooses to not send their champion into the 1AA playoffs. And, 1AA schools are allowed less ridged academic admissions, but individual schools can and often do have higher standards. This is also true in 1A. SMU puts higher academic standards on their recruits than is required and thus has a harder time recruiting.
  22. None here. I think it's really an age thing - the younger you are the more likely you are. Interesting note: I have two nieces who went to TCU. When the older one was pledging a sorority, a girl in the group was rejected because she has a tattoo. By the time her sister, who's two years younger, was a junior, the entire pledge class got matching tattoos. When things change, they change fast! Neither of my nieces has any.
