  1. The 50 most important college players in Texas in 2016 — No. 26: UNT’s Jeffrey Wilson This is the second UNT player to make this list. Considering the change and emphasis on the QB position in this offense, I'm guessing we'll have at least one more player, probably within the top 5.
  2. The 50 most important college players in Texas in 2016 — No. 44: North Texas’ Bryce English This story is from April 29, so it may have been posted already (would be surprised if it hadn't) but nothing turned up in my search query. Looks like we still don't have word on the hardship waiver...I won't hold my breath on that, given our history.
  3. Did I miss something? Why is this even a discussion? Morris is our starter unless the line can't protect him and he gets injured.
  4. While I would prefer more of a traditional spring game, I understand the rationale. It is concerning that we don't have the personnel to hold a true scrimmage game, but my kids just want to go to hear the canon (the canon will still be a part of this practice, right?) and I'll be fine as long as beer is served.
  5. Actually, I'm glad someone revived this thread because I forgot to mention that UNT had a table, decorated in green, at the North Texas Irish Festival in Fair Park a couple weeks ago. There wasn't much interest from what I could see, maybe it was the location...right across from "Sons of Confederate Soldiers" table, who were proudly displaying their confederate flag.
  6. UNT = position coach pipeline for Utah State? Wonder if he'll pull as many area recruits as DD did?
  7. USM? This reeks of RV cronyism. UNT90's response in 3, 2, 1...
  8. I hadn't been on GMG.com or CNN.com all day today. I just checked CNN and I saw the headline, "166 TD passes, only 1 college offer." My first thought was please don't let this be about Fine, as I clicked on the link, cringing. Couldn't they wait just one more week to post this story? OK, now that I've actually read the article, it's quite favorable for both Fine and UNT. Rather than fear this national exposure will cause another school to steal our recruit, I'll be optimistic that this article will encourage other recruits to consider UNT.
  9. Don't know a thing about Fine, so I won't knock him for his size. But, I certainly hope he isn't the only HS QB commitment for this class.
  10. This is such as dumb annual debate. I take my kids to the parade just about every year and I, like others, wear Mean Green attire. I always hear a few "GO MEAN GREEN" yells. It just makes too much sense for UNT to have a float in this parade for it to ever become a reality. I mean everyone knows Notre Dame OWNS that parade, in DALLAS. And I disagree with the idea that putting Scrappy in the back of a truck (a green truck) with a few cheerleaders throwing out mini UNT footballs or green/white beads wouldn't accomplish our goal of having a successful presence at the parade. In fact, I thinks that's basically what the Notre Dame "float" is - I really can't remember anything other than the fact they were represented. This isn't the Rose Bowl parade - no one spends thousands of dollars and man hours building out a float every year.
  11. Allen freshman transfers to Florida's IMG Academy; is this a sign of things to come in Texas high school football? I don't like where this is headed.
  12. Anyone know how long Nick has had his twitter background picture set to a shot of LA from behind the Hollywood sign? https://twitter.com/nstarkel2
  13. I found a baby pic Nick: I would love to see this "problem" play out. It would be the most competitive QB competition we've had in a long time, if not ever.
  14. Completely understand your argument. However, I respectfully disagree that Starkel wouldn't have a legitimate chance to start as a true Freshman. "Handed the started the job" - no, hopefully those days are long gone. Unlike Morris and Kincade, Starkel lacks experience at the college level. But, neither Kincade nor Morris have started as a collegiate QB either. While ratings services aren't always reliable, they do serve as a decent guide by which to gauge talent. Starkel is ranked #15 in the NATION for "Pro-style QBs" in 2016 by Rivals. Morris was ranked #30 in the same category in 2012 and Kincade was ranked #26 in that same category in 2013. (Excuse me, but I will have re-read that paragraph numerous times…the thought of having THREE TOP 30 NATIONALLY-RANKED QBs at UNT at the same time is almost too much to believe. If I’m dreaming, please don’t wake me.) By comparison, Starkel would be our highest ranked QB and, apparently, he thinks he is as good or better than last year's #1 QB recruit or he wouldn't be considering UCLA. So why wouldn't he be able to beat out Morris and Kincade. -Gangrene
  15. I think you're assuming an awful lot in thinking the QB position would be solidified (and not open for competition) for the next two years, even if both transfers do come to UNT.
  16. Definitely, recruiting for all positions should continue right up until the LOI is signed.
  17. A little info on UCLA to help Nick make his decision ;): Uncertainty with Head Coach (OC already left) Jim Mora has been reportedly "trying hard" to get an NFL job (ironically enough, Kevin Sumlin is mentioned in the same tweet). Mora has since confirmed his commitment to UCLA, but for how long is anyone's guess. Josh Rosen, the 2015 #1 nationally-ranked QB (per Rivals, 24/7 Sports and Scout) started as a true Freshman and seems firmly entrenched as the Bruins QB for the next three years. His 2015 stats, and a comment from Jim Mora: Josh Rosen is a “generational” quarterback UCLA already has one top-ranked (#20, per Rivals) QB committed for 2016 in Matt Lynch. There have been several top UCLA commits to de-commit in the last few months: Oluwole Bituke, Sean Auwae, Chris Gaston and Bailey Raborn For me, personally, the deciding factor to not go to UCLA would be the proximity of TMZ reporters: Josh Rosen hot tub removed
  18. Not at all. National signing day is Feb 3. By announcing on the 2nd, it gives less time for other schools to try to talk him out of his decision...again.
  19. Talented 2016 QB down to four schools Love how this reporter all but dismisses the idea of him going anywhere other but A & M or UCLA.
  20. Sounds like someone is his family is trying to talk him out of coming to UNT.
  21. I believe we're in the NCAA-designated dead period until January 13, so I wouldn't expect any visits, (written and electronic communication is fine) to occur until next Thursday, at the earliest.
  22. Poor timing on UTSA's part = good news in recruiting battles for us.
