  1. For No. 20 Toledo and Matt Campbell, little things lead to big success This guys needs to be interviewed. He doesn't have Texas ties, but he's young, energetic, affordable (for now) and he wins. Toledo is ranked #20? Really? I'm sure he'll get scooped up by a P5 school but he most definitely fits the profile of what UNT needs in our next coach.
  2. The definition of insanity? Following UNT Football and expecting different results.
  3. Abner Haynes played for Dodge? Why do we have to hire an offensive or defensive minded coach? Why can't we just hire a winning minded coach?
  4. I don't either. Kudos to Vito for asking the question we all want to ask. ADs generally are extended the courtesy of being allowed to resign, rather than getting t fired which, I'm sure, is why he phrased the question that way.
  5. Too funny, I saw that too and had the same reaction. In fact, I had to look at the time stamp on the post three times just to make sure I wasn't reading a thread from 2009. I don't know where they are getting that information but I'm going to say they have their facts wrong. If Jeff Bower's name shows up on a short list of coaches, reported by a reliable source, I'll just peace out and forgot about UNT football forever. In fact, I'll probably (see what I did there - left myself an out) do that if RV has anything to do with this hire.
  6. Whole-heartedly agree with everything you just said. The fact that our alumni/fan base can so easily dismiss the thought, while really not all that surprising, speaks volumes about why we find ourselves in this situation in the first place. Many scoffed at UTSA's hiring of Larry Coker who, arguably, had a far lesser resume than Mack Brown. UTSA is down this year but they've kicked our ass every year we've played them and are no where near the laughing stock many of us (myself included) had hoped they'd be. And for those that say Mack Brown is too old, he's 64. Bill Snyder, whose K-State team almost knocked off #2 TCU and # 20 Oklahoma State, is 76. So, age shouldn't necessarily be a deciding factor. Just to be clear, this was a tongue-in-cheek suggestion - I'm not endorsing Mack Brown as our top HC candidate, but we'd be rather foolish to pass on him if he wanted the HC job.
  7. Mack Brown: On the possibility of returning to coaching, Mack Brown told Paul Finebaum yesterday that “I really haven’t thought about (coaching) a lot, but I’ve told ESPN that if anybody wants to talk to me, I’d love to talk to them and see if the fire is still there. But I haven’t had that call yet.” Well, maybe my subject line was a bit misleading, but you never know until you ask.
  8. North Texas Doesn't Screw Around, Heads Roll Fast I don't know, this feels sort of like one bullied kid feeling sorry for another.
  9. Where's the "MGB Breaking News: AD Rick Villareal to step down/resign/fired/gets reassigned/goes on a permanent fishing trip" article?
  10. In this case, no news is certainly not good news.
  11. Can't we just dust off the 2010 Neinas report, update a few dates and attendance figures, and save ourselves the money and trouble of going through this charade again? Or will there actually be a coaching recommendation this time?
  12. How many lives does RV the cat have left? We had numerous discussions about RV's ability to hire a quality FBS HC in 2006 and then again in 2009. Why is RV immune from the firing line? Rick Villareal should not be allowed to hire our next HC
  13. Yep, and that worked out so well we should do it again. Chuck Neinas, do you need another easy $40K?
  14. I have to say, I enjoyed the spring game more.
  15. I really hope you're right, but who is the victory against? Looking at the remaining schedule as objectively as I can, Portland State, UTSA and UTEP are really the only teams I see us having any chance against this year. Maybe you can throw MTSU into that mix and hope we have a bad weather game where we get a LOT of turnovers. If this team has stopped believing, as some have suggested, we're staring 0-12 in the face. Recruiting at UNT is hard enough without the additional negative of a win-less season. To any players or coaches reading this - prove me wrong PLEASE, prove me wrong. Put this up on the bulletin board and call me every worthless fan name you can think of...I'll be happy to admit I was wrong.
  16. If anyone has tickets you're not planning to use, please PM me. I have family/friends coming in from out of town that want to go to the game. Thanks,
  17. Jim Leavitt I'll answer my own question. No, we probably missed that window...5 years is a long time. I don't know if Leavitt still has the drive and the energy it takes to pull this program from the depths of abyss.
  18. Bowls game every year in the current FBS structure should most definitely be the expectation. Anything less should be considered a failure. 84 of 128 college teams will go to a bowl game this season. No reason we shouldn't be one of them. 3 new bowl games mean 84 of 128 college football teams will go bowlingBy Chris Fuhrmeister @ccfuhr on May 6, 2015, 8:33a http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2015/5/6/8557399/new-college-football-bowl-games-yes-more
  19. This, I'd be nervous about the possibility of McNulty being benched if I was Carlos Harris too. Carlos had 216 yards on 15 catches against Southern Miss last year with McNulty as his QB. I sat and watched in disbelief as Southern Miss continued to play soft coverage on him. SMU didn't do the same and almost picked McNulty every time he looked in the direction of Carlos. McNulty telegraphs his passes and he doesn't have the arm strength to overcome it. To Carlos's point, "he works with the talents God gave him," I agree McNulty does put in the time and effort it takes to succeed and he's a smart kid. I don't blame McNulty, I blame the coaching staff. If McNulty is the best QB on the team, the offense needs more adjustments to compensate....more timing plays, play-actions and, for the love of God, work with him on looking off DBs with his eyes and using pump-fakes. That's how you overcome a weak arm. Carlos, if you read this, kudos to you for coming to the defense of your teammates. I admire and respect that. I played sports long before social media was invented and I'm not sure how I'd handle it. But, this board represents the die-hard UNT fan. Try as we may, we will never stop following and supporting our school. We will be critical and we will demand better, but our expectations are no different than any other college. And this...lol...I think you meant politically correct.
  20. You could add me to the list too, except I punched my bingo card two years ago. I found better things to waste my time, or so I thought. I took my family to this game, hoping for a big win against a school I can't stand. Instead I saw a high school game.
  21. Really? I walked down to the end zone, saw all of the concession gates closed, and just gave up. I didn't see anyone else with a beer either. Regardless, we had a great time. The weather was awesome and the canon was firing almost non-stop. That was the only thing my 3-year-old didn't enjoy. I've been so out of touch I didn't even know Dunham had announced his retirement. Being there for that and congratulating him on his HOF induction were just added bonus.
  22. I'm about to head out for the game, does anyone know if they will be selling alcohol at the game today?
