  1. My source told me that they have narrowed the list down to only two options. Option 1 will be very similar to the helmets worn by the Philadelphia Eagles because the administration wants to capitalize on the recent success Philadelphia has experienced. The second option being considered would be a full helmet logo and feature the latest in airbrush artwork technology. The helmet would be enveloped with the entire head of an eagle; the beak at the front of helmet (just above the facemask) and eyes on both sides complemented by white and black feathers covering the rest of the helmet. This option would give the appearance of larger-than-life eagle heads and could be completed by the tailgate artist at any local automotive body shop.
  2. I think you're right on that one. I think those are last year's final rankings. I haven't seen anyone with a pre-season Top 25 as whacked as this: #2 Auburn (lost half of their offense) #3 Utah (new coaching staff and MWC team that doesn't get that kind of pre-season respect) #6 Louisville (life will be much different in the Big East) #9 Boise State (see respect comment on Utah) #16 Tennessee (returns 9 starters on offense and 9 on defense...factor in the respect factor and they are much higher on most polls; TSN ranks the Vols #2) #18 Ohio State (also returns 9 on O and 9 on D; TSN ranks the Buckeyes #3) #25 Navy --- well this ranking alone tells me that it's not for the 2005 season. Navy had a great season last year, but those don't happen too often for the Midshipmen; TSN ranks them at #70 for the pre-season. Regarding the updated time comment; well, now it says I don't think they would update it every day.
  3. Texas Tech Women's Football Clinic Scheduled The Sixth Annual Texas Tech Women's Football Clinic has been scheduled for Aug. 4 at 6:30 p.m. July 18, 2005 LUBBOCK, Texas - A facilities tour, offensive and defensive instruction and an equipment demonstration highlight the Fifth Annual Texas Tech Women's Football Clinic, which is scheduled for Thu., Aug. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Texas Tech Football Training Facility. The event is presented by ASCO. Entry fee for the clinic is $30. Groups of five or more may sign up for $25 per person and all forms must be turned in together. For more information, please contact the Texas Tech Football Office at (806) 742-4260. Applications for the Women's Football Clinic are available at www.texastech.com and www.mikeleach.net. A camp t-shirt and refreshments are included in the entry fee. The primary purpose of the clinic, which will be divided into beginner and advanced levels, is to provide the female football fan with an in-depth insight to the game. The previous three clinics sold out quickly. "The first four years were successes and everyone had a great time," said Dennis Simmons, Tech Assistant Athletic Director of Football Quality Control and clinic coordinator. "Most clinics cater to men, not allowing women the same opportunity. We want to provide the female football fan with the same knowledge of the game that men receive in these types of clinics." The goal of the Texas Tech Football Clinic for Women is to educate female fans with an opportunity to gain perspective into the world of a Division I football player. Texas Tech football coaches will be on hand throughout the clinic and provide instruction. Members of the Texas Tech football team will be on hand to demonstrate the proper use and wear of equipment. The evening will conclude with an auction featuring Texas Tech memorabilia. Participants are encouraged to dress comfortably for warm weather. It is recommended that participants wear tennis shoes and a t-shirt. I like the first sentence in the last paragraph the most, "Members of the Texas Tech football team will be on hand to demonstrate the proper use and wear of equipment." What equipment do you think they are going to demonstrate?
  4. I still don't understand how rushing for 805 yds last season gets Henderson in a pre-season top 15 RB ranking...even if it was for the pass-happy Red Raiders.
  5. Yeah, I noticed that too...WTF is up with that??
  6. I just received this email at 1:10PM: I guess I'm not as important as everyone else reading this thread!!! Damn it...I'm always the last one to know everything!! I've seen a lot of positive changes under Dr. Pohl and I want to hear the real story behind this move myself. I'm sad to see him go. I certainly hope this isn't the preface to a much larger and horrific Baylor-esque story. The amount of notice he is giving the university does NOT lead me to believe that may be the case. Didn't TAMU recently replace their president? I don't recall the exact names but I do remember that they had some pretty high profile candidates.
  7. I was just watching some FOX Sports imitation of ESPN Classic. The game was the 2002 LSU vs Kentucky classic in which LSU scored the 75 yard touchdown pass with :02 seconds left in the game. That game was played in Lexington and Kentucky was pretty good that year. The only reason I'm mentioning this is because Kentucky was likely the better team on the field that day but LSU still won. It seemed like Kentucky expected to lose because they have always been dominated by LSU. What will our mindset be when we play LSU? Will we take the field expecting to lose 65-0 or will we harbor thoughts of an upset? However unlikely, a UNT upset of LSU could put us on the road to an undefeated season and a BCS bowl game. No one expects that to happen and we'd all be ecstatic with a victory over K-State and a one loss season, culminating with a New Orleans Bowl win and a top 25 ranking. Well, it's late and I'm still a little drunk and maybe already asleep and dreaming...OBVIOUSLY. Now to the point...what will the betting line vs LSU be?? My prediction is 38 1/2 and I'm not sure which side I would take...if I was a gambling man.
  8. And Scrappy is not a stupid name??? I was there in '94 and I don't really recall this issue, but I'm sure I was opposed to it. I will forever relate the name "Scrappy" to that stupid little mutt that ruined one of my favorite childhood cartoons. Yeah, I'm still bitter.
  9. I think that is the biggest asset Byerly has/had going for him...he's a load to bring down. In the only game I've seen him play (the 65-0 drubbing at UT), the defense had a hard time tackling him and he slipped out of a sure sack once or twice. I don't recall seeing him in the open field, but I'd bet he'd be a scary sight to some poor SBC secondaries. I certainly wasn't worried about him getting hurt in the OOC schedule like Scott Hall did two years ago. I, too, am worried about Byerly or any other inexperienced QB this team has to start. A QB can make or break any game with his decision making ability. A little pressure and a hurried throw can result in an interception for a TD and can totally change the game strategy in a matter of a few seconds. I know I am thinking way ahead right now, but any opposing D coordinator would be crazy not to key on the run and force the inexperienced QB to beat you.
  10. Mean Green Fan, I don't want to sound rude, but is it absolutely necessary to post an "I told you so" on every single thread on this forum?? I've read basically the same post from you three times now...
  11. I knew that idea was going to come up in this thread sooner or later. If we don't want defenses to load the box and prevent the run, we'd better come up with more creative offensive schemes than the wishbone or the option. Until opposing defenses respect the pass, they won't have much of a problem focusing on the run. We'll have that problem no matter who starts at QB because he will be a virtual unknown. Hell, we even had this problem, to a certain degree, with Scott Hall last year. Washington's speed could be beneficial in QB draws as well but, once again, the respect for the pass has to exist. If it is true that Byerly is ineligible, I am extremely disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing what he could do on the field. However, I don't think he's head and shoulders (figuratively, because he is literally) above the rest of the QBs. I definitely feel that we have viable options to be successful this year, but someone's going to have to get the ball to Johnny and Zach every now and then.
  12. Oh man, that was hilarious. Do you think we can sell it out?
  13. Just for grins, here are a couple of links to many other high school stadiums that closely resemble Fouts...most of these stadiums are in Texas: http://forum.dallasmetropolis.com/showthre...=&threadid=1136 http://texashsfootball.com/board/index.php...topic=3703&st=0 Be sure to click on the link to Midland's Grande Communication Stadium. One point I'd like to make is how hard it is to recruit top-notch high school kids when our stadium is worse than their high school stadium. To make it worse, a lot of these high school kids get to play in major college or pro stadiums during the playoffs. I know a stadium isn't everything but it should certainly be pretty high on the priority list.
  14. I thought my level of sarcasm was obvious, but maybe I was wrong. Yes, of course I was joking. While that photo does a great job of highlighting the attendance, it doesn't paint a very flattering picture of Fouts. If I wasn't familiar with Fouts Field, I'd have a hard distinguishing that picture from a picture of a high school stadium such as this: http://www.texashsfootball.com/board/lofiv...php/t12462.html
  15. Was that picture taken at a football game? Where are the players? I'll admit I didn't go to any games last year but I sure remember that press box side of the grand stand being a little taller than it appears in that picture. I'll be glad when we get a legitimate D-1 stadium.
  16. The consensus here is 2-2 in non-conference play. While I'd absolutely love to see that scenario unfold, is it realistic? I remember going 2-2 only once over the last several seasons and it seems a 1-3 non-conference record is the norm. Are Tulsa and La Tech really that much worse than last season's Baylor and FAU?? Tulsa ended last season with a victory over a strong UTEP team and La Tech beat a strong Fresno St team. I know this is a score prediction thread but I thought everyone might want to see how the Sporting News ranks our competition (UNT is #61): LSU #6 MTSU #66 Tulsa #108 Kansas State #50 Troy #81 FAI #118 La Tech #67 La Lafayette #96 La Monroe #104 FAU #119 Arkansas State #111 I don't put a whole lot of credibility in pre-season rankings but TSN doesn't seem to have the same "kiss of death" that Sports Illustrated has. Playing at MTSU in week two, with an inexperienced QB and the week after playing the #6 team in the nation scares me to death. Can someone explain why this game was scheduled so early?? I don't want to seem pessimistic but I don't want to set my expectations too high either. I can be easily convinced that we can beat Tulsa since it's a home game, but I'm not so confident about La Tech.
