  1. So what the heck does this mean?? "ticket considerations??"....now we find out that they could be sitting on our side?! What exactly should we be expecting??....
  2. Damn good post. Oh, and my response to Harry and anyone who say that the season hinges on Jamario Thomas: Go ahead and book your vacation packages to this year's New Orleans Bowl....or wait, if we go 11-1 could we possibly get a better bowl game?
  3. I have a hard time believing that we'll put up 14 on UT, though. Maybe we get some turnovers?? Oh, and NICE smu slam, SE-66!
  4. I don't know how much blame DD should take for that game. I remember being at the game and thinking that we weren't making adjustments (or meaningful ones, anyways), but we did try screens and quick slants. I think alot of that game just came down to SMiss' massive Dline and their superstar LBs. We were overmatched in that game and I'm not really sure we could have done anything to counter, in game.
  5. I tend to agree with this....however, last year we definitely opened the passing playbook up. I have to wonder if this was because of our poor play at TE? Maybe this just makes the decision that much quicker for DD and RF to really stop focusing on the 2 TE sets during fall practice so that we can get more work in with 3 wideouts---or heaven forbid, we actually use Keronna Henderson to knock some heads around. Do you guys remember what we were running at the end of last season?...as in how much of the 2 TE offense did we run and how successful were we with it vs. using just 1 TE and adding either a FB or WR?
  6. I am officially naming illuvius32 as my mortal enemy. The only important points in this entire 'fact' filled post are: >> He led the Fing nation with a bum hamstring!!! >> If you know this for certain, then RF has just supplanted you as Mortal Enemy #1
  7. He got horse collared...and injured. Out for the game. Next week, he's back in. The LB who got him had been talking trash about him all week, then gets a cheap collar tackle on him. Cheap shots happen. This is football after all. The major point is that he's back in the next week and plays in every meaningful game from that point forward. Last year was an abberation and who knows what really was going on there. I tend to distrust 'The Man', and the Man in this situation is RF. Did RF keep JMo on the sidelines b/c he couldn't figure out how to use Cobbs and JMo at the same time and was just being loyal to Cobbs? I don't know. But the conspiracy theorist inside me says that RF is to blame. Not Super Jamario. Look some people spew hate about UT, SMU, etc, etc, etc....I tend to reserve my rants to trusting in Super Jamario and hating Devil Fran. Those are my 2 talking points. I'm not giving them up easily.
  8. Damn you people. Super Jamario is not the problem. He is not injury prone. If he played with the same hamstring injury he supposedly had last year during his freshman year, then he has proven that he will play injured---and that he plays AT A VERY HIGH LEVEL even while injured. Do you people not remember him being fully dressed out for every home game last season....heck, he even rode the bike during most of the games. Blame RF. Blame Pat Cobbs....but stop blaming Super Jamario.
  9. Please. I don't see how you beat yourself b/c you think another person is arrogant. Now, if you think that their arrogance is well earned and that they are truly better than you, yes...you have a problem. I don't think the class warfare argument is too far offbase...regardless of how many rich alums we have. The simple fact is that the identity of UNT is as a place where you EARN your degree. It's a university that still hasn't shaken the commuter school tag in many people's minds--however unfounded that tag is. Above and beyond that, this is about public vs. private. There is a perceived "class" separation in those 2 words alone. So no, I don't think that the smuuers are better than us...and I sure as heck don't put them up on a pedestal. That said, I don't hate them as much as most on this board do. oh....seems like there was an argument awhile back about a song that should be played at the start of the game on 9/9.....how about Aerosmith's 'Eat the Rich'?? Seems like a perfect fit to me.
  10. We've been through both scenarios already in the last 10 years: 1. 1997. Beat Tech one week, then host tamu at Texas Stadium to close to 50k fans---give them a game for one half before fumbling it away. Everyone's hopes are still somewhat high as we get our next game (first Big West contest) at Idaho aired on local live tv....we lose that game and everyone says we're a fluke. 2. 2002. Get stomped by UT (27-0, while closer than we're used to--is still a stomping. I was there, in person) but go onto our best year in decades as we finish with a big bowl win. Heck, even 2004 is a good example...we get absolutely shallacked 65-0 at UT, but go on to win the conference again. So....having lived through both scenarios, I'd have to take #2 b/c it ultimately leads to more respect for NT. That said, I'd really rather beat both of them!
  11. If you think that associating with any of the names you mention above would benefit UNT (in a good way), then we have reached an impasse. As far as the devil comments, I am mostly joking....except that I am not....it has been proven many, many times. Yep, he's Satan alright....
  12. Let me break this down for you guys. Dennis Franchione = The Devil Hire Devil Fran?...sell your soul.....?? Not me. Hopefully not NT.
  13. I'll just say that it definitely sweetened that victory!
  14. I'd wager on it--and I think that we'll be struggling early in the year while SMU will not. BUT I'D STILL BET ON UNT! In fact, you're a dirty poo eater if you're a UNT alum and you wouldn't. Enough about that...my top 10: 1. 2002 UNT over NMSU (still the best UNT home game I've ever been to) 2. 1997 UNT over Ttech (best away game I've been to) 3. 2001 UNT over NMSU (miracle comeback that clinched the 1st bowl) 4. 2003 UNT over BU (most enjoyable beating I've ever witnessed) 5. 2002 UNT over Cincy 6. 1999 UNT over Ttech 7. 2003 Memphis over UNT (UNT almost pulls it off against a more respected CUSA team despite mistakes and crappy officiating) 8. 2005 Troy over UNT (national tv audience--this was a first from fouts, right?) 9. Either of the 2 close losses to highly ranked TCU teams under Devil Fran at Amon Carter 10. 1997 UNT over Utah St. (Simon's last game was unbelievably entertaining in front of 500 people)
  15. Why do we even allow the separate departments purchasing power of this type? Would it not solve everyone's problems to have one central group at NT handle all purchasing of shirts/hats/etc(basically anything that was going to prominently display the NT brand) and have all the different departments go through them? I realize this would be painful at first, but it would solve the F'ing problem.
  16. Dang...I didn't even think about the spring sports teams unis.....it is terrible that the women's softball team is still using the old logo over a year after it was released. You would think that this would have been ironed out by the Fall '06 school year, but the fact that the football team will still be using the old colors casts a pretty large shadow of doubt. You are right, this is embarrassing.
  17. I'm confused by this....I see more NT hats in hat stores than I ever did before the logo change....not tons of one kind of hat, either...most hat stores have 5+ different styles to choose from (which, to me, is a lot). I rarely buy t-shirts or the like, so I can't comment on the availability of that kind of merchandise....but it just seems that we are doing better than we did before. Maybe I just live in a target area?...are you not seeing the same thing with hats? If you do, what more are you expecting? That said, what is the story on our unis still not being the new shade of green? Will they ever be?...how did the AD get around this? Is the new shade being dropped? Most of the hats that I've seen in stores use the new logo, but the old colors. Did someone make an executive decision that the new color was too hard to match and dropped it?
  18. That's crazy. Did you see the Czech's Jan Koller before he went down to injury? 6'7"....very little ball skills, but he could run and head the ball. England has a very similar player in David Crouch. Guys with that body type in America play basketball. Take a look at some of the other team's rosters....they are filled with 6' athletes....our roster is a bunch of 5' types---it's almost comparable to how golf used to be in this country before Tiger Woods happened and made the sport popular to a wider range of people. Before Tiger Woods, golf was played and dominated by little guys...or fat guys. Check it out now....the tour is littered with bigger, stronger looking athletes (ok, at least bigger and stronger than they were)....
  19. I don't know if this match sets soccer back in this country or not (as the media would have you believe)...but that one game against Ghana alone had to have turned many people away once again. We found a tv in my building that was showing the game (only caught the last 20 minutes) and about 15 people were huddled around it....just from looking at most of the folks watching it, they were not soccer types.....that said, all the diving, flopping, falling, time killing that Ghana did at the end of that game just made the group moan and groan and look at each other with expressions like, "this is a joke....they allow this in this sport...etc...etc.." I am a soccer guy and that game made me sick....at least the final 15-20 minutes of it. I have to think the MLS suffers some from that game.
  20. Agreed. Last year's finals almost did me in...though the team I was rooting for ultimately won. I thought this year's finals had some awful calls, but Dallas was not beaten by the refs...they were beaten by themselves and falling back into their tendency to be a 'pretty' jump shooting team....and Dirk led the team by example. The same calls that Wade took advantage of were available to Dirk as well....but you don't get the calls anymore unless you drive the lane. Terry and Harris are not going to get those calls, but Dirk would have. He did all through the playoffs....esp. against the Spurs and Phoenix. I blame the European for the loss!
  21. Agreed. The man wears freaking football style pads under his basketball shorts for goodness sakes!...almost trying to 'sell' some idea that he goes harder to the basket than anyone else. I stopped liking Wade in the Detroit series (ok, I admit I hadn't seen much of him before then either)....think it was game 5 or 6?...anyways, the guy got "hurt" in virtually every game of the series, only to come back minutes later to dominate....fishy?...well, I distinctly remember one drive that was blocked by Ben Wallace only to see Wade flail to the ground....no foul was called, but Wade just kept laying on the ground while the Pistons pushed the ball back upcourt. ONE floor level camera catches him grimacing, only you see him take a quick look around to see if anyone is still watching him. He realizes noone is watching so he gets back up and runs down the court. The look on his face is what turned me off of him...in that instant, you could tell he was faking.
  22. AK State?! I just don't get it. Many, too many, predictions on this board have AK State beating us. How, exactly, are they going to replace their do-it-all QB Noce?? Yes, they may have a decent defense and return quite a few players....but I don't know why so many people (press and public) are completely disregarding the loss of Noce. To me, he made that team tick....and by ticking I mean barely had a heartbeat...they didn't have a winning streak of more than 2 games in going 6-6 last season.
  23. Good reply. So, I would be interested to hear a breakdown of each player...from arm strength, making reads, play making ability, leadership, etc, etc...then ranking each against each other. I know what I've seen in my limited (mostly game--spring or regular season) exposure to them compared to what you have seen plus whatever you've heard from being an insider...
  24. Ok...so what is ASU's new nickname? There is no mention of any changes on their athletic website...
