  1. I'm going to steal a page from SE66's handbook here: Let some more years of toiling in anonymity run their course for all of the schools you mentioned. You wouldn't give 2 craps to go see SMU or Rice if they didn't have the rich tradition behind them b/c you wouldn't have heard of them if all you had to go on was the past 15 years. Anyone who benefitted from the old SWC and now finds themselves struggling to survive is at risk of being passed up by us. Personally, I think we're going to get the best of all worlds as the US population shifts more to the south. Dallas is going to continue to grow, which means that Denton will also. With the increase in population, we'll have to cap our enrollment at some point--which will trigger us accepting only the more "traditional" type students, who tend to throw themselves into the college scene more than commuters. Couple that with the fact that we're getting more and more exposure (athletically) each and every year and things will eventually get where we are solidly categorized in that mid-major/big school category that everyone covets. Obviously, all speculation...but the US Census backs up the population shift.
  2. Why should 'placing his own stamp' include changing our uniforms?! To me, this is the kind of stuff that contributes to keeping us small time. We already have our look out in the public's eye after our 4 bowl appearances....to the point that people actually recognize us, somewhat....change the uniforms too much and you just confuse everyone all over again. That said, if we change our uniforms we need to follow the conventions laid out by Logogate....otherwise we just undermine that entire effort and we'll be right back to changing everything again in 10 years. From what I've heard so far, the new uniforms will actually be closer to the new look than the old uniforms...just wish we didn't copy Southlake's helmet so exactly.....
  3. Yes...I chide a hog-fan coworker of mine about how Arkansas has turned into a drama queen school of late. Who knows what Arkansas would have done next year with that team coming back....Heath only just got that program back into shape after Nolan left it for dead his last couple of seasons...
  4. I definitely like FFR's idea of a 7 syllable chant....but we need a school wide yell practice if it is ever going to get off the ground. It sounds like that was mentioned by the committee, and I hope they push for it to get started. The pep rallies from last year were ok...but a yell practice would be better, IMHO.
  5. If true, our repeat bid as Sun Belt champs just got a whole lot easier...
  6. Wrong....the people buying the games need to wake up and STOP BUYING CRAP. As long as EA continues to dominate in sales, why would they change their direction? EA has been doing this for years and years. They had a huge layoff last year where they cleared out their development staff....in essence, they choose to spend their money locking out the competition rather than on actually developing quality games. Interesting behavior from a supposed game publisher....
  7. Yep...and a 15 seed to boot. Playing NAIA did nothing for us. Running the conference tourney got us into the NCAA field, which got us the media's attention. Maybe a slightly better non-conf slate helps us move up from the near impossible 15 seed placement...
  8. I want Baylor on the schedule. Other than that, I really don't care...just no more NAIA. Sure we may have 3 less wins, but we're never going attract any good attention by playing 3 of these guys in the same season....
  9. Seems like your sensationalizing this a bit...got some numbers to show what percentage of BSU's 2006 squad were non-qualifiers?
  10. I agree! I have been impressed with Bell and Wooden the most this last month. Wooden looks like he's ready for a breakout season next year and Bell is just a solid, smart PG....which is something that we haven't had since I've been following this program. JJ's teams(guards specifically) always seem to struggle with the press, but this team did well until the bench came into play. We're a player or two away from making some serious noise.
  11. Same here...except I was alerted to the fact that an old Bruceling had made it to the final 12 so I watched the one show and saw him get knocked out.
  12. Well...I'll say something. America screwed up...sour grapes? Most definitely. Brandon was at UNT the same time I was, and stood out b/c he was a GENUINELY friendly person. Clearly he had a ton of talent as well. Good luck to him in the future....
  13. After listening to tonight's broadcast crew (the ESPN Plus crew), I don't see why you shouldn't use the EXACT same poster. The color guy tonight NEVER called us anything but "North Texas State"....oh, and he got Wooden's name wrong too....called him Woodson all night...actually both commentators did. Where do they find these guys?
  14. I will agree with this. Just matching solely based on skill set, it's Meager #1 and WW #2. Seems like the QB runs a lot more in the Dodge spread, so you have to be worried about DM getting hurt again....but I think he's your starter going up to Norman. Now...if we do land Riley Dodge (and I think we will), you have to wonder how Dodge is going to handle playing both Vizza and his son. He went hard after Vizza and convinced him to switch from Nevada (where he had a good shot at the starting job supposedly). I wonder if he's thinking of playing him right away so Riley can redshirt one season and still have 2 left after Vizza graduates??
  15. We are now arguing over who was on the "Dump DD" bandwagon first. This is officially the beginning of the football offseason....crap.
  16. All these guys are awesome, but only one had a frickin bobble-head made for him. Booger.
  17. I remember hearing this info for the first time last summer....and switched from being against the development to being FOR it. My question is who is left that still wants this project stopped?!...and of those people--what are their reasons? Not trying to be an @ss, just seriously confused as to what all the fuss is about....
  18. I would actually expect the opposite. A team going for the win will be more likely to take risks--that may or may not work and can leave your D in bad field position. DD did nothing but beat the spread in the body bag games in his first 6-7 years at UNT. He did it by never taking any big risks. He ran the ball to run the clock out and hoped to keep it close and not get anyone injured. My money would be on a DD coached team to keep it closer....but a TD team to occasionally pull out the win in these situations....if that makes any sense at all....
  19. Yep...I love the timing of this article also...with the DD hiring at Utah State, we get to see some of that same old rhetoric--but are now detached and able to hear it as outsiders. I feel sorry for the fans at USU. But every single time I hear or read anything about or quoting Todd Dodge I have hope for the future at UNT. It is an incredible difference to see the positive attitude displayed by Dodge. Thank goodness...
  20. ?? I hadn't heard about this. What is she doing exactly? Just allowing students to schedule appointments or does she hold an open forum meeting? I share the sentiments shared so far....Dr. B is awesome and is like the natural progression of Dr. Pohl at UNT...if that makes any sense.
  21. Awesome! Great to see the enthusiam---and willingness to buy season tickets! On an aside...anybody know the numbers as far as new season tickets purchased since TD's hiring?
  22. We're already in....we're the diehards! Now....where are you from? Any UNT ties before the TD hiring? Oh....and welcome aboard. I trust you've already bought season tickets?
