  1. Good post. I am trying to avoid reading or listening to any comments about UNT. Yesterday I listened to the Galloway/Esteridge rant and about drove off the road. Esteridge is a dang TCU homer who acts like he's close to the situation at UNT?!?!.....anyways, that 30 minutes of radio convinced me that we're just gonna get bashed by everyone for a few weeks. If one positive can come of this, it is that we know we made the right decision b/c apparently NO attention had been paid to Denton, TX except for the 4 bowl games....the first of which we were drug through the mud for being under .500 going into the game.
  2. Definite thanks to Ole Green Guts.....I don't think I'd ever heard that he did, in fact, bash the school and alumni privately.....obviously he slammed us in the media.....sheesh.
  3. I hear you, but "he has better things he can move onto" sounds pretty bitter. The last thing we need is to lose some of these guys as future supporters. Honest question: what does our current letterman's association look like? Do we have some active supporters that played for DD?...what's the precedent at NT for seeing continued involvement in the letterman's association after a HC's firing? I'm only asking b/c I'd like to see some of these guys stick around the program. Also, (and this is off-topic) what can be done to honor some of NT's past teams during halftimes of games (or the like)? This is something I always like to see and it seems it happens very little at NT. Would it be terribly difficult to bring together (every year) the 10(or 15?) year reunion of a class and honor them at Homecoming?
  4. Would anyone really be upset if our new HC comes from S. Miss? I wouldn't be. They've consistently been one of the top mid-majors for over 10 years (or so it seems). Obviously they know what they're doing down there....that, and they've always been well coached.---sheesh, they came up with the defense that basically ended DD's career at NT.
  5. Great post! Thank you, Coach Dickey! I will never forget the great experiences that the NO Bowl trips were. This is definitely a bittersweet day. I am happy that our administration appears ready and geared for success, but sad at how we reached this point.
  6. Oh, hell yes, I remember the BU stomping. I also remember the subsequent article (from I wanna say Kevin Sherrington?) to the tune of 'Big 12 Needs a Meaner Shade of Green'.....then I remember EA changing NCAA to allow for teams to jump conference after one good year. I did it....replaced TTech in the Big 12 after going 11-1. Those were the days....
  7. Let me just say that this topic started out decently, but has quickly hit the crapper. To all the lurkers out there....please do not believe, for even a second, that UNT doesn't value membership in the Sun Belt. It is the absolute best place for us....esp. when we were running roughshod through it. To those who think we should jump to the wac....wtf?! I guess it only takes a few years to forget the Big West. I don't remember hearing ANY dissenting opinions when we left the Big West. The wac now is the big west of old, plus Fresno and Hawaii. Whoopee doo.
  8. I wouldn't be so sure of that. Back in my student days, I used this board to successfully change an organization's opinion on a few subjects. A phone call can do more than you imagine. Also, don't be so sure that those in power don't care what you think. The ticket office may treat you like a turd (though I've never had a bad encounter with them to the contrary of reports I've read here of rudeness), but most groups on campus value the alumni....esp the alumni who care enough to place a call. Frankly, though...and this is a question for Harry...how would you even approach a conversation like this? I am kind of worried that you feel that our leadership needs to hear from us (fans and alumns) that something is wrong and must be corrected. It should be plain as day to them. Attendance is dropping like a rock, while our teams pile up loses. Honestly, this is part of their job that should be obvious.
  9. Couldn't have said it any better. Great post.
  10. Not sure what you mean, but Brewster has been on staff since the off-season. I think he's an assistant to Etheridge....but I'm with you, Brewster needs a dang promotion!
  11. Yes, but if history repeats itself it won't matter. 2001...MTSU--the perfect combination of sexy and brawny. DD goes balls out and we beat the best team in the conference. 2006...game 10--LaLa....ok....well, crap. But still. I'm intrigued. After reading a few other threads it sounds like Brewster coached that green team (I can confirm he was up in the press box for at least the entire first half). Brewster is a KEEPER. I want to do whatever it takes to keep him at North Texas. If it means keeping DD, so be it. If RV or any big shots happen to be reading....give Andy Brewster $$. Lots of money...or whatever he wants. Our football team stinks right now b/c we haven't replaced our key assistants along the way---or better, we let them get away. I realize we can't keep everyone here, but somewhere along the line we have to up their pay....at least make it respectable, please?
  12. Let me just say this, I thought I was watching a flashback to 2001 tonight. The Dickey that back then said, "to hell with it" and started playing younger guys and basically the guys that FOUGHT to win. He needs to start some of those dang guys on the 2nd (G-team?) team. Those lineman were pulling and hustling...they put bodies on people. You could feel their intensity just watching them. What the heck he was doing pulling them back out of the game, noone will ever know. I think DD wants to do things a certain way so badly that it sometimes hurts him and the team. He'll stick with seniors and upperclassmen even if it means losses. It's hard to argue against that b/c it's the honorable way to do things. But sometimes you have to just win the damn game....and that's when DD's style really grates on people. The only time we've seen him veer from that was before game 6 in 2001 and tonight....both times his back was against the wall with his job on the line. I want to see next week's game.
  13. Did you bother to read SE66's post?? Here's the part you missed: "He tries to change what he can and accept what he can't" Where in that do you derive taking a passivist approach to being a fan?? See, what happened between your first post and proclaimation that you were quitting, was that a "logical, critical discussion" occurred that you missed out on. Several days have passed and you've cooled down from the meltdown that must have occurred on Saturday night. Welcome back....but try not to preach to us that you're more intelligent than the rest of us.
  14. Nowhere in SE66's post did he mention 'unconditional acceptance.' Quitting is even easier. SE66, you have hit the nail on the head here. This is THE difference maker in this argument. People fight for things such as these....not quit on them.
  15. For the love of all things holy, someone send this to the chancellor, the president, RV,....shit...the whole galdarn administration....anyone who has ever purchased season tickets, donated time and money....this is a nut-kick and stomach punch all rolled into one....right at the time that I really couldn't take it. Enough. Oh....and for those who want to do a t-shirt or paper bag campaign at the last couple of home games, you have your slogan---"ENOUGH" E-N-O-U-G-H
  16. Yep, same thing happened to me in 2004. When I found myself wishing that some other team from the belt would win the conference in 2005 to excuse us from our inaugural drubbing on national tv. That's not the way any sane NT alumnus should feel. Have I missed a single home game since this realization? No. Will I ever post an 'I'm done' message on the board? No.
  17. I have to get in on this! You forgot to mention that everytime TBS showed crowd shots of the tech fans, they were ALWAYS yelling F-bombs. I noticed this sometime in the 3rd or 4th quarter and said something to my friends who were watching with me. What is the NEXT crowd shot? A couple of tech fans giving the bird---greatness. Maybe you had to be there? Oh, and I hate Mike Leach. Would I take Sonny Dykes here at UNT? In a heartbeat.
  18. Um....Bobby Ray cans RV? Bobby Ray gets ousted? Or the new pres just blames Dr. Pohl? Any way you slice it, I can't decode your message to mean that DD gets ousted....
  19. Agreed. I'm not sure what GEO and Emmitt are trying to do here recently....not knowing either one personally, I can't believe they're DONE. They've been around too long and been too passionate to be serious about quitting on NT now. Maybe they seriously believe in the power of the internet?....if enough die-hards threaten to quit, maybe RV has to take notice?... Nah. That's just dumb.
  20. When in the game did that play happen? On the drive to make it 23-10 or 29-10? Who knows if it would've mattered with the way we were tackling that night...
  21. Yes...I am not a fan of search committees. Too much politicking.
  22. Whoopee doo. #2 runs high and our team tried to tackle him high. You guys might be world beaters and all (yeah right! ), but you sure can't get a good read on it by how we play these days. I long for the days of hearing the pads 'pop' at Fouts field. We don't have a player on this team who will lower their shoulders and drive through ball carriers.
  23. I think our D made asu's running back look ALOT better than he really is. Almost every time he ran up the middle, we'd try to tackle him up above the waist. Never did I see our LBs or DBs get their pads low....they were content to just attempt a wrap-up---which doesn't work well. To me, that's the difference in this game. Our tackling is very poor.....VERY.
