I think you are missing a couple of things here. The seasons you reference were as a true freshman and RS freshman (which he gets to have again here). The positive way to look at it is that in his true freshman year, they had enough faith in him to bring him in an ACC game that they were trailing and he engineered two scoring drives before his injury. “Elliott was replaced in the second quarter by freshman Jace Ruder, who led North Carolina to a field goal and a touchdown on two drives before leaving with an injury. Elliott re-entered the game and finished with no touchdowns and three interceptions.” I think that is something to be optimistic about. I look at his high school numbers and scratch my head a bit as well. But we all know high school stats can be misleading. If high school stats drive rankings, Mason Fine would have been a 4-5 star recruit at Alabama or OU. Something - most likely his size, arm, and athleticism - earned him that rating and nine other P5 schools saw what they needed to see to offer.

Yes I definitely don’t like they way they score recruiting classes. More doesn’t equal better. I also tend to pay attention to average rating and we have been around 2nd in the conference for the last three years.

Plus, hs kids in the honors program can easily test out of most freshman requirements and start as a Sophomore academically.

Well I don’t know if we can say this guy will automatically start but he certainly is the top level type talent that would make this a good use of the few scholarships we have left. The four years of eligibility is just amazing. I would hate to lose anyone else in the QB room but if this guy can grab the starting job and hold on to it for three or four years, that would bring the stability we need to the offense. If that does happen I hope Seth does a better job of managing the backups to get more experience. Either way, this is the type of transfer we need to bring in. Either he will win the job or elevate the play of whoever does start.

Of course it happens. I just don’t want us to be the place to experiment. I think we can afford better. I do think he has some defensive coaching experience but the optics of hiring his son-in-law instead of an experienced Dline coach are not good.

If so, wasted scholarship if he isn’t top level talent that will almost automatically start. We already have two middle of the road transfers in Aune and Gilmore. Don’t need another.

This is such backward thinking. I don’t know - or care - how many SMUt fans come to Apogee. We need to quit worrying about opponents fans traveling to Denton. You know who SMU does get to come out to games? NORTH TEXAS FANS. And that is who we want at the games anyway.
