  1. The fans at Texas Tech began soaking the tortillas in water, then letting them harden in order to get more sailing distance with them. They did become quite dangerous and caused several injuries.Which is why they were outlawed there.
  2. Harry, I thought DI schools were only allowed 85 football scholarships and a total of 105 participants. Is this not correct ?
  3. I visted Washington DC this past summer and toured the memorials to the veterans and fighting men and women of Vietnam, WWII and Korea. When I asked why there is no memorial to the veterans of WWI , I was told that there is not enough of them still alive to finance one. Made me sick.
  4. Look at Texas Tech, their offense has enabled them to compete weekin and weekout with the traditional football powers. For a long time the UT's and A&M's,Colorado's, Nebraska's,etc. have been able to recruit quality depth. Tech has always had a few quality athletics ,but not the numbers . Now with their offense and specialized players they can compete,as a aside their sucess has lead to better recruits each year. Bobby Knight was discussing this the other day on TV, the perfect offense for the Raiders and their situation.
  5. Dalton Bell, a junior, is the WT QB, he is leading the nation in passing. The backup is Keith Null from Lampasas who was in the same class as Stickler UNT receiver. Null actully started one game and passed for close to 400 yds. WT will play the winner of the Pittsburg STate- Nebraska Kearney game in the 2nd round of the DII playoffs. Might also mention that Chad Webster ,a former UNT LB,gets a lot of playing time and actually lead the team in tackles one game.
  6. The former OU QB you mentioned is now playing at WTAMU, which at 10-1 is the number 1 rated team in the Southwest, he is paying as a backup TE and WR. By the way he is 6'4" and 240 lbs.
  7. The number is really not important, whether we bring in 3 or 13. It is the quality that counts. If they cannot contribute the first year, they are on campus ,it is a waste of a scholie. That sould have been given to a high school kid who has time to grow and develop. As for as what position we need JC players for , we just need players period ,you can always find a place for them.
  8. J. Thomas and Evan Robertson will be the running backs for UNT next year.
  9. A new stadium, by itself will not get UNT in a better conference. I don't believe any of the Big 12 schools have a new stadium, however many have been remoldled and added to. UNT must win games ,not just conference games. Attendance must improve dramatically, not just at football games , but basketball as well. The new athletic facilites are certainly a big plus and they do show a committment to athletics. It is a shame that we were not able to take advantage of the preseason pub. brought about by Cobb and Thomas.
  10. Norm just said UNt can't score, La.Tech 30-40 points.
  11. To estimate $$ intake at a home game shouldn't you include concessions, seat backs, parking and shirts, caps, etc. sold at the game ?
  12. Regardless of the opponent, the first game of the season will always draw a big crowd. Students returning to campus, new students ready to do the college thing, the community ready for football. Having the team beat down the first game ( money game ) away from home, then returning for the opening home game takes a lot of the luster off the first home game. It seems to me that opening at home with a winnable game would boost interest the whole season.
  13. It might be beneficial to the fan base to have some home games. Two home games in the first eight weeks of the season , and one of them on a tuesday. They were going to support the team, but to ask them to wait a month between home games is a little too much to ask. Getting fans in the habit of going to the games is a key to continued home fan support.
  14. Did not most posters on this website believe that Meager was the better QB during spring practice ? I believe so. Speaking of the SBC , did you see the quote from Mack Brown that after all the Sun Belt teams turned Texas down for their 12th game next season, they were forced to go with Sam Houston State . I know , I know UNT was already on the scheldue.
  15. Fieldhouse already completed. Forty-five thousand seats and restrooms, concessions, vistor's dressing rooms and alot of parking. $60 million a bargain. DISD stadium $23 million.
  16. CUSA pipe dream until : UNT can show it's football team can compete ( even though SMU got in without that, money talks ) A major basketball program is established, look at this year's nonconference scheldue ( men's ) DII and even DIII teams, way to build respect. Good fan base, look at this year's football scheldue two home games during the first two months of the season. What would the fan base look like if we had played three winnable games at home, ala Texas Tech?
  17. Best bet go to Amarillo.com ( this is the Amarillo Paper ) then then Talk Amarillo forums,WT. By the way former UNT linebacker Chad Webster led the Buffs in tackles Sat. night.
  18. Saturday night West Texas A&M University ( WT to us old timers ) drew 22,993 fans to their home game against Eastern New Mexico University. This is a new Lone Star Conference record , as well as a DII record crowd. WT stadium was built in 1958 and holds 20,000. The overflow sat on the grassy hills behind the end zones. As a side note WT is now 7-0.
  19. Looks like La.Monroe will be another tough game for the Mean Green. Thought about recruiting, the DMN listed the top area recruits and their college choices and interest this morning, not one mentioned UNT. Several players listed Tulsa, SMU and TCU. Disappointed ?
  20. If I remember correctly Fla. Atlantic had 46 seniors on last years squad. Not a bad recovery for basically a team starting over this year.
  21. This decision should and will be left entirely to the coaching staff. They see the performance of all the QB's in practice everyday and base playing time on those performances. We should hope that both ,or all the QB's, continue to improve and are ready when called on.
  22. Did anyone else catch the Fla. Atlantic- La. La. game last night ? Both very young, La. QB impressive looking freshman. They took an early lead and it seemed as if the game would be a blow out, however Fla. came back strong and won going away. Eleven of Fla. two deep defensive players are freshman including the whole def. line.
  23. I assume you are referring to the play action pass when we were close to the goal line at the north end of the field . If you recall for the the first time in the game Cobb and Thomas were both in the backfield,in a veer set. As the play developed both went to the left and DM bootlegged to the right to attempt the pass. I thought and still think this was a good plan on the part of the coaching staff. However, I also think , the play would have been much more effective if both Thomas and Cobb had been in the backfield prior to that and we had shown some ability to run the ball out of that formation. quote=Hunter Green,Oct 5 2005, 09:28 PM] Hopefully, my comments/criticisms of DD/Ramon will be taken as constructive. First off, J-Mo should be getting most of the reps at TB. He is clearly the better runner, although, I love PC. Secondly, J. Quinn should be running the deep routes, NOT Muzzy. Zack is too small for those type of routes. (i.e., the interception that was taken out of his hands, and the numerous tipped passes intended for him. Zack should be used for the quick screens and slant routes. Third, PLEASE! When we are in obvious passing situations, STOP with the play action! No one falls and it and it puts too much pressure on Meager. Make it easier on him by putting him in the shotgun. Lastly, give the back-up QB's some reps. Sometimes players can learn better when they sit a while. And for those un-sportsman like conduct penalties, RUN THEIR BUTTS OFF after practice. Nothing like a few gassers to adjust ones' attitude. My 2 cents...out. ←
  24. TSU Texas Southern University ? Tarleton State University ? Texas State University ? On a serious note Jim Wacker tried to persude TSU ( then SWTSU ) to try to move to DI when he was AD shortly before his death. There was no interest in that Universitie's community , lack of a fan base made this quest only a pipe dream. What is their avg. attendance ? The games I have attended there may have drawn 6,000.
  25. Are we recruiting Craig James's son ? Would you prefer Sammy Smith to announce the game ?
