  1. Looking at the C-USA homepage, one would expect to see some mention of the historic post-season runs from Charlotte, UAB, FAU, and, of course, ourselves. Instead, what do you see featured on their homepage? The beach volleyball pair of the week. Gott in himmel! https://conferenceusa.com/
  2. Some really good photos of the game here: https://www.kenoshanews.com/sports/college/3-things-that-stood-out-from-wisconsin-mens-basketballs-nit-semifinal-loss/article_4993f85e-99ba-5aa0-8d2e-3da1324d2af9.html
  3. Goodness, gracious. What a game!!!!
  4. Basketball coaches were about the last ones to wear coats and ties to their games but I have not seen a coach in a tie for several years now. Football coaches abandoned suits many years ago.
  5. A really great game. A day or so ago, one of the knuckleheads on Sirius XM said that Tennessee would "knock FAU's heads off". Ha!
  6. The Casino Royale on the Strip has, or at least they used to, twenty-five cents craps tables. Other than watching the Mean Green open a can of whoop-ass on our opponent, I can think of no better way to spend an evening in Las Vegas.
  7. They really need to add some black.
  8. Chris @holeintherug Replying to @gocoogs1 The only people that care about SMU are North Texas fans _______________________________________________________________ Truer words were never spoken!
  9. He is spot on, but I am afraid this will fall on deaf ears. I do recognize the irony in that this communique came from the same man who coined the term "Power Six"!
  10. This is pretty funny! I suspect this rivalry has been going on for a very long time.
  11. First thing I thought. Not to mention the East Carolina appropriation. I remember how we felt when Michigan State started calling itself the Mean Green.
  12. Can't help here. In my day (71-75), we always called Ranchman's "The Ponder Steak House" and looking at their Facebook page, they call themselves, "Ranchman's The Ponder Steakhouse". But, I do agree it will not be the same unless you have to call ahead to reserve your baked potato!
  13. There was nothing that said "Texas" more to this immigrant from Virginia than the Ponder Steak House, aka Ranchman's Cafe. https://www.star-telegram.com/entertainment/restaurants/eats-beat/article272545303.html?utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook&fbclid=IwAR0zHRELQjbL7_z3M0OWOJ5xNo0Gni24mznR6jtyTB_EWcA-MgsR7EeWsOQ
  14. While posting about the away games, I hope the tradition of a UNT tent at tailgating will return. This was common in the RV days and for those of us that do not live in Denton, it was a great way to meet other fans, especially those on GMG.com
  15. I ended up at the Hilton Garden Inn on Truman Parkway which is about 4 miles away from the stadium. With my senior discount, it was 342/night. As you say, there are less expensive options if you are willing to drive an hour or so. Hope to see you there!
  16. I just tried to book a room at the Annapolis Mariott for the game but the rate was $948 per night!
  17. There are many good suggestions to be found in this thread. Winning constantly will help but not completely cure the problem. There is also the issue of declining attendance across all of football, even the big boys. I can go to any UNT away game and see nothing but empty seats...MTSU, Charlotte, ODU, etc. I will agree with NorthTexasWeLove on one thing, it seems that UNT almost has an open admission policy. Last I saw, the admissions rate was about 85%. When a decision to attend any given university is made due to convenience and ease, rather than desire and hard work, the student body is bound to be less than enthusiastic about campus life, no matter sports, cultural events, or whatever else. My wife has worked at Duke for 25+ years and I sometimes enjoy attending one of their football games. In years past, they would average paid attendance at around 15K. Actual attendance was much less. You may enjoy taking a look at what they did to increase attendance from 15K to 24.5K in one year. https://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2022/12/duke-football-mike-elko-wallace-wade-stadium-tailgate-marketing-culture#:~:text=Resoundingly%2C yes.,leaping to 24%2C505 from 15%2C424.
  18. If this does come to fruition, wouldn't it be appropriate to just congratulate SMU and move on?
  19. Yes, it was common in those days to wear a necktie to a game, especially at the eastern schools. β€œGuys in ties, girls in pearls” as we used to say in Virginia.
  20. EZU as we used to call them. The one big thing they have going for them is fan support. There is literally nothing to do, related to sports, in eastern Carolina and the entire region has embraced the Pirates. The first time I lived in North Carolina was following my graduation from North Texas in 1975. I was posted to an Air Force base in nearby Goldsboro and dated a young lady who was a student at East Carolina. We attended some football games and while their stadium seated 35,000, it was hard to find tickets. This was all the more impressive as ECU was not playing major college football at that time, Now, their stadium seats 50,000 and is often sold-out, especially when they are playing other North Carolina universities.
