  1. There once was a team called Mean Green Whose play could be very serene. Their coach said aloud, as he spoke to a crowd These losses are getting obscene.
  2. Yes, they are affiliated with the Methodist Church and also host a distinguished divinity school. At the risk of sounding like a KIA, Wake Forest is very much a Baptist university rather than Presbyterian.
  3. Like Duke? Their football stadium used to have the nickname, Methodist Flats!
  4. That is excellent, but is any better or worse during RV's tenure or his predecessors?
  5. Granted, his men's BB hire is doing great things, but what other sports are we really excelling in? How many conference championships did we win last year?
  6. There once was a coach from old Denton Whose check was well over one million He said with a grin, As he cashed it again... I’ll be back after this season.
  7. Moore had only one losing season during his entire tenure at App St. That's pretty remarkable. For some trivia, Moore is the only North Texas head coach that was not fired since Fry's departure. He left us after two seasons with a .500 record to take Tech's head job.
  8. We own East Texas State, 19-6-1. Bring them on and recall our glory days from the Lone Star Conference.
  9. Mooney is a great asset to the team. A reliable kicker is not always a given at North Texas.
  10. When outside of Texas and the surrounding area, when someone asks you where you went to school, do not tell them UNT unless you want to spend your next few sentences explaining what that means.
  11. You have ten years on me but our pain is shared. And you are correct, our program is cursed, and while I would like to see improvements, there are no great expectations. Still, we are both here and wanting the best for our program. After the departure of former conference mates Houston and Memphis (!!), the AAC may not be so bad for us. As you say, there will be plenty of teams at our level so while we will not necessarily be at the top, we also should not be at the bottom every year.
  12. On the CBS broadcast last night, the commentator said each SMU player was receiving at least 36,000.
  13. Serious question. What members of the press attend these events other than Brett and someone from the Campus Chat North Texas Daily?
  14. Speaking of student loan forgiveness, the NY Times published a very interesting article concerning the salaries of college graduates after a specific number of years. What a study found is that a great many grads do not make as much as the average high school graduate (28,000). If you download the spreadsheet, you will see that about 75% of UNT grads make more than a HS grad. This is somewhat lower than our peer institutions like Houston and Tech and a great deal lower than schools like UT, SMU, and A&M. If there is an upside, we are in good company. There are many schools, well-known and not so well-known, doing much worse. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/20/your-money/college-graduate-earnings.html?fbclid=IwAR0G1Ldz7fJyG84WcFC-dt6MXtsg2VsUDHKBX37-fHkLAbm9sTl5l1paAvM
  15. I am usually reluctant to criticize things like this, but that is a poorly written announcement. If we are going to competeat with other universities, we need to do more better.
  16. This is such a typical North Texas decision. We do one thing better than any other university in the world and this is our jazz studies program. But now, rather than showcase this success, we decide to change formats to indie music? How many of these stations already exist in DFW? Here in Durham, NC Central University manages to run a very successful jazz station. And we cannot? If this indie format does not work, we can always try "easy listening". People my age like that very much.
  17. They seem to average about 16K per game, reported. There were more than plenty of empty seats when I attended their game with us. They do have a nice stadium as it is, it is just very small,
  18. I used to live in Montgomery many years ago and people there would often say, "if it wasn't for Mississippi, we'd be last."
  19. So get ready for the people who have the most money to get the best COACHES and there you have it.
