  1. Well if it's considered compensation and a value is determined then I would think a "benefits" package would be taxable although I am not sure. Perhaps some one who does could chime in.
  2. Well the university would need to pay them like employees , which would entitle them to employee benefits. The NIL has nothing to do with it. Their remuneration could be is the form of a salary or additional benefits such as tuition, meals, and housing, which would be assigned a monetary value. They also would be entitled to Workman's Compensation so if they were injured they could file a claim. This new world is a real can of worms but eventually will work itself out although we might not like the ending.
  3. The new school, such as TT, would buy coach Mac out of his contract as will all universities of note. UNT paid North Carolina of Somewhere $100,000 to buy their women's basketball coach Karen Ashton out and she lasted one year before bolting to Texas. I feel safe in saying Texas bought her contract out and we got our money back and maybe even a little more. She eventually was fired because she could never compete with Baylor and is now at UTSA. If you want to put players under contract you would need to treat them as employees with the same benefits you provide all other employees. In summary, we are in violent agreement that the system is broken until it isn't and Chandler Rogers lands in our lap. I think in the near future the Power conferences such as Big 10 and SEC will spin off and do their own thing leaving the Group of whatever number to put their own division together leaving 1AA programs alone. In the meantime we are stuck in NIL/Transfer Portal Hell.
  4. Legally the NCAA lost in court and can do nothing. All the players are doing is following the example set by the coaches. I didn't see much if any criticism of coach Mac heading to TT for more money so why are a few of you blasting the players for doing the same. Amateur college sports as we know it is dead. We need to accept it and move on but to continue to bash players who played for us and then entered the portal is childish.
  5. I have watched quite a bit of men's basketball recently, including the NIT. It makes me realize just how good last years team really was.
  6. What surprised about his firing is that their wasn't much of an explanation that I saw in the DMN. When Coach Jake was terminated 2 years ago by SMU I remember more than a few articles.
  7. OPPS. I misread the braket
  8. I think that 3rd round is in Indianapolis.
  9. I tried an anger management therapy seminar back in the day. It really pissed me off when I got the bill.
  10. I think its " all or none " regarding MWC members moving to the PAC 2
  11. I don't think I have ever seen a game where the refs let the big boys continue to bang each other with calling a foul . The 275 lb. NCS center got away with murder.
  12. SMU lost 6 of last 7 games. Not exactly the momentum you are looking for going into the ACC.
  13. On another note, Karen Aston, former UNT and Texas women's head basketball coach, finely has UTSA's program in good shape. Future games between our Eagles and the Roadrunners should be fun to watch.
  14. I meant who is Perry hiding behind.
  15. You must live a sheltered life.Who are you hiding behind? If you step up the latter in competition you are trying to make your life better. In the real world if you don't take care of yourself no one else is.
  16. So athletics want to compete at the highest level that they can. Others just want to stay in their comfort zone. You must really love those guys.
  17. He had a chance to play in the Big 12, one of the best if not the best men's basketball conference and he took it.
  18. Why are players who transfer from UNT " cowards "but those who transfer to North Texas are not? You seem to want it both ways.
  19. Didn't they have a star player who was declared ineligible at the last minute?
  20. This is the old NIT, not the new one that the NCAA owns, correct?
  21. So UAB and USF in the NCAA, SMU and USF PROJECTED to receive NIT bids.
