TJ Taylor (Release from Marquette)
MeanGreenTexan replied to Cooley's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Devils advocate: "Hey <recruit X>, coach Benford can't really be trusted to nurture your talent. Did you know he cut one of the best JUCO forwards in the nation from his team? The player played on the French National Team for crying out loud, and coach Benford didn't feel he was good enough for his team because he had another kid he liked better. He may do the same thing to you if someone else he likes comes along. You just cant trust him. Come play for me at <XYZ school> because we honor our committments and we know you're special." Actually, that comment would probably be geared more towards the parents. Remember, you're talking around 6 figures worth of money over a 4-5 year span. That is VERY serious money. Parents will relate to this argument more than a teenager who thinks he can beat anyone... and if Tony Mitchell's mom has taught us anything (thankfully!), it's that parents have significant say-so in where their sons wind up. I'm not saying definitely don't do this... I'm just saying tread VERY lightly when considering this option. -
TJ Taylor (Release from Marquette)
MeanGreenTexan replied to Cooley's topic in Mean Green Basketball
OK folks, here's your chance to play Mean Green Basketball GM!!!!! Please keep in mind that when you kick one of these guys to the curb, you are taking away around $20K and their ability to attend the finest University in Texas. Sounds like some of you couldn't care less. http://www.meangreen...=564&SPSID=9109 I see 1, maybe 2, names that I would even consider dropping for this guy who appears to be extremely unreliable when it comes to sticking with a school... however talented he may be. He's a risk, and we have a pretty stacked lineup as it is. So, who's it gonna be? Surely you guys have targeted a player to boot? ... there's always a chance that Benford can convince TJ to walk on here with a promise of taking Tony's scholarship when he goes to the NBA next season. If he can, that would be the ideal scenario, but that's gonna be alot of money out of TJ's pocket this year. Otherwise, you're playing chicken with the future when every college coach will tell our shared recruits, "Did you know Benford kicked so-&-so off the team? He was a really good player! Did you know he was on the Texas top 100/JUCO top 100 list, just like you? You can't trust him." -
UH chooses North Texas' Stadium Construction Firm

Me too. Wonder how much credit he gets for the Charn or Voertman's contributions? Seems like Mr. Voertman was going to give regardless, and I believe I read that it was President Rawlins that flew to SE Asia to meet with Charn.- 45 replies

For sure. Or the big money schools would have a coach for every player. -
2013 LB Marcos Curry (5-11, 200) Round Rock, TX
MeanGreenTexan replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Zach Orr is 6'0" - 231. One inch taller, and 30 15 lbs heavier (and that's after 3 years of NCAA strength training). If he can play, he'll be able to overcome the size. EDIT: changed weight from original 200lb to 215lb comparison between him and Orr, for a mere 15lb difference. -

Dear Clarke Overlander, You're a super smart guy, and I'm so glad you're here. I'm looking forward to watching you rain down 3's on C-USA competition for years to come. Could you pretty-please accept an academic scholarship so that your athletic scholarship could be freed-up for Mr. Taylor? Thanks alot! -MeanGreenTexan- 110 replies

UH chooses North Texas' Stadium Construction Firm
MeanGreenTexan replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Cool, so about $95 - 100 mil to build after demo (I must admit I'm clueless when it comes to demolition/construction costs). Do you guys have a target for capacity? Apogee currently holds 31,500. I'm sure you guys will go higher than that.- 45 replies

Sun Belt commissioner: Blue Raiders 'flagship' of conference

Yep. I don't find this offensive at all. They've either won, or finished second for the past umpteen years for the Bubas Cup. -

Does that include demolition and removal of Robertson? If so, you may be looking at a budget very similar to ours. We were able to start out with a blank piece of land.- 45 replies

Wide Receiver Roderick Lancaster Injured
MeanGreenTexan replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't know Roderick's financial situation, but I do know that he came from Oak Cliff Life School. Usually folks in Oak Cliff (non-Kessler Park residents) are not financially stable enough to tote a semester's worth of education out of pocket. Just redshirt him and keep him on scholarship. I have a feeling Roderick will pay off in the future. -

Coach Benford will be on The Ticket today
MeanGreenTexan replied to KoldBeer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Heck yeah! I'd listen. But I bet there are more NASCAR fans who listen to Race Week than would listen to a UNT show. Does SMU or TCU have their own shows on 104.1, 103.3, or 105.3? Win at football and/or basketball consistently, and maybe the interest would be there. -

MeanGreenTexan replied to KoldBeer's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I hear Jub talking up UNT as much as possible. The VERY SAD reality is... other than the people on this message board, and maybe a handful of others, no one wants to hear about UNT athletics. If there were long stretches of UNT athletics talk, UT-T-shirt-fan-guy would turn the channel, and they don't want that... Why are you "angered deeply"? Would you rather they not talk to Benford at all? -

So this team is starting to actually take shape. Too bad the first half of the season will be lost with all these new faces trying to learn to play with one another. Yet the team is still talented enough to back into the playoffs as a 7-8 seed. I like Mayo. I wouldn't mind bringing in Calderon in case Collison doesn't work out. -
Hope to hear some updates from Cooley & NT03.

Sun Belt poll, all-conference team out
MeanGreenTexan replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
This isn't the coaches poll that you see every week during the season. With that poll, the coach has to assess the entire FBS and rank accordingly, during the season, when they have other things to do. So yes, they have GA's fill those out. This is the SBC-conference-only poll that all coaches are asked to fill out one time, before the season starts. I'm willing to bet coach McCarney and the other HC's filled these out. -
Sun Belt poll, all-conference team out
MeanGreenTexan replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Not "just someone's" opinion... All of the SBC coaches. Nice to know they will all be overlooking us. Unless he's injured again this year, Zach Orr will be on the 1st team post-season all-conference list, if not defensive MVP.
