  1. He's having a field day with this. So great to see him having such a good time with it.
  2. $63k? Is that what we're going to be paying the next guy too? Ugh. Looks like we'll have a new CB's coach every year until we have one that is so awful that a program like Memphis doesn't even want him. Wish we had the funds to keep you around coach Walters. Can't blame you one bit sir. Do us all a favor and either give Dickey a great big hug, or just kick him straight in the nuts. You can only do one or the other though.
  3. You think Bogenshultz is going to start as a true Freshman down there?
  4. Sounds like coach McCarney thinks coach Joseph is that guy (to take over for Skladany).
  5. Dang. That's a lateral move at best. Memphis football is awful and their HC is an offensive guy. Wonder if the pay amount was a deciding factor? Oh well. Best of luck to coach Walters and best of luck in Memphis.
  6. I think people are discounting Byrd a little too much. He'll be missed, but I think Pegram will step up.
  7. I remember walking out of Ford thinking maybe the OU game was just a blip on the radar for a new coach and that we'd be OK... boy was I wrong.
  8. This is more SUMG's territory, but: He's SO old, he guided a group of rag-tag, philandering, disinterested, injured, street-balling Athenians to a monumental defeat of Macedonia A&M.
  9. Ah, I read too much into it and thought you may be questioning his crusty old ways in today's mad-substituting world. Dude is old though. I guess old works, just look what's going on at Moody.
  10. A blowout will only be possible if our defense comes back just as strong or stronger than last year, and we get a QB that can move the ball. Both unknowns right now. He should come out, because it could actually be a pretty close loss for the ponies.
  11. So you're saying his flint spear and selection of say a 5-man team to ambush the mammoth would not work against an Owl, Bulldog, Golden Eagle? I think it would do better than Mr Benford's methods of aimlessly passing the spear for 20 seconds before stabbing & then substituting the animal to death. Of course, neither would work as well as an AK-47, but apparently we cannot afford one of those.
  12. I don't know if his affiliation with coach Benford would cause him to decline the offer, or cause any kind of change really, but I believe coach Evans would be able to step up and take over. He can certainly point to skins on the wall.
  13. Did I mention the LaTech fans have been on the block much longer and know how to understand the ebbs & flows of NCAA football? I don't think they would consider a regular season game against UNT as their Super Bowl and troll GMG.com for any mention of their school.
  14. I think it's safe to say there's not a more dedicated UNT b-ball fan on this board. If CMJ is disinterested... not good.
  15. I nominate our best player. We have a tradition to keep up around here.
  16. I recollect a bit where there was an additional question asked after this one every time, because the answer to this question was a given... but now, this is actually the legitimate question, and stands alone.
  17. I don't know when the serious work starts on the I-35 expansion project, but if it's "hard" to drive up to Denton now, wait until that project gets into full swing.
  18. To me, a rival is one that develops when 2 teams are on the same level (unfortunately, right now UNT & UTSA are) and continues even if one school excels while the other falls off. I don't know that if/when UTSA falls off, that people will feel anything towards UTSA. People are mad now because we lost to them when we shouldn't have. I think most here (and all of the players) consider that game one the Mean Green should have won. What if by some crazy miracle UTEP plays lights out and goes 8-4 with a win over UNT? Do they become just as hated as UTSA? Moreso? They're in Texas too... We're going after alot of the same recruits... What's the difference? Is there a difference?
  19. Give me reputation/results/perception/whatever-you-want-to-call-it over potential. SoMiss & LATech fit the reputation. UTSA fits the potential. Ruston is pretty darn close to Denton. And you know what, the recruiting hotbed between each school out in East Texas is one that has yielded some VERY nice recruits for us lately... the same place LATech is hitting pretty hard as well. I'd say the recruiting stakes are pretty high between UNT & LATech. The fact that UTSA is in Texas does not quite do it for me. Edit: Only problem - UNT whipped LATech hard last year, so no rivalry could start.
  20. I think there is a huge difference between what should be apathy from our fan base about facing UTSA (I'm as excited about playing UTSA as I am about Nicholls St), and "hating" them because they beat us. If people hate UTSA because they beat us, that means they're stoking a rivalry. That's fine. Different strokes for different folks. Myself, I hope that feeling is temporary. I think most can agree, that game was the most disappointing of the season. If we would have lost to Rice by the same score and beat UTSA by the Rice score, I would feel more vengeful about the Rice game coming up. I agree that we want them to be competitive because it makes the conference look better, but we can say the same thing about UTEP (poor UTEP, no one wants to be their rival). And we SHOULD be saying it moreso about LATech and SoMiss: 2 schools that have been ranked in the AP top 25 in the very recent past. The sooner those 2 get back in the saddle and become competitive, the better our conference will be. UTSA really isn't all that important in the grand scheme.
  21. I read it that way at first as well, but then I re-read, and he qualified it with "and it has produced"... not necessarily that coach Mac produced Casey, but that the walk-on program produced Casey.
  22. Fast forward 15 years to 2029. Say things are very close to the way they are now as far as NCAA & conferences, except UNT has moved up to a conference like the AAC and are playing a bowl game at the Cotton Bowl against a stout FAU team from C-USA. Do you think that game would have more to it than the game we're going to be playing against them at Apogee this year? Bowl games are going to carry more sway. That's just the way it is.
