Boy, if there is any university in America that needs a new stadium it is FIU. We went to the game down there last Fall and were amazed by the poor quality of their stadium. We had heard it was bad but had to be there to fully understand. Anybody that wants to grumble about Fouts Field needs to go down there and take a look at what they play in. When we go back there in 2007 the Orange Bowl would be a huge improvement.

If we really want this young man I hope Coach Dickey will arrange for AA to visit with him and tell him how nice it was to play two sports at North Texas.

They did both things. Last year the fans were not allowed to attend Coach Dickey's press conference to talk about the new recruits. NCAA regulations were stated as the reason for that. Rick V then scheduled a preview tour of the new athletic facility as the press conference was going on. Following that Coach Dickey stayed and did the same type presentation for fans. I thought it worked out great. Later in the Spring the coaching staff showed vidio and talked about each of the recruits following a Saturday scrimmage. That was a good deal, too. If they have the signing day activity again this year I will be unable to attend. Our curriculum director apparently does not know it is National Signing Day and has scheduled a meeting that I just cannot avoid. What a jerk.....

This should come as no real surprise. UTEP was his first choice all along. I think the commitment to Tx State - San Marcos was an insurance policy in case something changed out west.

In addition to the search committ, the President of the Board of Regents is a North Texas graduate as are some other members of the Board. North Texas exes will be heavily involved in deciding the name of our next President.

I work with the aunt of Trevor Vitatoe. After reading the start of this thread earlier in the day I asked her if he had heard from North Texas. She sent him a text message. He replied that he has not heard from North Texas. He is going to UTEP on an official visit the weekend of January 21st.

A year ago lots of Penn State fans were saying that Joe Paterno was too old, had lost touch with the game, etc. They were foaming at the mouth and wanting him OUT of Happy Valley. My, how things change. I remember Jerry Moore when he was at North Texas. I felt like he took the best talent the school ever had and found a way to go .500 with it. He is a good guy and I am glad that he has found his niche in the world at Appalachian State.

I am a former coach who is now a principal. The point that Buff 64 made was a good one. Most people don't realize that coaches (head coaches and assistants) work several more days than do our teachers who do not coach. That figures into their compensation package. I don't regret what we pay our coaches. They earn every nickle of it. I just wish we could pay our classroom teachers more. They deserve more, too.

The game tonight between Texas and USC will have to be an absolute gem to live up to all the hype that has gone before it. It will also have a tough time matching the games of the last two nights (West Virginia Vs Georgia and Florida State Vs Penn State). Those two games were wonderful. I agree that this has been one of the best bowl series in several years.

When I talked to Rick V in Florida in October he said that they were trying to work a deal with Rice but that nothing was set in stone. I agree that New Mexico State would be a good game for us, but both teams have to agree. We have had some great games with New Mexico State but we always won those games. If I were New Mexico State I sure wouldn't schedule North Texas. My hope is that we schedule a 1AA team that we can whip up on to come to Denton just like Texas, Texas Tech, Kansas State, etc are currently doing with Sun Belt and MAC teams. It probably won't happen, but that is my hope.

Having the game away from New Orleans had to hurt ticket sales, too. Lafayett is a great place, but there is only one New Orleans. I sure hope the game is able to be played there next year. I agree with Arkstfan. This game will continue.

Congratulations, Debbie. Graduation day is one of the best days of your life. Be sure to come over to the reception at the Gateway Center after graduation. My wife and I will be among several Tarrant County exes that will be hosts/hostesses for that event. There are some nice refreshments and an opportunity to take pictures. There is a goody bag for everyone and an opportunity to join the North Texas Exes.

I may be the only guy on this board who feels this way, but I am delighted that the Superdome will be repaired and updated. I would rather my tax dollars go to fixing up New Orleans than fixing up Baghdad. There will be some construction firms that make a bunch of money on this project, but that is no different from what happens day in and day out all over the world. I just hope the Superdome is in great shape when we go back there for the New Orleans Bowl next year.

Vic Trilli was also heralded as a great recruiter and we all know how that turned out.

The Ft. Worth Star-Telegram has reported that La Monroe will take the place of Troy on the Texas Aggies schedule for 2006.

Let's follow the lead of Texas Tech, Kansas State, etc and bring in a lower level school that we can beat up on.

It is still dry in Azle just before 9:00 but people coming from the Aledo area say that it is getting bad in that area. We got the word a few minutes ago that Aledo was turning out school early today.

A team with a 6-5 record that does not win its conference is about as deserving of the opportunity to go to a bowl game as the eighth place team in a twelve team conference. Unless a BCS school really screws up they are going bowling.

I talked to Baz mom after the game on Saturday. She is a neat lady. I had visited with her on some trips to away games. She had tears in her eyes because his North Texas career was over but promised to be in Denton for every home game next year. I'll bet she keeps her promise, too.

All lthe TV stations in the area have reported his death late Thursday afternoon. This one hits home for my family because this is the same job that our son-in-law has with the Carrollton Police Department. His title is Marshall but the job is the same - go out and arrest people.

I have always believed that Ken Hatfield was a class act. Rice may find a coach who will win more games but they will not find anyone to better represent their university. Sometimes bad things happen to good people.

Coach Hatfield is one Hell of a football coach. He has done a good job at a school where it is tough to have success. Rice will really miss him. I have always thought he was a class act. He will be tough to replace.
