I saw many people on here receive tons of downvotes for saying this was a bad hire and they didn't like it. People who were saying he was good got a ton of upvotes. I wonder who was right?

Makes you wonder. Was the team winning because of talent alone? Could different coaches have gotten more out of them? Seeing the product we have on the field once all that talent left makes me wonder. We questioned Guyton after he left and didn't come back to use his one year of remaining eligibility. Maybe he knew the coaching was crap and wanted to get out while he could to getting better training and coaching to prepare for the NFL. Once all that talent left we have not won more than 4 games despite bringing in higher ranked recruiting classes. We get transfers that went to P5 schools out of high school and they come here only to be complete non factors (McCrae and Nick Harvey). Again is it lack of talent or coaching? Looking more and more like coaching.

Then SL hires a guy from KS who had been demoted to coaching safeties or corners and thinks that somehow making him the DC and paying him $350K a year is going to fix the defense. Someone please make it make sense. SL must be the world's greatest salesman to sell that con job to WB, NS, and BOR.

Agreed. It is almost as if SL and WB are a couple of Oklahoma boys that are fleecing North Texas for as much money as they can while the gettin is good. The President and BOR need to step in make some tough decisions. They need to put some heat on WB and SL. Scratch that. They need to put volcanic fire underneath both of them. Bowen should be gone and SL should not have a say in it. Hell the majority of the defensive staff needs to go. Running backs and O-Line may be the only spots that may have some upside. I would definitely keep PC because his running backs do as much as they can. We need to hire coaches who actually care about North Texas like he does, but can also recruit.

I really don't think the players on defense are that bad. I think the DC is that bad. The players may not be great, but they are better than the way they play. The coach continues to put them in bad situations. He does not adjust the defense to what his players can do, he forces them to do what he wants them to do. When I heard the announcers say that the App State coach called App State's offense, App State's offense because he adjusted the offense to fit his players. All I could think of is why do we not adjust to what our players can do. That's what good coaching looks like. I believe that we have talented players, we just have bad coaching. I saw someone earlier say we wonder why transfers don't come here. They don't come because they want a coaching staff to make them better not make them look worse. Just my opinion.

I never knew that when I was stationed at Fort Campbell. I always thought Hoptown was just a place that Soldiers avoided so as not to get into fights with the locals. Didn't know they had basketball talent like that.

I'm not too worried about this game. I got the feeling that GM was just scrimmaging. He wants to see what he has with all the newcomers. I expect us to perform well beyond what we did tonight.

I stand corrected. Still no excuse for us to let them score 49 points like they are world beaters.

We were 3-3 and UTSA was 6-2. That is two games more than us not 4. Rice was about 1-1 and played us tougher than we played UTSA.

Zach plays too soft. He needs to give that string bean the Mark Aguirre booty bump and back his skinny butt down.

It's not just Bowen. You have to consider that SL made the hire. He seems to keep hiring people that Mangini liked. Stop hiring friends out of loyalty and hire football coaches.

We have a real coach there because he doesn't make it obvious that he is using us as a stepping stone to something bigger and better. It was obvious early that SL's heart was not here. He just needed HC experience to get that OU job. Well, that is out now. He will be lucky if he gets another HC opportunity in the near future.

I can agree with that. However, I have never liked HCs that call their own plays. They are not aggressive enough because they are worried about putting the defense in a bad position.

Yes I know, but when you are the HC you have to do more than call plays.

I wanted SL to be good, but he is strictly an OC. He is not HC material.

I thought last year that this team quit on SL. I am convinced of it now.

I would rather see what Kason Martin can do. At this point in the season, he could not do worse.
