  1. Stop worrying about a conference-mate being overrated. The perception of our conference is what matters. If FAU is overrated, fine. As long as it translates to our conference being overrated to the tune of 2-3 bids yearly, I don't care. We need somebody to have a deep tourney run or two.
  2. Doesn't change for me. We can go out in first round and he transfer anywhere and I'd be fine with it. Thanks for the memories. There were great moments. Wish there'd been a few more in March but it is what it is. Best of luck. Never forget about North Texas. I've been downvoted plenty for this position when football players transfer out. Do what's best for you. Apparently this philosophy is one of the many things wrong with my generation.
  3. Who cares. If FAU goes on a run and develops into the new UH (huge stretch), we'll benefit as long as we keep challenging them in conference play. Can't keep being content with 1 bid conferences. I doubt Big 10 members are mad they get 9 bids seemingly every year.
  4. I didn't take the "mini-rant" in any type of negative way. I enjoy the UNT related conversations here or I wouldn't be here. McCasland has done such a great job at reloading yearly that I'm really not worried about anybody leaving. Under McCasland, we've seen many of our top players leave, or in the case of Smart mysteriously drop off, and the program has done nothing but get better. We'll be fine regardless no matter who leaves. I trust McCasland.
  5. Got the CBS sports update https://247sports.com/Article/Jaylen-Washington-Lake-Highlands-commit-North-Texas-Mean-Green--204446094/
  6. I don't fault any player for transferring. I've often been downvoted here for defending players who transfer. No matter the reason, it's a personal decision that should be respected. My comment was purely looking at things from a competitive standpoint. Sure, all 3 of them had the opportunity to compete at great schools in very rich basketball conferences. I'd imagine they thought they'd experience a bit more success. Maybe not. Maybe, like you said, they accomplished a personal goal and lifelong dream. Regardless, it's none of my business. From a purely basketball standpoint, I'm sure they also always dreamed of playing in the NCAA tournament. Reese and McBride accomplished that goal at UNT. Gibson accomplished it at OU. He could have accomplished it at UNT had he stayed but he didn't and that's fine. I just want these basketball players to know thanks to them, UNT basketball has arrived. The rise hasn't stopped. They can accomplish almost anything they want from a basketball standpoint right here in Denton. For Perry, his dream was to play at UNT. He accomplished that. I'm sure he wants to play the NCAA tournament and he can do that UNT.
  7. Umoja Gibson is another recent good one. Spent two seasons at OU and is now on a losing DePaul squad. If his career ends with a conference tourney loss, he will have left UNT to go to high majors and ended up with as many NCAA tournament wins as if he'd just stayed here. And UNT has better post season prospects than DePaul this season. Grass ain't always greener.
  8. I agree it's a longshot. From what I've read, several programs have been trying to leave. Like @Green Otakusaid, once they pay the $100 mllion plus to leave, they then have to fight to get the media money for their own games until 2036.
  9. You bring up some great points on the behind the scenes financial side. If this happens it'll be really interesting to see what happens the with college football playoffs with the top 6 conference champions getting the auto bid. Obviously they'll change it as soon as possible to cater to the new super conference. Will be interesting.
  10. Still matters for the NIT seeding. Regarding the auto bid, I think our seeding would still be at play as well. FAU is a 9 or 10 if they get the auto bid but I'd guess we'd be 12 or 13 looking at the other projected mid-major auto bids.
  11. Potential impact on our postseason tonight with SJSU getting a Quad 1 win against Boise State. If they can knock off Colorado State and Air Force to close out the season, they should finish the season in the top 100 giving us another Quad 2 win we desperately need.
  12. Everybody loves a good underdog story. Everybody also loves for their program to get a chance at glory. College football has become stale for me. Judging by their viewership, I'm not the only one. There's only so much you can watch Alabama - Clemson or Alabama - Georgia before you get bored.
  13. I'd like to think the powers will realize doing so will only cut their viewership and earnings over time. There's an article from 2011 that speculated why March Madness generated more TV viewership than the NBA playoffs. Upsets is one of the reasons identified for the better viewership. I'd simplify that and say more fanbases can watch their teams make a run as opposed to the NBA which is set in 28 unique markets. Outside of the few markets that make the playoffs, people may not tune in unless they're a hard-core NBA fan. College basketball is different in that 68 universities, and fanbases, will get a shot every year and no spot is ever guaranteed. College football will die if you only get the same 10 to 15 teams in the playoff hunt every year. You can't grow if it's the same fans tuning in for their teams while fans of the other 100 FBS programs ignore college football after the regular season. Think about where the NFL would be if it were still the same few franchises stockpiling talent with no salary cap. A few markets would carry the league but the smaller markets couldn't survive as fans would check out if there was never any hope their team could win it all. The salary cap made the NFL the media power that it is today. The sooner the college football powers figure this out and even out the money and playing field, the sooner it'll start really growing its viewership in a way that mimics the NFL.
  14. I'm sure there's talks with those schools. Just goes to show money is once again more important than winning. Not sure what they have to gain athletically from being in the SEC. The kids already know their brands. The odds of being a conference champion and getting the automatic spot in the football playoffs is greatly reduced going from the ACC to the SEC. Instead they'll finish around 8-4 and on the outside looking in. All they gain is tv money. These conferences and separate media rights are destroying college football.
  15. If you read this article, they discuss the ACC as well: https://www.espn.com/college-football/insider/story/_/id/35698175/college-football-realignment-latest-chatter-pac-12-beyond The problem is the current agreement goes through 2036 and with the mix of small private schools and big public schools, not everybody's needs are the same. Here's part of it regarding the ACC from the ESPN article: "Just how binding are the grants of rights? School after school has gone to league headquarters to study them, so if there were an easy way out, some smart lawyer would have found it by now. (The ACC, like most leagues, doesn't allow copies of the television contracts and grants of rights out of the building, which protects the contracts from FOIA requests.) The essence of an ACC escape is that it would cost more than $100 million to leave and the schools would still need legal wangling to get access to their own games' TV money for more than a decade. That's significant risk -- but there's also plenty of risk for the high-profile schools of falling hundreds of millions behind national competitors. "Different lawyers have different opinions," an industry source said. "Eventually someone will take the leap. You'd assume that others would follow right behind." As usual in college athletics, the lawyers would be sure to cash in. The only certainty from any type of attempted breakup or breakaway would be billable hours. "If you are going to try and get out of the grant of rights, you better have a war chest," an industry source said. "You're going to need it to pay legal fees."'
  16. Wish they'd make it a point to get Perry involved early. He tends to find his shot later in the game but would really be good to get him in a rythm early. There was such little fight late in the game. I recall offensive possessions where guys weren't fighting for offensive rebounds or doing much at all. Like you said, just standing around. Against UTEP you'd see Sissoko obstructing defenders when somebody was driving to the basket but it doesn't appear Ousmane does that. Not much impact unless he has the ball or has a favorable match-up down low. Would have liked to see Sissoko in more yesterday.
  17. We can't afford to keep having our uniforms stolen in Ruston. Hard no for me. I realize this is the football forum but I'd invite New Mexico over UTEP. They've got a solid basketball program. They're also not too far away from the AAC Texas schools so I think it could work. If we're going to add a school, they should be strong in at least one of the two major sports. There's several MWC schools that I'd love to be in a conference with but with the current landscape of the AAC, you're looking at some long distance road trips for Navy, Temple, and the rest of the east coast schools. Edit: upon further review, I've misread the UTEP comments in this thread. Still, if the AAC is to expand more, I'd love a UNM to solidify the basketball side of the conference.
  18. They were doubling him often, even with Khalifa. Seemed their game plan was to make it as hard for him as possible to get the ball and it worked. Like @CMJsaid, he was also in foul trouble. If I recall correctly, he was subbed in at about the 12 minute mark of the second half and the Charlotte broadcast said he'd been on the bench for the previous 6 minutes.
  19. I don't think they're that high but they do have our conference's strongest OOC win against #24 Boise State. They're not a bad team.
  20. Can you share the video? I haven't been able to find it on the social medias. Cleared my schedule for this weekend.
  21. Don't know how to feel about that. I understand financially it doesn't make sense to get more without knowing if they'll be needed but it seems odd to just continue on with the season without a set of uniforms.
  22. Wow... So now what? Is there not another set? @ADLERthe greens were stolen in Ruston. Does this mean we're done for the season if we can't get replacements?
  23. Can somebody send this to McCasland and the AD's office. They need to know this so we stop losing games.
