  1. Oh my holy Furman! What did Virginia do??
  2. I agree with that comparison but as it pertains to the non-power conferences, I don't think UNT to Wichita State is enough of a leap that really raises your profile. If the ultimate goal is power conference, does Wichita State coming off 3 average seasons make that easier than UNT as is it now? Florida to Kentucky is not just a leap in the same conference, it's a leap to one of the best jobs in the country.
  3. To be fair, I see zero comments on that thread. Not sure that's a fanboard as much as it's a personal blog for a SHSU alum who's apparently living in Detroit. The OP joined in April of 2021 and has over 2,200 posts? Sheesh.
  4. He was 78.6% from free throws this season. Would have been 3rd on our team (excluding Moore due to limited attempts).
  5. He needs to be part of a winning program that can teach him how to play winning basketball. By my count, he has 2 years left of eligibility.
  6. I saw a few posts up you said he's 6'5". The High Point website lists him at 6'7" as a redshirt sophomore so maybe he grew and ESPN never updated his height? Personally, I'd love him at the 4. Few games that sticks out: High Point beat Florida Atlantic in 2021-2022 (a year early from this FAU squad but still). Austin had 12 points, 10 boards, 4 assists, and 4 blocks. He did it 39 minutes. Goldin played 21 so unknown how his production was with Goldin on the floor vs off the floor. Austin had 20, 8 boards, 3 blocks in 36 minutes in a loss to UNLV in 2021. 15 points, 8 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals in a loss to Michigan State. 12 points, 6 boards, 1 assist, 3 steals, 1 block in a loss to Kentucky. 13 points, 6 boards, 1 block in a loss to future AAC foe East Carolina. The most fouls he had in any of the games above is 2. He had 0 fouls in 3 of them. Strikes me as a Martinez type. Similar build, maybe a bit more athletic. Can shoot the 3. Definitely wouldn't hurt to have size his versatility. I agree with you about not seeing him taking minutes from Abou unless Grant envisions some positionless basketball which I don't see happening. I thinks it's Sissoko who will continue to take minutes from Abou but we'll see how that transpires.
  7. Which is why I wouldn't start him with Perry. The idea between 20+ minutes per game (20-25 ideally) is it allows you to get Perry back to the 30 minutes per game he got last season. More rest isn't a bad thing, especially late in the season. They'd then be on the court together for 10-15 minutes per game giving you two guys who can shoot the 3 and stretch the floor during that time. While Huntsberry has been an additional scoring threat we desperately needed last season, we never did really gain another legitimate 3 point shooter. Hopefully he can be that guy with an expanded role. And who knows, maybe he's got another couple inches to grow being that he's just a freshman.
  8. See, I'd like to see him get 20+ per game. Huntsberry's eligibility is done. The minutes at guard are there. We need somebody who can put the ball in the basket. There's no reason Moore can't be a starter or Perry-type 2021-2022 6th man and not just a spark plug.
  9. They need to go back to weighing recent games more than the games at the start of the year. Nevada's last win was February 24th.
  10. Sissoko is raw but physically he's impressive, works hard, and seems to learn well. He's getting better.
  11. If Perry comes back, replace Stone with Perry (has 1 more year if he wants it). I really like Stone's hustle and defense but he needs to improve his shooting a great deal.
  12. That little jump hook seems to seldom hit. We can't keep being that inefficient so close to the rim.
  13. They lost their final 3 games leading up to Selection Sunday. Maybe it was obvious they weren't a tourney team.
  14. Abou is just so dang inconsistent that it'd almost rather him not go for the hook shots and other. Get me some offensive boards and most importantly, hit the bunnies through contact. That's where Ousmane is really frustrating at times.
  15. I need honest answers here. Is Sissoko passing Abou by, at least on the offensive end (offensive rebounds/putbacks)?
  16. Got to love the play-by-play crew talking for 5 minutes in the first half about Scott getting stitches against UAB and then repeating for a good 5 to 10 minutes in the second half that Eady got stitches "last game." Guess they threw out that part of the notes at halftime.
  17. Honestly, I want a shot at Oklahoma State. If we can get there, I'd love to see what our team can do against a Big 12 school. Santa Clara or SHSU is going to be tough too.
  18. Down goes Clemson at home to Morehead State. UCF clobbered Florida at home. Good showing by the mid-majors so far. It's a shame Youngstown State couldn't pull out the win against Okie State.
  19. That is of we can beat Alcorn State who's missing 4 players including 3 of their double digit scorers. We really need to start hitting shots.
  20. I think Rutgers was more than up for it. They played like they had something to prove. I watched almost the entire game and it was very competitive and physical. Rutgers had the game won being up by 5 with 30 seconds left until Hofstra hit a three which was honestly a poor shot choice but it went in. Rutgers missed the first free throw of a 1 and 1 and then Hofstra went for the win with a 3, missed, but got the offensive board and put back with 2 seconds left. It was a great comeback by Hofstra that clearly had them go into OT full of momentum. Let's not downplay Hofstra's victory by saying Rutgers wasn't up for it.
  21. Seems like a lateral move. I've read posts on the Twitters suggesting Wichita State would be a step up simply because men's basketball is their premiere sport but even if that's true, I don't see it as a big enough leap for the likes or McCasland or Dusty May to take the job. Same conference in a few months, same national visibility, similar overall resources and you have to do a rebuild when you've got a good squad where you are. Unless it's one of their dream jobs, which I doubt, it doesn't make sense.
  22. The governor a NJ made a stink about them not making the big dance. Fans were on message boards calling for a class action lawsuit against the NCAA. Fans were on social media crying about it. Just beautiful to see, especially after their fans were chanting "NIT" at Michigan a few weeks ago. Not that I care about Michigan but still. They didn't respect the opposition and got burned.
