  1. UTSA and SMU in UNT out: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/page/bottom10110315/bottom-10-dedicated-miami-fans-georgia-bulldogs-far-top-dawgs
  2. He had concussion problems in college. That's why he stepped away when he did. Glad he's doing better. He could definitely bring a lot to a team.
  3. "Certainly everybody is going to be a challenge, but we've got to play our best to beat anybody" Yeesh. Harsh from the head coach.
  4. Does it not? Is that why the offense exploded after dodge left by 17 points per game?
  5. http://www.ridiculousupside.com/2015/10/27/9619728/north-texas-jacob-holmen-heads-for-2015-nba-d-league-draft/in/9365161 Nice little write up:
  6. T-Mitch was taken in the real draft... Not the D-League.
  7. Barnett lambasted the officials during the UTKFC game. It was awesome. Especially over McClain's targeting call. He brought it up with Chico and was like "you don't have to say it i will those calls were garbage". I thoroughly enjoyed Barnett.
  8. I'll bite. We know directly from Chris Riddle (Florida QB Recruit) that Chico hasn't been able to recruit the guys he wants. He's been handcuffed. And i'm not saying he is the perfect candidate. I don't know who the answer is from North Texas. But honestly, someone who cares about this program, and loves it here. Is passionate about little ol' UNT, and has improved everything he's put his hands on when he's had full control. You want wide open offense? " In 2008 at South Florida, Canales’ offense led the Big East Conference in scoring and finished second in total offense. He helped his team reach a national ranking as high as No. 2 during the 2007 season and No. 10 during the 2008 season." Done. You want someone with some head coaching experience but is still younger and affordable? Done. He has shown me that he is willing to adapt his game to find success, he can motivate and he wants to be here. He knows everything to know about this program and what it would take and he still wants that kick in the teeth. We actually get in depth answers to questions in interviews and not ra-ra horse shhh...er crap (sorry harry). He pretty much is your wish list embodied if you give him the benefit of the doubt that he's never had much control here. The only thing we don't know is his recruiting. But the man has been chomping at the bit and he's hungry. He'll get an offer to be a HC somewhere and if it's not here, mark my words. Quote me. Save my post. I think UNT and us here on the boards will regret it. And if i'm wrong i'll eat all the crow you can dish. Now all that being said: - His contract should be three years -To get an extension he needs an entrance to a bowl game at least once -He needs to fire cosh I know we are all keyboard coaching experts, but college football hiring isn't as formulaic as you try and make it. It's a crapshoot, there are 1,000,000,000 reasons why it could all go wrong even if we hire the "right" guy. At least we'd be gambling on someone who gives as much of a damn about North Texas as we do. (Preparing for downvotes sir!)
  9. I know not a lot of you know about the Daily, but pretty much everyone writes there for experience, as a volunteer. The Senior Staff and Editors get monthly paychecks. I think as a writer I was making $350-ish a month? I was writing 4 our 5 articles a week with a minimum of three sources per article and a budget (story idea) meeting weekly. That's a lot to be done in a short window of time on top of jobs that actually pay the bills and school. That was of course after a year and a half of writing for free. You do not get credit, in most cases, for writing for the Daily. It isn't really part of a class. It's a student organization. So basically it is people learning and volunteering their time. Scott is doing an excellent job. However, understanding how the NT Daily runs may change your outlook on what those people do and degrading the effort they put in. Most of my friends in editorials grades suffered to enrich campus coverage. There are plenty of mistakes and learning opportunities. Just like the real world, the Daily operates as a public service. Edit: Just realized you were saying there was no difference, @MeanGreenTexan I apologize. I retract directing this at you but will leave it as an educational tool.
  10. Famed Texas QB Successfully coaching high school football? Yeah... I think we tried that...
  11. How about a compromise banner? "Go Mean Green, We Love You! Except you RV, except you."
  12. What are we supposedly running now? Both offensive and defensive?
  13. We talk so much about who we'd like to see i'm curious what all of you would do behind the wheel. Spread? Pro-Style? Run-and-Gun? Triple Option? What is your base defense? Coverage preferences? Appetite for risk? I thought this could be fun to see what other people think would work here.
  14. @oldguystudent Mine is done in a similar fashion and from youtube videos that will let me.
  15. Gentlemen (and actual GMG members), Welcome to the future. As I'm sure you've noticed a new wave of fancy moving pictures floating around the forums these days. This probably shocked you as much as color TV did you old fuddy duddies. These are called GIF files (pronounced jif or ghif depending on what you are into). Now as you can see these are often used in place of words or with words to get a point across. For instance, if you check my post history, (feel free to upvote) you'll see a series of active GIFs of fire burning objects representing the current state of our program. Now, despite its growing popularity we ain't got dog crap for UNT GIFs (much like stops on defense this year). Unfortunately I can only fix the former. I've added a small, but potentially growing collection of Mean Green GIFs, depending on your reception. Hopefully this cheers everyone up for at least a moment. Also sorry for the last one, I stumbled upon the video and couldn't resist. All I ask in return is that this be a (generally) happy thread with a cease-fire or something and just back in the greatness of my creations. How do you i use this magic future-wizard?! I'm glad you asked elderly-old-person. 1. Find a GIF you like (preferably that doesn't suck). 2. RIGHT CLICK the GIF 3. Highlight and Click: COPY Image URL 4. Now, In the corner of your comment/post box ON GMG.com there is a button and it says: Insert other media. Click the sum' of a gun. 5. It opens a menu you two options. You're going to have to click something again: Insert image from URL 6. There will be a box for a URL (http/www/etc) PASTE what you copied. 7. Click Insert into post (just slide it on in). 8. Profit meaningless reputation points. Great, now I'm an addict. Where can i find more? http://giphy.com/ Honestly, was going to list a bunch but you have google. If you don't know how to use the I can do a post for that too. DISCLAIMER: GIFs do not make you any smarter, better-opinioned or funnier. DISCLAIMER 2: At least one quarterback was hurt in the making of these GIFS. (Others hurt by the 2013 defense not pictured). "Hit Stick" - Did someone just drop the sickest forum burn? Try this one. Pain train cometh. "The Hype Is Real" - New 3-Star Plus recruit? Winning streak? All aboard the hype train. "ROAR" - Need to make a statement? Try this one. "Light the tower" - Taking us to the digital age, an actual lighting tower. Move over quality jpeg, we're headed to the top floor! "House Party" - UNT90 on a roll? BillySee dropping recruiting knowledge? Cheer them on like only UNT can. "FOOTBALLOCALYPSE" - Oh everything is so freakin' happ... RAZE THIS MOTHER F'R. Special 2015 edition GIF. "TROLLOLOLOLOL" - Perfectly suitable when we have two interim head coaches (joke), keeping an ex-head coach on staff (also, joke). Welcome, to North Texas.
  16. Much less impressive these days. The barriers to Cuban access are being torn down by the current administration. Anyone can get cubans. Get some afghani hashish and then color me impressed.
  17. Thanks for your kind words Drex much appreciated.
  18. o·pen let·ternoun a letter, often critical, addressed to a particular person or group of people but intended for publication.
  19. Dear Dr. Smatresk, Let me open my letter by thanking you for your service to my beloved university. As an alumni of the University of North Texas, your community involvement, overall direction and leadership of my school is greatly appreciated. I think we are taking steps towards growing and refining our school to be a better university overall. That being said, I have a few issues with the direction and leadership of our athletic department. Before I get to those issues, let me preface why my opinion should matter to you (at least a little bit). I represent an important demographic to the future of North Texas. I'm a young professional approaching loan debt freedom. I have bought season tickets to North Texas through an outstanding Alumni and Denton business owner John Williams. I guess i'm what you could call a die hard fan. Every game I attend I stay standing from kick off to the final whistle, regardless of the score. I cheer, I groan, I yell and I occasionally lose my composure. Now why did I mention my student debt is coming to a close? Because It signifies a time in my life that I could start really giving back to my University. I've recently taken a new, and more fruitful, job opportunity which has blessed and accelerated my financial timeline and planning. This is something I want to do, but I confess I am quickly losing interest in. One of my many too-old-for-my-24-year-old-self hobbies is personal finance. This has taught me at least a simplistic understanding of the investment world, but bear with me here. I want to make an Investment in an institution that will bear fruit. It doesn't have to be specifically for me or my gain, but for the betterment of this institution I've grown to love. I do not foresee and gift/investment bearing fruit under the leadership of current Athletic Director Rick Villareal. I am grateful for some of his successes here in the realms of donations and facilities, but the time has come to stop building buildings and start building competitive athletic programs. He has proven, through the records of his coaching hires, that he is not the man to do that job. I do not think I need to stress the importance of the Mean Green reaching a new apogee in sports is something I need to go into great detail because you've already said this: “If we’re going to compete as a Tier One institution, our athletics teams need to compete as a Tier One institution as well. So we need to expect to fund athletics in a way that’s consistent with success, and we need that success in turn to yield revenue streams that can support and sustain." “We need teams that get national attention, because like it or not, one of the biggest ways schools get recognized is the quality of their teams – primarily football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball. I’m not saying the other sports aren’t important, but those core sports are what advance your brand … That’s going to have to be another piece of how we get to Tier One, getting recognized however we can at a national level.” To take your own example, President Smatresk, it's time to find a new brand manager. Thank you for your willingness to listen, Respectfully, After careful consideration and some time to dwell on the recent footballocolypse this is what I came up with. I tried to be as direct and respectful as possible. This was the letter has already been sent via e-mail.
  20. I think we all recognize that Carlos is one of the guys who gives it all on the field. He has consistently produced with a subpar QB situation. I think people are just tired of hearing anything from any one associated with the team blow up on fans and critics. The world is full of critics, the best thing to do is keep smiling and work hard. Not saying he doesn't do this, but the coach just said stay off social media, his defense of his team will be with his production. All i said was shut up and play football. That says nothing about him lacking effort, only that the lip service is unnecessary.
