  1. This about coaching. Not recruits. Cause then Littrel won with Mac's recruits...and went to a bowl due to Mac's grades...
  2. 5-8 is 5-8... We went from horrible to being only bad. It's still 5-8. Once again, you are comparing him to the previous UNT trash instead of comparing him to the rest of college football. Being better than Mac and Chico is nothing. If i hired someone in business and the previous person that I replaced stole from the company, called in, and never did their work on time I would hope my next hire could immediately come in and not be terrible. I would expect an upgrade immediately. Littrel is an upgrade from (2015 mac) and has shown he has some "potential" He hasn't proven anything though. If Mac would have still had Skladany, he could have pulled off the same type of season...cause the games we won were still due to the defense.
  3. So they deserve a raise because the previous season was bad? It should be expected that a replacement outperforms a staff or someone that was fired. You fired them because you expect better. When you get better, that is why you hired them in the first place. So, does 6-7 or 7-6 get him another raise?
  4. He got beat out by Bralon Addison in the tryout for the Bears. Addison was added to the practice squad and then made the official roster a few weeks later...so Chancellor had a legit shot.
  5. OK, Litrell is an offensive guru, and it's gonna take a while to get the pieces to truly judge his system. How long are we supposed to give him? Maybe it's just me, but it dosent seem like we have the QB of the future settled... What's been quietly forgotten is the whole picking Morris to run the offense and a true freshman beating out his top guy. And he did it by running. Not throwing. It had a Greer feel to it and thanks to Fine's heart, he made some big plays. I didn't see great coaching. I saw Fine play with heart. I guess Litrell gets credit for putting in a faster QB. Littrel still has to be able to have an eye for QB talent if this is going to work. And if we were going to wind up playing a running QB, wonder how demarcus smith would have looked with another year and development. I guess they didnt see anything they could develop.
  6. Sutton one on one several times is bad coaching. Period. Especially on 3rd and long. I don't think Littrell took over special teams. I just don't think special teams was an emphasis as it was with McCarney. Even the 1-11 team made plays with the special teams.
  7. I think littrell is a good coach, but still has a lot to prove. I consider him a good coach. In my opinion, He is an improvement over Mac/Chico. Not sure if Ekler was better than Skladany though. I think Reffert will be better than Ekler, but I have nothing to base it on other than the possibility of more blitzing.
  8. Littrell and staff missed a lot with the Xs and Os. Not sure what fans are seeing. Our special teams were not as good as they were under mccarney and I'm sure perry did not have as much input as he did under mccarney. Our special teams made big plays and helped win games before Littrel got here. Not having a saftey over the top vs a beast like Sutton. And he was on the belintnicoff list before the season. Our secondary gave up big plays all year and were no match against good QBs. The two teams we looked decent against in 2015, UTSA and UTEP we looked bad with Littrel. Seem liked Litrell and staff completely ignored what was somewhat successful vs those teams the previous year. Playcalling wasn't as predictable as it was under mccarney, but it was questionable. I didn't see a great in game coaching performance like some did. They added more passing and brought the corners up. A move most on this board asked for and would have made. If we give Littrell and staff, the 2013 team will buyers play corner or WR? If corner, are they leaving him on an island with no safety? Littrel still has a lot to prove. Mac has plenty to bash without taking credit from his 9 win season. No way am I going to assume Littrel can win 10 games (UNT record?) with ANY team cause he went 5-8 his first year.
  9. As of right now, they both went 5-7 in their first year. Only difference is Littrell went bowling due to strong grades from Mac's stint. And Mac had a 9-4 season when he got his extension. So until Littrel gets us a 9 win season and a bowl victory, you are right...there is a big difference.
  10. I would say Rodrique Wright who is currently the DL coach at Sam Houston. Was a all American DL at UT and bounced around the NFL and Canada. Was a big time NFL prospect until he messed up his shoulder. I'm sure UNT could poach him from Sam. Texas ties, college experience, little pro ball and he's from the middle of one of the hottest recruiting areas in the nation...Alief/Fort Bend.
  11. Really? Aww hell...I just knew it was a given with the 1st round projection he would be gone. I got us losing this one then. Hopefully Reffett has better play calling than last year...
  12. Yes...And no Sutton. He's projected to go 1st or 2nd round.
  13. If he had to fight for passes in practice, he would be more prepared to fight for them in games. Under mac, we had our corners play with big cushions. It's no surprise that when we faced tighter coverage/bump and run our WRs didn't get any separation. And yes, the corners practiced the same way they played. It gave our QBs and WRs a false impression of how good they were. The coverage got tighter under Litrell, but our players still need to unlearn the bad habits. Especially if you have been doing it for a while. I complained about the corners not looking back for the ball during the season, but a lot of that had to do with the reps they were getting in practice. It's easy for me to yell at the TV "turn around!", but when you haven't turned around for a ball in 2 years, you lose it. When you haven't played against tight coverage in a while, you lose those skills that most would think should be automatic and instinct.
  14. This. I think the defense will be better with Reffett. If you are going to have dbs manned up, at least get after the QB.
  15. Considering Tommy Perry was let go, I would think Littrell really wanted to coach the RBs. If not, then that really makes the Perry decision more confusing. Maybe it was just the fact that he wasn't picked by Littrell or he wanted to get rid of everything from the previous staff. I was told that the coaches didn't want to consider any evaluations or performances from the past, and everything was starting from scratch. In theory, that sounds good, and it is a mindset you want your players to have. But to not carry over a positive from the previous seasons could come back to hurt. Special teams under Perry did very well. The kicking game was good last year, but that may be due to the experience and talent of the players. The other aspects seem to take a step back. I may not be 100% accurate on this, but I seem to remember at least a few run backs on kick/punt under mac. The coverage also didn't allow much. This year, the runs and the coverage look worse, and I'm not sure if we had any blocked kicks. Seems to me Perry wasnt allowed to do his thing.and wasn't liked by this staff.
  16. Huh? None of the Seniors from this last year are listed. They have already bumped everyone up.
  17. I think the defense should be a lot better. I don't think any of the losses on the defense are key and you add English. Yes I was the one pumping up Chad Davis before the season, but he wasn't even used right by these coaches and he was very average. There should be no drop off with Jenkins as the full time starter. Jenkins should upgrade the spot this year if he improves. Anyone who paid attention to the secondary would have also seen the big drop off in Grays performance. He was playing hurt, but it also looked like he struggled with some reads. Fred Scott also played hurt. He is decent when healthy. Should not touch the field if he is hurt. Yes he is smart, but whoever fills that spot will have had a second year to learn the defense and should be a better athlete. At minimum, the defense should perform the same as last year. Jenkins and Brooks are going to give up big plays vs good offenses, but hopefully Brooks can get his head around and get a few more picks. If English and others can make a big impact in stopping the run and providing a pass rush, the safeties can focus more on stopping the pass, and the defense can improve.
  18. I think all 3 will pick up the offense well. The issue is reading defenses. Who will be able to make the right reads and be able to take advantage of the mismatches. Fine hurt teams by running, but he's gonna have to be able to hurt teams by throwing too. If not, he won't hang onto the job. The good teams aren't going to lose to a qb that can't hurt you in the air.
  19. At minimum, there should be a meet the players/autograph session. At least act like you are big time. I don't see how an AD can miss on this one.
  20. This. Especially the case with QB. The QB situation is one of the first thing recruits look at. And not just WRs. Hell even in little league, my 11 year old and friends were asked to play on a team and first thing out of their mouths was... whos at quarterback?
  21. I hope so. I just think that he put himself and his staff in a must win situation. Fans aren't going to wait on low rated recruits to pan out because the chances of their success is low. Just listening to the radio today and they were talking to an undrafted NFL free agent and he said the hardest part about not having that high rating is when you fail, you don't get the second chances. They expect you to look bad, and if you do, it confirms why you are rated low. If you have a high rating, more people are willing to wait on you. It's not fair, but that's the way it is. These guys are going to have to hit 6 to shut everybody up. If not, no one is going to take Littrell's word that his diamonds in the rough will pan out again. I think UNT has a shot to get to 6, but it's mainly due to the fact the defense hasn't lost much and they can win similar to last year.
  22. I agree about the buy in, but last year's team had more talent than 1 win. Should have won UTEP too. A new atmosphere, attitude, and speech helped this team out tremendously. The new schemes on offense and defende also did more with the talent we had. It was still the same talent with the same flaws when it was all said and done. Speeches and attitude changes are great, but there also needs to be some sort of skill and talent involved with the coaching staff for this thing to keep going, or we will have another Mac situation on our hands. What happens when the rah, rah, rah runs out? What happens when that same speech gets old? Several times we were not able to line up and get a yard. Several times we got beat on 3rd and long and there was 1 on 1 coverage with no safety help. It should concern you that there was no tee it high and let it fly. That was his MO. The grad transfer was not ready to play and we got by with a true freshman QB who had the ability to run and make plays. I am still concerned about the talent evaluation. Morris was not prepared and ready to start the season. Wyche at RB and Moore at db were the preseason stars that did not look close to being ready once they got in a game. But they practiced so well. Seems kinda DMac ish to me. One thing I give Litrell props for was making adjustments. He wasn't stubborn and just stuck with guys. But he was also playing with house money cause of the 1-11. What happens now that expectations are higher?
  23. IMO Littrel put UNT and himself in a must win situation next year with this class. A good class and people would be willing to wait for the results. The only thing he will be able to sell to recruits is back to back bowls. A non bowl season next year means a similar class to this year and it also means the "tee it high and let it fly" offense was a failure and won't attract players like we thought it would. UNT needs a gimmick, and needs one fast. I know some are saying winning will solve the problem. Well we went 9-4 and won a bowl game in the middle of Dallas and didn't see a big difference. And Litrell isn't going to win 9 games in the near future. Well that was only one winning season...we need multiple winning seasons... Why does UNT have to have multiple winning seasons while other teams are having recruiting success without it? The Texas State success is the writing on the wall cause they are just as bad as UNT. Is it just as simple as who was hired at Texas State and UTSA? I'm sorry. The question has to be asked...Especially for schools who need a recruiting advantage and gimmick to compete with schools who have more...Are these coaches having recruiting success cause they are black/AA? The last two UNT coaching staffs had little diversity with the head coaches and coordinators. And this is a totally different era, so anything past 10 years is totally irrelevant. I'm hoping Litrell can win and give us 2 back to back bowl seasons, but something tells me even that won't be enough.
  24. How would we know if the WRs were any good since the QBs were so bad though. Someone has to get them the ball.
