  1. That frustration comes from knowing you have the talent physically to get it done, but mentally, scheme, coaching, technique, etc it is not translating to game day. We are beating teams that we have more than. Throw all that 1-11 blah, blah, blah out the window. The sign that our coaching is good will be when we can beat teams that have equal or more talent.
  2. Tommy Perry was treated as an outcast and the writing was on the wall. Littrel wants nothing to do with anything associated with the 1-11 squad. Don't think it was really personal, but I guess he wants all his people in here and didn't want to inherit any coaches like Mac inherited Chico. Littrell is into the small things like image, mindset, attitude, how you practice that week, etc. The term New Denton is used because 1-11 is old Denton. I understand wiping the slate clean, but he blew it with Tommy Perry and his replacement. He is also blowing it in recruiting and that will keep UNT average at best. The best move that was made was Guyton. Without him, this offense would be shut down. Littrell will need to continue to find Guyton type transfers to keep up his success.
  3. Does not sound like a pool "party" to me at all. Don't know who started the pool party thing, but most guy's definition of a party involves girls, drinking, and/or music.
  4. This. Crazy part is we may still be an 8-4 team with our schedule. Even if we finish 8-4, 7-5...this is still an average team and a coaching staff that is still learning. We will be at a disadvantage against any team or coach that does anything well. We have one guy that could most likely make most teams starting roster and that is guyton. Thats it. No need to panic at this point cause average is an upgrade for now.
  5. A pool party? Is this for real or an exaggeration?
  6. I disagree with this when it comes to the UTSA game. The defense kept it close enough to win it with some luck and good plays from the offense at the end. Other than the QB scrambles, the defense did well against UTSA. Your main point though, that the defense sucks overall is true though. We are not going to stop a team with a good offense/decent QB. That's going to take some time. We need speed at LB and better safety play.
  7. Not a good matchup for UNT. Ed Oliver vs UNT OLine? No. If the QB is Kyle Allen, then that's not too bad. If it is Postma, then no. He can run like Sturm but is a much better passer.
  8. Garner has to make that play. I yelled at the TV before it happened, but he couldn't hear me. I knew it was coming.
  9. The defense definitely deserve major props. There were some plays where the defense could have shut them down completely. Especially on those QB runs, but they kept the game close enough to win while the offense was sputtering with some very questionable play calling.
  10. This is the play of the year. This one play may help catapult UNT football to places we have never been. A 50 yard play with 40 seconds left...The coverage was not good, but who cares. You had the corner play underneath where he was supposed to be, but he jumped early. The safety has to be on top and make the play. The problem for UTSA is the route and throw was so close to the sideline, he had a long way to run. The safety was looking at #9 Guyton and Lawrence was 1 on 1. The safety didn't get over in time. If there was a little more room left, Lawrence would have took that to the house. UTSA should have went with a nickel and had 3 safeties with 40 seconds left.
  11. I guess La tech couldn't find another good transfer QB.
  12. How is this possible? No way. Because based on a few mean green fans, you have to wait 3 years to rebuild, or you have to have a few years to get your recruits in to run your system, or you have to have a talent advantage. No way a 2nd year coach can go in Norman with good coaching and a solid gameplan and beat mighty OU with what the previous coach left.
  13. There's some football smart women, but come on. Route running is very specific...especially for a post game press conference. Who has had time to review the film? Has route running been mentioned before as an issue? You would have to be specifically paying attention to the routes during the game to come up with a technique question like that. And athletes don't just question women's knowledge of sports. Athletes are going to question even a male coach if they don't have credentials and skins on the wall. If you are a man and not proven, your knowledge is questioned. And it happens on EVERY level. Athletes respect those that played. This is not new. If you coached and never played, you better have some wins under your belt. Some male reporters get attitudes from players too. Like, who is this nerd, who never played asking me this for. You can't criticize me cause you never played...
  14. "There were plenty of cases when the safety was late..." This. 3rd and long is an issue with the safety. It's the position that ref coaches and it's been an issue for 2 years. You would think with Sutton being an NFL talent and McClain having NFL aspirations and being on the Thorpe watch list, we would have seen that matchup often. If for anything, to get him more exposure. But intstead, we left our corners out there to get killed...Again.
  15. Cam should have known better, but it shouldn't have been this big of a story. A woman asking about specifics such as route running does seem out of place to me. Seems like a question that was given to her or she was trying very hard to look football smart. Maybe she is that knowledgeable...but I would still think it was out of the ordinary. I have heard others bring up women who have performed/coached at a high level and who are knowledgeable, but tackle football is totally different than sports like soccer, baseball/softball, and basketball where the men's game is very similar to the women's.
  16. oh yeah, i almost forgot... No argument... 2013• Named to the 2013 Conference USA All-Conference First Team at defensive back • Named first-team all-conference by C-USA • Led NT with five interceptions and eight PBU's • Tied for fourth in C-USA in interceptions and seventh in PBU's • Finished third on the team in tackles with a career-high 90 • Had 4.5 tackles for loss and two forced fumbles • Recorded seven tackles in the win over UNLV at the Heart of Dallas Bowl • Led NT with three blocked kicks on the year, two punts and one field goal • Blocked a punt that resulted in a touchdown at No. 9 Georgia • Notched a career-high 14 tackles and had an interception at Ohio • Blocked a field goal against Idaho • Had five or more tackles in 10 of 12 games • Had two interceptions in the victory over Rice, including the game clinching pick • Notched an interception at Southern Miss and had two PBU's
  17. Lets tap the brakes. some of yall are crowning Littrell for beating a team we beat last year. And that QB Griggs has started 4 D1 games. lets not act like we have a defense yet. Mac (and Chico) were HORRIBLE at picking QBs and development. Littrell and Co looks like they have Mac beat in that area, but that's about it. There's still plenty other areas and positions that are not even close. Mac won a bowl and 9 games. Littrell still has a lot of work to do. A lot. And this conference is a lot weaker than it was in 2013...
  18. What the ? I'm watching at totally different game than you. Trice not only racked up tackles like our safeties have done, but he was very active in the passing game against similar or even better competition. Creating fumbles, Ints...what? Our 3rd down issues are due to the play of the safety...and we have 3 of them. You must be assuming or projecting what Muhammad will be his senior year. And no one is having an EXCELLENT year at that facility. Not yet.
  19. Stop it. NOW! I would take Jeff Wilson and Guyton from this team. That's it. Not even close. And none of the coaching staff...Maybe Littrell in a few more years...
  20. It depends though. Jenkins is good in pass coverage. He needs work in the run game and play recognition. If they switch Hall to the boundary corner, then Jenkins can move to the field corner. The Boundary corner has to be good at stopping the run. Nate was better than Davis and Jenkins and reading and stopping the run last year, so I understand why he was out there starting...at least on 1st and 2nd down...but on 3rd and long, Nate can come out. In some goaline situations Nate can come out. I don't know much about Hall, but if he can play the Boundary Corner, then that could give us more options with the substitutions. Jenkins isn't an ideal boundary corner. Hall seems to play physical and I have heard a lot of good things. It's worth a try. At minimum, get Nate out on 3rd and longs.
  21. I like Nate a lot, but I do not understand why he does not get replaced. Even last year, it was Jenkins and Davis splitting time and they both covered much better than Nate. I think Nate was the better overall corner as far as 1st and 2nd downs last year, but in obvious passing situations and versus teams that ran the spread, we should have had our best COVER corners out there. I thought it was a Eckler issue, but we are doing something similar this year with the corners too. Maybe even worse. Jenkins showed he can make plays in the game last year. Who cares about some stupid preseason camp. OK, he doesn't start, but not play at all? Really? I was skeptical of Hall because I have heard it before with the preseason camp, but it looks like he is the best corner on the team now. He's solid in coverage and physical. I still would trust Nate more on 1st and 2nd down, but Jenkins definitely should be in there if it is 2nd or 3rd and long, and obvious passing situations. Nate still has time to work it out before he leaves, but he's getting burnt. No way to sugar coat it. Safety. This position has been getting a pass (and not an actual pass in the game) for too long now. OK, in some defenses the strong safety racks up lots of tackles. I get that, but we give way too much hype for the amount of tackles our safeties are getting and they do little to nothing in coverage. On 3rd and long, a safety should be looking at something to snag and take to the house. Our safeties are not coming close to getting their hands on the ball enough. Who cares about having a bunch of tackles when the ball shouldn't be completed that much in the first place. At least with Trice and Lee, they were close enough to create fumbles and hard hits after the catch. These guys aren't close.
  22. Like someone posted in another thread. SFA playes him better and had a better scheme. Now, do we have less talent than SFA? Coaching.
  23. I just saw the Dallas Cowboys 1st and goal on the 2 yard line. They have a massive offensive line and a beast at RB. They threw it 3 times. not a talent issue at all. The talent was there to line up and at least try to run it in. But bad coaching and stupid play calling can make talent look bad.
  24. Does Liberty and UTSA have more talent than Baylor? Maryland have more talent than Texas? Nichols State vs A&M? Bad coaches and schemes can make the talent they have look worse if the talent is not put in the right situation. A good coach can also do more with less talent. At some point we have to stop making excuses for these coaches when other teams, even some in our own conference, are getting more out of players and finding diamonds in the rough. Nothing was going to stop Sutton at all. He is a 1st round draft pick this year and even players that are on NFL rosters had trouble guarding him. But saying that, i would like the coaches to do more with the talent they have. Jenkins has talent. Was he even used on defense? I don't think he stops Sutton, but why can't Nate come out on 3rd and longs and you put in better, faster cover guys? Can we see Hall and Jenkins on the field at corner on obvious 3rd and longs?
  25. If we plan on winning, it needs to be Fine.
