  1. I'm imagining this scene, that's really funny. I bet it was one of those things that seemed like a good/funny idea at the time.
  2. You can tell he comes from a pastor's family. His second calling may be as a minister. Seems like a genuine dude, and I bet he plays well with recruit's parents. Doesn't hurt that he comes from the city of champions: Irving, Texas.
  3. Guys. Guys. You're thinking too small. What about, hear me out: Tex Watson Pros: Not only Texas ties, but the man is a North Texas alumni. -We know he's a good shot, maybe it'll rub off on our player's free throw shootings. Cons: Currently incarcerated for life for the Manson murders. thoughts?
  4. I think Harper would be perfect for a quick turnaround, and then possibly moving on, so we can get a younger up-and-coming coach once our program is back to respectability. Look what he did to Jacksonsville State this season. They were 8-23 last season in the Ohio Valley conference. Now in their first ever NCAA tourney. I almost wonder if we won't be outbid for him, now that his NCAA issues at WKU have faded a bit..
  5. Very intelligent and well-articulated reasoning. I didn't understand the merits of keeping him on before, but I can definitely see his point of view. Time to move on now and trudge forward.
  6. Food might suck, but we know the facilities will be great...
  7. Honestly I've heard of this but didn't know about the website and how easy it is to register. Thanks for the heads up.
  8. I think at one point we had it where you could see who gave you +1's. It was pretty cool, but then I realized all my +1's were from @Quoner. At first I was depressed, but now we're life partners so it all worked out.
  9. Exactly. Least of their concerns was how their diverse student body find jobs or even pass the bar. Until the legal profession itself becomes more diverse (demographics, socioeconomics, and what schools big firms hire from), the need isn't going to be there. I wouldn't hold your breath on the legal profession becoming more diverse.
  10. Growth should be stagnant based on trends. We are still admitting more students than we probably should, but so is everyone else. We just haven't resorted to expanding our online programs (yet), like UTA and others.
  11. Sorry, but "enrollment is down, but diversity is up" usually translates to "we are getting less applications, but we are lowering our admission standards to keep afloat." I'm not saying anything about demographics or being a HSI specifically. This is a trend in higher ed right now and UNT is no exception. Some schools are resorting to "non-traditional" study like online courses. Kind of a win-win for them, they can still not care about the job prospects of the students they admit and spend less money on them at the same time. The enrollment and applicant pool is finally catching up to the market. There is not the need for this many 4-year diploma holder in this job market, especially unqualified ones. It's time the schools feel it in the pocket books and stop desperately reaching to hit "enrollment goals."
  12. The Howester was almost as good as the GOAT:
  13. History tells us that less than 50% of their students will pass the bar this year. And after that, they'll probably pull any hope of getting accredited. And yes, it is a big embarrassment for the University, especially when those bar numbers come out.
  14. Again--I just think you mischaracterized the reason why we are in the current legal state. If you want to blame anyone, blame the pyramid scheme that was big corporate law firms, which all collapsed after the recession.
  15. Ok, now divide that by the 12 teams in Texas, who all try to recruit here, on top of schools across the country. I imagine ArkyState gets a decent pick of the litter after Arkansas and don't have to worry about all the recruits they target getting national attention. Much likelier to find diamonds in the rough there. Not to excuse our recruiting, that's why I think we should focus much more effort on recruiting outside of DFW, including Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. That being said--I definitely count our being in DFW as much more of a hindrance than anyone is willing to give credence to. Especially given we are now the 3rd choice for most, just in our 30 mile radius.
  16. This. People act like other G5s should be envious of our location. Honestly, I'm envious of LaTech's, ArkyState's, and the like. Must be nice to be the one of only a few schools recruiting in your state.
  17. Yeah I've been to both and not much more interest than there is for athletics. However, I have seen fry street packed to the brim before, so let's be fair the town/school are interested in one thing: drinking. Just not going to football games to do it.
  18. Because you're shitting on PI attorney and "hail claim chasers" for no reason, which I know from experience usually only comes up with people who work in insurance. It's just a tired bit you hear quite a bit in the profession. Usually comes with some anecdote about the McDonalds coffee case... i don't disagree with your point about the legal market. Then again, that wasn't your original point. You took an opportunity to call out the profession as if it's all ambulance chasers, DWI attorneys, or divorce attorneys. You're correct. This law school wasn't needed and neither are many others, but for different reasons. The demand isn't there because a lot of reasons, least of which is tort reform which happened in the 90s and early 2000s in Texas. This mostly started with the recession.
  19. Those poor, poor insurance companies, getting gouged by those blood-sucking hail-chasing attorneys. Whatever will they do? I'm sure the Texas legislature is doing its noble duty slapping down those ambulance-chasing demons-in-suits, and it has nothing to do with lobbyist from the insurance companies at all. Check their campaign contributions, I bet you'll find it's all from fly-by-night shingle-hanging personal injury attorneys.
  20. Really good find. Doesn't necessarily meet our coaching staff's young age requirement, but could definitely use some experience at that position.
  21. Anyone bring up Justin Barkley? Wren just gave him props on winning 6 of 7 at Rogers state. Think he was a Wren hire there. Has won 16 every season in the Division 2 Heartland conference.
  22. Keep in mind that's a fan recruiting Twitter account. They do good work, but not associated with North Texas athletics. From my understanding, Raveon was not academically eligible after being signed as a late qualifier and any part on the team would be as a walk-on, if SL & co. want to go in that direction. He has always maintained on Twitter that he wants to play for us, but the coaches haven't mentioned it other than last summer when asked SL said he won't be playing for us after failing to qualify academically. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2016/08/breaking-news-raveon-hoston-will-not-play-for-unt.html/
