  1. I understand University of Arkansas Offensive Coordinator Garrick McGee has interviewed and one of the top prospects for the job. He's a great recruiter and should make them a lot tougher at least from an offensive standpoint if he's their choice. The recent ESPN Depth Chart was almost as much a McGee promo as it was profiling the Arkansas QB's.
  2. As a UNT parent I am a relative newcomer to Mean Green Nation (4th year). I love the campus and the things UNT has to offer to students and actively recruit UNT grads for the company I work for and will continue to do so. Yesterday was my first visit to Apogee (1st game I could make due to health issues) and I was very impressed with the facilities. Even the walk from Fouts wasn't bad (I got my walking exercise in!). We sat in the student section and they were great, especially on defensive 3rd downs. They were into it the whole game, which compared to the first game we attended at Fouts 4 years ago was a change, and they will continue to make a difference. We didn't get to tailgate due to conflicts causing us to get to Denton after 3:00 but I can see where it is a good game day atmosphere and will only get better. Looking forward to making at least one of the remaining two home games and getting there early enough to partake in the tailgate experience. As far as the change in the football being played at UNT, and its already been mentioned on previous posts, the defensive intensity certainly stands out to me. I was at last year's the ULM game and we made Browning look all world then and this year he was pedestrian (for the most part). Consistent pressure on the QB and punishing receivers is the difference. That and flying to the ball. I was at the K-State game last year and the offense finally seemed to get untracked and deliver the kind of exciting plays everyone expected them to deliver early on this year. I thought it could have been an easier time if Moe, Larry & Curly hadn't been part of the referee crew (Missed PI calls & the roughing the kicker was ludicrous) but I digress. Will there continue to be hiccups along the road? Sure there will (ask OU or Wisconsin). But stay positive Mean Green Nation. This coaching staff is the real deal and will get this program over the hump. UNT has too much to offer. PS: Can't wait for basketball season either! GMG!
  3. Since I've been recuperating from by-pass surgery the last 4 weeks my days have pretty much been sports shows non-stop and the TV version of GAC from 3-6 has been a staple (I'm in Northeast Texas). I heard the comments Randy made and at first I was afraid he was being a little too tongue in cheek but then I felt he was really giving some props to the Mean Green which was great. After all he didn't have to give it any mention whatsoever. Let's put a run together so that its a regular occurrence. Can't wait to see Apogee in person. Hopefully my doc will release me for that kind of trip soon. GMG!!!
  4. It wouldn't take much to "modernize" this cheer i.e substitute U.N.T for T.N.C. At least we won't have cheerleaders dressed like orderlies from One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. Or are they actually the inmates....hmmm? Perhap I digress?
  5. My eldest son and daughter-in-law are U of A graduates and currently live in Fayetteville and my middle son is a Jr. at UNT so my loyalties are somewhat divided, especially being a life long Hogs fan but, I do my best to talk up both schools. I was at the Fouts finale and plan on being at the Houston game for the opener this fall. I want great things to happen with the program and I think the pieces are in place to do so. WPS & GMG!!!
  6. At this point in the process, and I know its very early, I'd have to say the selection of Dan McCarney is 4 stars (especially higher than the ULL new coach)instead of 3 stars and I'd certainly rate the job above Indiana and Vanderbilt although I understand in the national scene Big Ten & SEC trump Sun Belt every time. But, as the writer acknowledged, the Metroplex proximity and the talent therein plus a the new stadium and a great campus make it the best opening in the Sun Belt. However, to put it in the same category as Ball State, Arkansas State (Jonesboro=Denton/ PLEASE!!), Kent State and Temple is a tremendous injustice to the Mean Green Nation. Just like recruiting classes the writer should come back in 3-4 years and then see where the stars align. GMG!
  7. Would like to see Chris Henderson as well. As the Rivals site shows OU & A&M I doubt OU takes four DT's and would be a lttle surprised A&M takes two JUCO DT's but it is possible wih only 18 commits at this point. Scout has a Chris Henderson out of Dallas Carter at Coffeyville KS JC 6'4" 300lb DE but no Chris Henderson from Trinity Valley, which is odd. ESPN had Chris Henderson from Dallas Carter as a 2009 commit to A&M but he was listed at 6'1" 245. Will the real Chris Henderson please stand up? (And be a UNT Eagle!)
  8. Thanks for posting the video, it was a great shot and really lit the crowd up. A dagger to the Red Wolves heart for sure.
  9. Loving this commit. He does seem to have it all. Hope it translates well to the next level. I too like his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He'll have a great mentor in Dunbar for sure not to mention Coach Canales.
  10. Nice measurables too. That size can help out in the run game as well as going up high against shorter DB's. Wonder how his grades and test scores are? Any idea what type of offense West Mesquite ran i.e running team, spread, etc.?
  11. Couldn't agree more with all the above comments and the topic title says it all. First time seeing a game at the Super Pit. The wife & I drove over to Dallas for some business I had to take care of and decided to head up to Denton and see the game since we were so close. Great seats, great game, great atmosphere, wish more people would have taken it in, as they missed great fun. The donation ceremony was awesome. The 2 hour drive was well worth it. It won't be the last game I make. Also drove by the new stadium and wow! Can't wait to see the finished product. Go Mean Green!
  12. I wish Rivals would get up to speed with the number of commitments we have on board. ESPN is ahead of both Rivals and Scout last time I checked. Also interesting to see the differences in the schools of interest between the different boards.
  13. Good looking list although swapping the TE for another OL and two LB's instead of two WR's would be my 2 cents. That would bring this class to 4 OL and signing almost a full line each year should be a goal especially if you go strictly the HS route. Too thin there and you have to start some underclassmen before they are ready. The defensive needs speak for themselves and I wouldn't be surprised, given Coach McCarney's history, we don't see that be a focal point if not this year then next for sure. Especially having a full year to develop or re-establish relationships in recruiting.
  14. I see there is now a link to the DRC coverage of UNT recruiting which is better than nothing and hopefully a response to the commments posted by Mean Green Fans in the metro-plex. Winning will take care of some of this (as has been posted earlier)but continuing to hold them accountable is necessary. Good Job UNT fans!!! GMG from Northeast Texas!!! Guess I was premature on my post listed above. I should've checked the link before commenting. Almost worse than not making any attempt by just linking to the sports page of the DRC and having to look hard to find any recruiting news. As some of the commenters stated its difficult to see where they got the headline " Your Complete guide to college football recruiting's national signing day"? Hard to see what's complete about it.
  15. What about the kid from Aledo Danny Edwards? Would look better if he was 285 instead of 260 but then again he might have a couple of stars by his name if that was the case and have 6 more schools on him. College football recruiting is more excrutiating on the nerves than watching DeNiro & Walken play Russian roulette in The Deer Hunter (That's a movie reference youngsters).
  16. Just checked on of Arkansas' boards recruiting section and this young man isn't mentioned but 3 other DT prospects are still on their list: Two Rivals 4 Stars and One 3 Star. The only 2 Texans still on their list are Horace Arkadie 3* DE from Irving and 2* TE Andrew Peterson from Seagoville.
  17. I don't care what you say, that there is just plain stooopid!
  18. Green Talons on the white helmets would be my choice FWIW. Not sure I get the animosity toward the use of helmet stickers. Its about recognizing outstanding plays on offense, defense or ST and shouldn't be easy to get and should be prized by the wearer.
  19. They are losing 22 Seniors and have 3-4 they can count back to last year and with Mallet going pro may have his spot available too. Some talk of some players transfering out happening there as well. Checked with one of the Arkansas recruiting gurus for one of their boards and he wasn't aware of any coaches visiting Knight although alot of their coaches are out nationwide this week. Arkansas could be looking at him for a Plan B since, in addition to the 2 DT's I mentioned in an earlier post they are still after, they are hosting a kid named Barron Dixon this weekend Rivals 3 Star DE from Georgia.
  20. They (Arkansas) are also in the mix for at least 2 other DT's 3 Star PJ Jones of Mississippi and 4 Star Mickey Johnson of Covington LA. They have 25-26 commits and are about maxed out. Probably some sign and place prospects in the list but not sure. The last 3 years with Petrino they've averaged 4 players per year signing that didn't make it to campus. In some respects this is surprising that they are making a last minute push at this guy, not because he isn't a decent prospect just because of the other numbers involved.
  21. How many players is UNT able to sign this year? Relatively new Mean green fan, new to the board & excited to see what the new staff does in recruiting.
  22. As the parent of a Green Brigade member, 3rd year and not a music major btw, I have to say the current arrangement of the fight song is one of the best around and after hearing the "original" IMHO feel it not only pays homage to that arrangement it gives it a more exciting feel especially with the spell out. I do agree it is a challenge to keep the beat on the extra point when things go quiet and some change may be in order. With the other selections that were shared in another post (Fanfare, Grand Entry, etc.) it seems at one time the marching style was military (anyone care to confirm?) and now as a "show band" the use of traditional marches is not as prevalent. I like to hear a good march but I'll gladly leave the military marching style to A&M, although a retro show might be interesting. As a lifelong Razorback fan, relocated to Northeast Texas 6 years ago, I'm excited about the new stadium, new coaching staff, I'm proud to tell people my son attends UNT and I now own almost as much Mean Green paraphenalia as Hog gear. WPS & GMG!!!
