  1. Glad we can be a farm system for the P5's! 😌
  2. A couple of observations (defensively)... First thing I noticed last night. Saw the 4 DL look, got happy. It worked. We got QB pressure(s) (and sack), contained the run (more often) and gave LaTech some problems. There were other times we walked down the LB to create a 4-man look and reduced the DE/DT down inside. This helped as well (but not as much as true 4 DLs). I understand the need to be in multiple fronts and show different looks throughout the course of the game. There are times when being in a 30 stack make sense. HOWEVER, inside your own 10 is not one of those times. The field is already compressed from a passing standpoint, get bigger/stronger upfront in these situations! The best way to help your DBs in passing situations is a pass rush (this from a former DB)! Prevent D (let them use up clock defense) only works if your come up and make the tackle! Finally, we have to be smarter! Giving them 30 penalty yards (clock stopped) on a PI and facemask can't happen.
  3. Until this defense shows something different, I don't know how you can feel good going into any game!
  4. Hate hate hate 3 man fronts! The only thing worse than our 3 man front is our tackling!
  5. Agreed and LaTech should show you the direction for the remainder of season. Struggle there and we've got problems ALL year!
  6. I've seen all the overreactions about this team and the new coach and congrats - you said it first. You don't know what you have or what you really need to work on until you play a game. Scrimmaging against yourself is fine but it's not the same. The big lights aren't there, the 1st team vs 1st team at the highest level isn't there. The knowing of a guy or system you played against for 3 weeks (longer including Spring) isn't there. Week 2 you make you adjustments. Week 3 is LaTech on the road (a team that always plays us good). That is the week I'm looking at to tell what this team is about. Week 1, not good, week 2 better see improvement (especially tackling), week 3 is the remainder of the season!
  7. He's a UTSA alum, so take that with anything he says.
  8. I like this because a starting position wasn't just given to a guy because you knew him and he transferred in. He was given a chance like everyone else and Stone earned it! NOW...GMG and go get a dub!
  9. RIH Rick! Good man. Will be greatly missed.
  10. Could have been the MVP of the NIT!
  11. Remember this is the same fan base that cried like bitches when Chris Beard left them to go back to his alma mater.
  12. Just surprised bc his uncle posted something about him getting 1st team All-State in late Jan. Makes better sense now.
  13. This is good to hear. However, every new coach we've had has started off his first year or two with good recruiting. This about the staff being tireless recruiters every single year! You can never stop at NT. At NT, you can never put recruiting on autopilot!
  14. You're keeping Patrick Cobbs as your running backs coach, right? Ok, that might be my second question.
  15. Knows baseball, maybe he'll bring that with him!
  16. I have NO worries about McCasland or this team. He seems to always be ready when Conference games start. It may start slow (and has in the past), but he's always had them ready when it counts the most.
  17. I've known Alex (not closely) for a long time. He and my youngest son have gone to elementary, junior high and high school together. He is super athletic, long arms, and a more importantly a great young man. Glad he's chosen to be a part of the NT family!
  18. This coaching staff's best play call for 4 and less than a yard is to snap the ball 7 yards deep and run a dive with a QB who doesn't read the end to run an option off of it! Just a 7yd straight dive! Then, just keep repeating the play hoping that it eventually works!
  19. PASS RUSH and 3-man fronts! You get pressure quick and DBs don't have to cover long. Get no pressure and it doesn't matter how good your DBs are!
