  1. Yes, and removed from MG premium; the most unreliable source ever; so for two games in a row the football game is scheduled and not shown
  2. Actually, it is on the coach to insure that he recruits players that can stay eligible.
  3. New Mexico slaughtered NT 81-59 Close through a lot of game, but New Mexico dominated the boards 51-27, and went to 5-0 over winless NT Unofficial stats, Goodwin led NT with 16 points. Dawkins 11, McCoy 10
  4. UTA is a team that NT should have absolutely no problems with, so the only thing that game will tell us if NT struggles is that this team is still having big problems.
  5. Not sure the free market has much to do with non-profits. Second, the free market in anything is more a concept than a reality.
  6. I hope not, but I fear the same thing. If academics are an issue, I much prefer this approach to the one JJ took last year.
  7. NT needs better players at about every position. TE has some capable returnees in Miller and the redshirted Prior. Marcus Smith was supposed to be the best of the underclassmen and Tanner Smith was used a lot. Not a must position for recruits but if NT continues to use 2 and 3 te sets, then it becomes more of a need. NT had a bunch of tight ends on the squad and most of them were walk ons, and several got a lot of playing time. It is a relative easy position to find players, and if NT can find a difference maker; sign him. However, with only a few ships left, I would give every one of them to the players with the best potential no matter what position. NT really does not have any positions that numbers are a big issue, so just get the best players.
  8. Actually under the current system, the bigs have nearly all of everything anyway. Why should they change. They will channel all the "majors" into four conferences (SEC, Big 10, Big 12, Pac 10) and run everything anyway. They get probably 80% of the revenue now, why change and risk having to play other teams that actually have a good chance to beat you. I wish someone or thing would actually advocate changes that would encourage competition and the health of all teams. Put a limit of coaches salaries, facilities, and limit the number of home games possible. Do away with one way coaches contracts, you sign; you complete the contract. Slow down at least a little on the foolish athletic arms race which really only benefits AD staff and primarily coaches. Anti - American and against free enterprise, not really. The pros already do some of this in the name of competition and they are for profit organizations College athletics are non-profits and are on perilous ground IMO paying HC millions of dollars while the players are considered amateurs.
  9. Any program relegated to tier 2 would be a second class program and it would be the about the end of football at NT and many other schools. Any one around during NT 1aa days, should know that being a bad fb schools is superior to a great fc school. NT and many other schools are not channeling what resources they have to be designed division 2 or whatever they may call it. However, I would expect a heck of a legal fight if the ""bigs" try this. I also doubt Sabin has a lot of support for his ideas from other programs, I think most coaches enjoy playing lesser teams with huge advantages and usually at home. The problem with segmenting the top programs, is that half of them will become losers and then what happens in the next reorganization. You end up with the NFL but without the controls that some what encourage competition.
  10. Not the start that anyone wanted, but the team is not nearly as bad as many portray. Losing to Creighton and Virginia away is something most teams would do. Sans the AH game the season is about were most thought. Now many think that no one can play, Benford is out of his depth, and NT will be lucky to go .500 in the Belt. Way to early to come to any of those conclusions. NT is definitely not the top 50 team at this point that I and many others hoped for, but neither are they no better than a .500 Belt club. Benford like JJ has not found a way to utilize TM efficiently. Many may have forgot that even Belt teams fairly well neutralized him late in the season last year. Coleman was supposed to take the pressure off and allow him to play the four and for whatever reason that has not happened. Likewise, NT bad outside shooting is allowing teams to smother Tony in the post. Jones and J. Williams are great athletes by NT standards and they have been only occasionally effective and seldom in the same game. When those gel, I think it is not a question of will but when; NT is going to be very good. Franklin and Alzee are always dependable, and Holmen is Holmen. When Patton gets completely well he will add another big weapon. JJ's teams' seldom played well till the Belt tournament, I hope for more out of Benford and this team. This team has too much talent to give up on after six games.
  11. Sleeping giant is an overused cliche when applied to NT. Rip Van Winkle's snooze was a nap compared to NT's slumber NT has not fully awakened but at long last it is at least stirring. The recent investments in college athletes have at least put NT in the same financial arena has most CUSA teams and that is definitely progress. In football, NT made the commitment to get an experienced coaching staff. Whether McCarney is the one to lead NT to a new football plateau is to be determined. If he is, great if he is not than NT hires someone else with at least a better foundation established.
  12. Not sure wr is going to be a strength but should be much improved. Hines if he indeed shows up here is one to watch as is Lancaster, who is both big and fast. Caldwell as well as Chelf are touted walk ons. Add those to Chanceller, Smith, Teagarden and Harris and at least the depth should be much better.
  13. Appreciate your reply, but I haven't seen that. He is not rushing his shoots and on many he is wide open. I have not seem any form issues, the ball is just not falling. It is a confidence problem and the more someone presses the worse it gets.
  14. It is obvious that he is in an awful shooting slump, but how do you determine that the game is moving too fast for him. I certainly can't come to that conclusion based on the times I have seen him play. Maybe you have went to the away games and have a better view at this point, but based on what I have seen sans the last game, you could say that most of the team has played poor defense. Based on my admittedly small sample of home appearances, Overlander actually moves better than I anticipated. In the Cameron game you cited, his shoots were on target but just were not falling and I didn't notice any big defensive deficities. I can't even fault Benford for playing him, when else but these early games can he evaluate players in a game atmosphere. He certainly didn't significantly bring down the level of play in either of the first two games and Cameron was a glorified exhibition. As I assumed in an earlier post and the last game tended to verify it, unless it is a blow out or NT runs out of players, Overlander is not going to get a lot of playing time till he starts making his shoots. As you stated he could develop into a good player and IMO it could be this year. A very rocky start, but some of the posts, not yours, are outrageous. The only issue I have with the above, is I wonder how you can be confident that the game is too fast for him unless you have seen a lot more than I have.
  15. Chaminade as noted has beat a lot of good teams in the Islands. I some how don't think Kansas is as distracting to a visiting team.
  16. I hate good loses but this was one. Good scrappy performance, Goodman and Hyder are going to be very good.
  17. Sounds like some home cooking on that last call.
  18. Gritty play, this team is going to make some noise
  19. I think if NT doesn't show a lot of improvement that RV better get out his short list or the BOD should look for an AD. CUSA will be a little tougher but NT is not moving to the SEC. I think McCarney has made some solid improvements but unless he can significantly up the talent level, NT is going to stay mired in the bottom half of CUSA. The scary thing about this year is the arc of the team, it is getting worse not better. IMO McCarney does not have any excuses next year, he has had enough opportunity to shape this team with his recruits and if NT remains too small, slow and unmotivated than it is his problem.
  20. Be as far down on Thompson as you please, he has not shown to be a super QB and I think that is what a lot of you expect. NT now has no speed and despite what some of you think not a lot of talent at wr. He does play McCarney style and gets rid of the ball rather than take sacks and doesn't usually make a lot of mistakes. Yes he misses open receivers and so does every other QB that has ever played, one of the problems he doesn't have as many to miss. A lot of you think very highly of Scott Hall and pan Thompson without ever considered the difference in the team around them. My guess if Scott was QB now he would be getting the same beating as Thompson. If anyone beats out Thompson next year that will be great but it won't be as easy as some think.
  21. The consolation round will give NT a great chance to redeem themselves. Two wins and the green kool aid will be flowing. A split and more debate, two loses and the melt down will be full tilt.
  22. I like the 4 blocks and 5 rebounds in 17 minutes, the 5 fouls and 3 points not so much.
  23. Nothing against a team like Cameron should be taken too serious unless the team looks bad and that didn't hapen.
  24. Now on a team that has under performed in almost all phases of the game early, a freshman that really should not be playing at this point is the focus. Overlander has no confidence in his three shot at this point, it happens. The facts are that he has been a minuscule part in NT's two loses. I am more concerned with a pre season AA who is not dominating. A team that seems uninterested in guarding against threes, has been consistently out rebounded, and a coach that is yet to find a rotation. Whether Overlander is a player is still to be determined and if he can develop into an outside thread it will really help the team, but it is hard to believe with a team that has thus far under achieved that is a big issue. Walton's injury has given him an opportunity; but unless he starts contributing his time will diminish.
