  1. Quoner- I have no idea what a concord is- I thought that was a grape, or a french airplane.
  2. The sooners are expecting the North Texas game to be a huge "blow-out" and good experience for Bradford. Well, I think this North Texas team will have a real "learning" experience for their new QB. I expect zero-u to play safe, with many basic formations and plays. I think they do not want to show too much because they play Miami the following week-end. The sooners see the North Texas game as a dress rehersel only, with their real game vs Miami. Maybe the sooners will be looking ahead? Maybe our defense can pressure the the QB into mistakes. Maybe our offense can move the chains? Maybe North Texas has a better chance to win the game than expected!
  3. Geez--are we ever to fickle--already looking into the future and guessing again. There is alot of football to be played this year so lets see how this year plays out. Vizza is a true freshman, with alot of talent. He has made huge progress in Dodge Ball, and he is just one play away from taking over a game or starting this year. As far as Vizza being on the bench, I think Coach Dodge wants to develop this kid, and not throw him into the fight too early. Get him into games at the right time. When Riley arrives, I believe he will red shirt. This will give time for Coach Dodge to recriut top players, and have a great team for Riley to run. Competition, yes, every top college and pro teams have several top players at each position, that compete against each other every day. The competition for the starting QB has been strong, and that is what you want. I do not think competition will scare off Vizza, or Riley Dodge
  4. I believe that Daniel Meagar will be very productive with this offense. I believe this offense is talor made for Daniel's skills and abilities. I was impressed with Daniel in key games (the LSU game for one) where he led the team, and was moving the chains. I have sen him break runs- he is alot faster than you think, as well as hit key passes. Daniel Meagar is a good leader for this team, and makes good decisions. My concern is will the OL gel, and provide protection to Daniel? The team is one play away from Vizza taking over a game or starting.
  5. I agree with FFR on Colt Mahan. This guy is a very good football palyer that has always been in the background, instead of the spotlight. This could be his breakout seson! I have a candidate also- Charley Brown! Even though he has just moved over to DE, Brown is going to be a natural at DE. I think this is a very good move by the coaches. With Tye Rexrode out with a injury, Brown will play more this year. Just give CB some time and DE experience, he will be a force to deal with!
  6. I am very happy for Daniel Meagar, and for Coach Dodge making a difficult decision. The team has what, 2 weeks to prepare for a tough opening game with zero-u. I am sure there are several more positions where a starter will be named soon. This team must begin practicing with the "starters" daily to be running on the same page, tune up the offensive system, and for the "starters' to gel together. I also believe the "G-man" will be getting ready to play too. If he is the back-up, he is just one play away from starting, or taking over in a game. Now, Coach Dodge can put together the remaining starters for the OL and WR's. For the defense, I think there are more questions to be answered regarding starters and back up's. I hope this puzzle can be solved quickly also.
  7. At this point of 2-a-days, I think Coach Dodge will go with Meagar. Why? Several reasons. Meagar is the most "vetran" QB, having started several times, played against several top college teams, veteran-older and more mature, seems to be in control of the new offense, and since day one of the Dodge Ball begining, Meagar has been "starting". Coach Dodge has a scoring system that measures QB performance, the fact Coach Dodge has coached QB's all of his career and knows how to handle QB's, and follows what all coaches do-- gut feeling. Nothing against Vizza, who will be a top D1 QB, I just think Coach Dodge will play it safe right now, and go with the most college game experienced QB, Daniel Meagar.
  8. Jamario Thomas-- Coach Dodge stated "I already know what Jamario can do!". This sounds like Coach Dodge is "resting" JT, and letting the other RB's work. I do like Devin Cox and Micha Mosley working hard with the offense. Cam Montgomery- not too much reported on Cam. This guy is talented. I cannot believe he is #4 in the depth chart. Red shirt Cam? I do not think so. I wonder what is going on with Cam? Qb's-- Coach Dodge stated " I know QB's and how to handle them. I have been coaching QB's all of my career" I am beginning to believe Coach Dodge will go with Meagar, because he is the most seasoned QB, has played against many top programs, and seems to be in good contol of the offense at this point. Does not mean he is the starter, just my guess. Defense- well, at one point Coach Dodge stated the defense was "pretty stinking good". Every scrimage I read about, the offense scores 5 touchdowns. For the scrimage on Sat- Meagar lead 3 scores, Vizza lead for 2, plus Mosley ran a 20yd TD in. The Defense is vetran based, but, our offense seems to score alot. Is this good or bad? OL/DL moves--I think more shifting will come. I was wondering about Gill. I thought he might go to DE also. He has good height for OT, but, really needs to hit the weight, bulk up, and has alot to learn for the position. Sept 1st is around the corner. Seems there are many questions yet to be answered. This week will be a critical decision making week, so I say let the staff solve the puzzles.
  9. I had to read the part about the 3 road games twice. $mu is going to "pony up" and pay for TV coverage for 3 road games, along with Bennett's TV show? Is this correct?
  10. I am there with you! For some unknown reason, the Coach Dodge "Karma" seems to keep visualizing a major upset in my mind!
  11. Yes! I am glad he is back! I hope everything works out for Gilmore. I hope he can pick up where he left off last spring. I do like the move Coach Dodge made with Charley Brown changing from WR to DE. I believe Brown will develop into top DE for the Mean Green! Looks like the D will have a 2-deep rotation at DE this year!
  12. Yeah--you are right about the tid bits of info BV gives out. I just thought he would have a better perspective of our Mean Green. So, are we to believe that NT will get hammered by zero-u, because BV says so?
  13. What Vito say's -- I really do not have much stock in some of his expertise and reporting. Since he thinks he is a extremely good judge of football talent, and a major college football coach/analyist, he thinks he knows the quality of our OL. Even our own DRC sports writer has a crappy opinion on this team! Gee, thanks alot Vito! I prefer to believe in Coach Dodge, Coach Mendoza, Coach Ford, Coach Spencer "Lefty" Leftwich, and the entire North Texas football staff, and the North Texas football players. I am sure these guys have a better evaluation of the team than some second rate sports writer!
  14. Thank You, Greenbat! Great research and very good information! I see why thee guys are on the roster! Very talented bunch of kids! Thanks again!
  15. Good centers are alway welcome. Yes, Andy Brewster was a very good center that was not that big. I remember Bob Stout, played center for Hayden Fry. Bob was about 6-0, 250lbs, strong as a bull, and fast. He would take on LB's and OG's that were bigger than he was, only Bob would win the battle!
  16. A new topic and something different besides a new stadium, closed/open practices, and the crying media/press coverage. I am just making a "guess" on the 2 deep OL players. Please add any corrections as to position, who is the starter and back up's. Starters are first, then 2nd string, and third string or the guy can play another position also. R-OT, Robert Peachy, 6-5,279lbs, Brian Carlson, 6-5, 280lbs Back up, Jacob Kaiser, 6-7, 293lbs R-OG, Santiago Esteban, 6-5, 302lbs, Tyler Bailey, 6-2, 275lbs Back up, Ajani Banks, 6-3, 328lbs C----, Kelvin Drake, 6-2, 310lbs, Brian Glass, 6-0, 280lbs Back up, J. J. Johnson, 6-2, 278lbs L-OG, Chard Rose, 6-3, 285lbs, Tyler Bailey, 6-2, 275lbs Back up, Ajani Banks R-OT, Adam Venagas, 6-3, 293lbs, Mathew Menard, 6-5, 279lbs Back up, Jacob Kaiser Deep Snapper, Christian Davidson, LB, 6-3, 220lbs (sure looked bigger in the spring game! Back up--?? I think Ajani Banks can be a starter later on, but for now he is a back up. How does this line up look, 3 weeks away form zero-u?
  17. I just reviewed the updated roster off MGS, and found some new players that I did not reconize. Any bio-info on these players? 1. Fr- Brett Barrow, WR, 6-2, 168lbs, Pebble Beach CA (Brownwood TX HS) 2. Fr- Bradley Davidson, OL, 6-0, 238lbs, Justin TX-Northwest HS 3. Fr- Kevin dickerson, WR, 5-10, 187lbs, Ft Worth Calvary Christian Academy 4. Fr- Troy Kokjohn, OL, 6-2, 258lbs, Carrollton TX-Hebron HS 5. Fr- Baline McBride, OL, 6-0, 245lbs, Carrollton TX-Hebron HS 6. Fr- Kenneth Okonkwo, DE, 6-2, 230lbs, Richardson TX-Berkner HS I am assuming these guys are walk-on's. The 3 OL guys seem a little "small" for the OL. The 3 walk-on P/K's are listed, Clayton, Moreland, and Deans. Kaiser and Roman are listed also.
  18. Charley Brown at DE is a hugh plus. I really think he can become a major DE player! For Banks, yes I agree he should have been in the starting rotation last year. If he can "catch up" quickly at OG, this will give the OL much needed depth. Now, for Ross, at 6-3, bulked up to 280lbs, I hope the staff can try him at DT or NT. I can see this guy getting much bigger and stronger. A natural for DT or NT.
  19. I found this story on the "BlueRaiderZone.com". DRC blog Aug 15, 2007. The DRC sports writer, Gary Payne, and a NT alum, has his story about not being able to watch NT practice, not being allowed into the practice area, and crying about Coach Dodge's rules. What a jerk to be a NT alum! http:colleges.beloblog.com/archives/2007/08/dodge_needs_to_play_nice_at_north_texas.htn I hope this comes up for you guys to read. If it does not come up, please help-
  20. Yes, that is good news about Charley Brown-I am worried about the blocking abilities of the OL. Charley has not played DE since HS, and he gets in for 2 sacks! I hope he was playing aginst the 1st team OL. So deos this mean our OL may have some problems or is CB going to be a terriffice DE. I say he will be a outstanding DE!
  21. Very good news! I hope these 2 are in shape. I noticed that Ross was listed on the current roster at 6-3, 280lbs. I wonder if he can move from DE to NT or DT? Banks-- can he work into shape, and learn the new assignments quickly? I sure hope so. He could be a vaule as a backup OG. With Gilmore possibly out, and Tye Rexrode recovering from a injury- I am glad the staff moved Charley Brown from TE/WR to DE. I would like for Charley to get alot of reps and play time this year! I believe he could be a real BAD A** at DE! Let him catch the ball carrier, he will do the rest!
  22. Well, off the FAU board, the Owls are fired up about finalizing a deal with the Univ of Texas. The owls will go to Austin, to open the 2008 season on Sept 8th. The resaon I posted this, Mack Brown states he wants to play SBC teams! Well, he is true to his word. The whornes have played NT, LaLafayette, and have Ark state this year, now FAU for 2008. All season openers. Interesting. http://fausports.proboards25.com/index.cgi?board=general
  23. If our head football coach wants his practices closed to the public, that is his choice. I will back what ever Coach Dodge wants! I am sure he has his reasons for closing practice to NT fans, and everyone else. I want the players to focus on learning their assignments, positions, offense and defense schemes, and how to play Dodge Ball. The players need all the teaching and coaching they can handle right now. This time is very critical to the development of the whole football team, so let the staff do their job. I believe Coach Dodge will open up the practice restrictions after the season has started.
  24. My personal opinion is not to throw tortilla's or anything else. Looks trashy, cheap, high schoolish, and leaves a mess all over the place. I believe the fans of North Texas can develop a better "tradition" for each touchdown scored! Show some class folks, not trash!
  25. "What Coach Dodge wants" - Here is the "what if game" What if GV earns the starting QB position. What happens if GV starts and things start going bad- fumbles, interceptions, missed open receivers, etc. Is this what Coach Dodge wants? No it is not. I think Coach Dodge will bench the QB if his performance is not good, and send in QB #2. I like Vizza, he is a tremendous talent, a play maker, competitive, and I am thrilled to have him. I am just worried about a true freshman QB facing the monster defense of OU to start his career. Yes, I think Vizza needs to get into a game, get some college game experience, and some measure of success. I just think OU game is not the best starting point for Vizza. I think the SMU or FAU game in Denton would be the best point to get Vizza into a game.
