  1. Darrell Dickey with an updated offense (meaning Ramon F. gets the ax) and as a hard-working recruiter would not be so bad. Of course, those are two huge contingencies that have almost zero percent chance of happening. But if he made those two changes I would be happy to have him back. A lot about the program under his leadership has sucked, but he has beaten Tx Tech, Baylor and SMU along with winning four conference titles and a bowl game. I attended UNT during the end of the Matt Simon era and the beginning of Dickeyball.
  2. Mitchell (whose 51 carries is a decent sample size) has a career yard-per-carry average better than: Cedric Benson, Texas, 4.98 ypc Marcus Allen, USC, 5.24 ypc Herschel Walker, Georgia, 5.29 ypc I’m not saying Mitchell should have won a Heisman while he was here, but he has proven he should be a bigger part of the offense than he has been.
  3. I would gladly take Dickey back next season if he would update his offense to this millenium and actually try to recruit a decent class.
  4. Looks like Tune's mommy or daddy got on the message board. Tune looked great in the all-star game. I hope he is the Mean Green version of Colt McCoy. We'll see...
  5. Lawyers certainly make more money than jazz musicians and teachers. Let's get this law school started and watch the big donations start rolling in!
  6. With SuperJamario running more like Princess Toadstool this season, is anyone else wondering why James Mitchell isn’t getting more carries? The guy always, always, always falls forward. I’ve never seen him lose yardage. Not even at practice. Heck, over his career he has gained 273 yards on 51 carries. That’s 5.3 yards a carry!!! That's better than: Cedric Benson, Texas, 4.98 ypc Marcus Allen, USC, 5.24 ypc Herschel Walker, Georgia, 5.29 ypc If Jamario or Patrick Cobbs is leading the nation in rushing I don’t mind having that type of production wasting away on the bench, but that is hardly the case this season. Jamario and Evan Robertson are averaging less than 4 yards a carry this year. With our offensive line, it would seem a runner who can make something out of nothing would be more valuable. I know Mitchell is utilized on special teams and as a lead blocker, but we could kinda use his talent with the ball in his hands, too. Did you see how hard he hit the hole when he finally got a carry against La Tech? Remember when he exploded for 166 yards rushing in the mud against Arkansas State two years ago? There is not enough talent on this team to keep the ball out of James Mitchell’s hands. P.S. – Can anyone else believe Dickey uses the most run-based offense in the state of Texas but couldn’t even sign a single running back to play in it last year. Wow!!! Pick it up Darrell!
  7. We’re stuck with Dickey for one more year. Which means we’re stuck with one more Dickey recruiting class. There is no excuse for Dickey to strikeout on a blue-chip quarterback recruit again this year. Of the nine other Division I-A schools in Texas, six are starting a freshman or sophomore quarterback this season and all of them are having some degree of success. Plus, Texas’ Jevan Snead is rumored to be transferring to Houston. Which means, if a QB recruit wants a good shot at playing college football in the state of Texas anytime soon his best choices are UTEP, TCU and UNT. Starting QBs at D-1A Texas colleges Texas – Colt McCoy, Freshman Baylor – Blake Szymanski, Freshman SMU – Justin Willis, Freshman Rice – Chase Clement, Sophomore Texas A&M – Stephen McGee, Sophomore Texas Tech -- Graham Harrell, Sophomore Houston – Kevin Kolb, Senior UTEP – Jordan Palmer, Senior TCU – Jeff Ballard, Senior We have to find a way to get a decent QB in Denton. 13 interceptions to 7 touchdown passes isn’t cutting it. I can’t believe we’re spending four scholarships on QBs this season and getting this type of production. Some of those guys have to go. I say move Woody to defensive back, running back or wide receiver. Run off Meager. Keep developing Tune and hold on to Phillips. He might just have a little something. We need to bring in two legitimate D-1A quarterbacks in this recruiting class, maybe one should even be a juco. It sure would help if we ran an offense that was invented after leather helmets went out of style. But what are you going to do? There has never been a better opportunity to sell a young quarterback on the whole “come here and have a chance to play right away” pitch.
  8. If we had been blown out then I could call for Dickey's head. But the coaching wasn't the problem tonight. The whole Green Unit deal was freaking genius! We just had some bad bounces and lost. Can't blame Darrell.
  9. A close loss just hurts too much. Something needs to change with this program.
  10. This is the first idea this year that I've agreed with Dickey on. Go Green Team!!!!
  11. If UNT installed the right system (ie. the Tx Tech offense) you can overcome a few bad recruiting classes quickly and compete because your schemes are superior to your competition even if your talent isn't. Hire Sonny Dykes!
  12. Bring on Sonny Dykes! That Texas Tech-style passing attack would get the Dentonites off their couches on a Saturday afternoon and fill up the stands. Wide receiver is also the easiest position to recruit, which means we could make a quick turnaround and get some new talent on the field quickly. Plus, Dykes brings some serious name recognition across the state that would also help with recruiting. To top it all off, Tech's back-up QB (who lost out to Graham Harrell and is doomed to the bench for two more years in Lubbock) is a stud and might want to follow Dykes to Denton. Who is with me?
