Prediction: UNT vs. Minnesota in Heart of Dallas Bowl
TheColonyEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Harry and Cerebus. Love ya. But there is absolutely ZERO chance an unbeaten Marshall team gets in the playoff. I would love to see it. But a 2 loss Bama or LSU, etc. gets in the playoff before Marshall. Their schedule is not going to get it done. Again, would love it. But impossible with their schedule. -
UNT’s helmet for the 2014 season finalized
TheColonyEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Anyone know if/when mini helmets are going to be available? Would love the green/black (Rice/UTEP game) black/green (HOD Bowl) versions as well.- 126 replies

UNT Game Rumor from UT Longhorn Camp
TheColonyEagle replied to Don Allman's topic in Mean Green Football
It's the "Hit 50" that's a little strange to me. "Pound them, destroy them, don't let up, we get a lead we're not going to take our foot off the gas" That I would expect. Go score 50 on them just seems a little more than cocky to me. -
UNT Game Rumor from UT Longhorn Camp
TheColonyEagle replied to Don Allman's topic in Mean Green Football
Well.....If that's true.....(big IF) you can see the amount of respect Strong has for a man he used to work with. He must not think much about Mac or the job he's done here. A late TD by Georgia got them to 42 after we were tied with them midway 3rd qtr. That was the #9 ranked team in the country with more talent and established coaching staff. And now it's "just hit 50" No big deal. Just do it. I've seen articles where the team is talking about BYU, the coach is not focusing just on winning against us but by how many points. Let's you know that if they DO get up big they're gonna try to run it up. We shall see. -
Laramie Lee He scares me

I'm starting to get a little excited about the possibility of Greer starting. If the coaches name him starter that means he's getting the offense and they like the other qualities he brings (decision making, leadership, etc.) So we get a QB that passes the Mac test that is also (by all accounts) a big, accurate, strong armed D1 sized QB. We've had big armed and athletic QBs We've had a smart QB that understood the offense and had the trust of his teammates. I'm not sure we've had both under McCarney….

That's funny. JUST turned it on that channel and they're showing the Tulane game. This #7 just threw a pick.

Comparisons of QB's David Ash and Josh Greer
TheColonyEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Agree. Don't see McNulty being an improvement over DT. I can possibly see Greer being an improvement given his tools. Gonna be all about the other "DT" stuff though. But yes, if McNulty is our best option, I may be a title concerned that no one has moved to the top. -

Greer's at least played against several players that are at FBS schools now. I'll trust the coaching staff to make the right decision but my guess is, If it's McNulty that is named starter, then Greer hasn't satisfied the coaches in his learning of the system. Just a guess on my part. An uneducated one at that. -

I ask that because it appears he has some intangibles...... We've had more athletic/bigger armed QBs that DT. But the coaches liked his intangibles. Roll your eyes all you want but leadership, getting the team to buy in is important for a QB. Berglund for whatever reason couldn't get it done. Despite his physical advantages. Jury's still out on Williams. Greer seems like the real deal physically. If he already is popular on the team and earning respect of his teammates, check that off too. So can he run the offense and make the right decisions. That's the final question I would have.... I would like to see a QB with his size and skills master the offense and lead the team. Hope it works out. -

Harry, When did Greer get to campus and start working out with the team? Wondering how long he's been in the system/learning the play book. -
Why the hell are you not wearing your Mean Green Polo in Munich?

Norm had a segment on the split. And his comment was, make no mistake…..there was a definite split yesterday. He talked about UNT, SMU, Boise, Cincinnati, etc. Good or growing programs that are basically screwed. Then he pointed out the "lucky" programs: TCU was the first school he named, Utah, Rutgers, etc. They're in. Not necessarily because of substance but because they're in the power conferences period. (I'm not downplaying what TCU has accomplished….) But that's what really sucks about the whole thing……what determines if you're "in?" Maddening….. Of the 64 "at the table" really 20 or so programs run it. How long before Alabama, Texas, USC, etc decide they don't want Vanderbilt, Iowa St, Utah, TCU, Rutgers, Indiana, etc? The blatantness of the greed is what's amazing….

Six questions for North Texas training camp
TheColonyEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
And I'll add.... That's not necessarily a bad thing.....as long as it's working. The frustrating thing to watch is when it doesn't work. And they don't change it up. See Tulane last year. This OLine better be as good as advertised. They're gonna have to dominate early in the year. -
Six questions for North Texas training camp
TheColonyEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I will be SHOCKED if McNulty is not the starting QB. He knows the offense better than the others. That puts him at #1 with this staff. Get ready for some really conservative football....especially early in the season. Too many question marks with the lack of starting experience returning. This OLine, with the returning RBs (Jimmy & Peagram), inexperienced QB, inexperienced starting front 7, McCarney's hatred of turnovers, and unproven special teams play makers = run run run run run and run some more. -
The Tulsa game. Ugh. That was my girlfriend at the time's first game. I told her how awesome our RBs were. "You will enjoy the game" Got a safety in the 1st qtr. Up 2-0. Then they scored 54 unanswered. She ended up marrying me anyway....

Can we beat this on the Wing for SMU?
TheColonyEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Sumlin commented after the opener about the difficulty communicating because of the noise. It will be more packed for the home opener this year. And louder. I did a quick broad count of the "dots" on the seating chart in ticketmaster. Looked like maybe 100-200 seats available besides the end zone. -
We have to win this game because we simply have a better football team. We will be favored on the 6th. If SMU wins this game it will be an upset. That's why we have to win.

Brett Vito Part I: Can UNT football maintain momentum
TheColonyEagle replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
As for the potential comparison to La Tech's disappointing season following 2012, the biggest difference in the two programs is our coaching staff and system are intact….they lost a boat load of players and then brought in a new coach, staff and system. that's a tough combo... I feel good about the system and buy in that is in place here. -
I have a feeling in 20 years….I won't be a college football fan anymore. And that sucks.

"There's also a very strong feeling that whatever is done needs to be education-based, and good for student-athletes." That's hilarious...
