  1. I've always really liked the Alabama helmets. They look sharp because they're so simple, so I wouldn't mind going to something similar.
  2. Could the McCarney hire already have a positive impact by helping us into a better conference?
  3. WOW!! I knew they may move, but I didn't expect it to happen this soon.
  4. Please no. The last thing we need with a bad hire is to change our colors yet again.
  5. I've always been a huge RV supporter, but this hire really frustrates me. I know we are just fans and we may not know all the X's & O's, but how can you offer a position to a coach and not really consider your fan base? We are the ones who donate our money and time into the program and frankly I feel a little betrayed. Here we have a young, passionate coach with lots of coaching experience both at the college and professional level, and we hire a coach has to "think" about moving for the job? This is a huge risk and I would even goes as far as to say that it is a bigger risk than the Todd Dodge hire. Here are a few reasons why this could be disastrous: 1) Players wanted Canales and believed in him. I don't think McCarney is going to be able to come in and gain the trust of these players in order to show progress as soon as we all would hope for. 2) We just offered a coach the highest salary ever at UNT, which means he damn well better produce.....and quick. I think the fans will only give RV and McCarney a leash of 3 years before we're calling for both their heads. 3) Hypothetical Situation: New apathetic coach who isn't producing, new $70 million dollar football stadium paid for mostly by students, players who are not on board = UNT loses alll the steam it built over the past year or two and significantly reduces it's chances of ultimately getting into a better conference. Again, I'm still an RV supporter but if this hire isn't right than I think he's gone. We're not a forgiving fan base and we will be very upset if Canales goes to another school and has major success. As the AD of a D1 university, you must find common ground between what's good for the program and what's good for the fan base/donors, and this hire completely misses on both.
  6. Im in denial until it comes from RV's mouth. When that happens I will be really disappointed in RV, Lane Rawlins, and Neinas.
  7. The potential McCarney showed after 5 years at ISU, Canales has showed in 5 games.
  8. After McCarney's 4-5 year tenure, who should we bring in as HC?
  9. I don't know much about the hiring process, but for them to name a coach so quickly and considering we haven't heard about any interviews, I would chance to say that it is Canales.
  10. This just mean he's going to have to attend every game. Don't be lazy.
  11. Gave me a much needed laugh this morning.
  12. Exactly. I don't want to be second choice to anybody. He had his chance coming out of high school. Plus we don't the drama his dad brings.
  13. I have confirmation from a solid source that Canales was actually behind this. He's initiatives not only include turning the teams success around, but also to completely eliminate the element of their fanbase. Apparently he's a hardcore computer nerd.
  14. Newsflash: We are not relevant in the Sun Belt and haven't been for 4 years.
  15. I don't disagree with you on this at all. That is definitely the upside, but at the end of the day the players are the ones who have to execute the plans...and to be honest I don't know that we have the players who can execute.
  16. Yes I do. Look we have great things happening around North Texas, but our football team is not exactly mediocre. We have a long ways to go in order to be good....plain and simple. Just curious, what are the reason it won't take long? It took him years to build USF, not 1-2.
  17. I know Leach is out of our range, but crazier things have happened. I would be ok with Leavitt, but I wouldn't be overly excited. Just my opinion.
  18. Here's my one big concern with hiring Leavitt....the fact that it may take another at least 3-4 years in order for us to see significant results. Call me impatient, but I really think a higher profile coach like Leach will immediately boost the quality of recruits and expedite the process. Frankly, I think it would be in RV's best interest to win now.
  19. You sir are delusional if you think Dodge had nothing to do with those. He was put in charge of cleaning up after Dickey, which was no easy task.
  20. I wasn't, that big of a Leach fan, but I may have just changed my mind. Imagine the buzz around that hire (some good, some bad), not to mention the recruits and opening game in the new stadium. With SMU making strides in football, we need a hire like this to squash their pride and win over the metroplex. Think about what RV said about the home team campaign....Leach would definitely help with this.
