  2. If you haven't... hit Port O' Call for sure... but expect to wait crammed inside or on the street (there are many things worse in life than drinking a Huma Huma and waiting for a table with friends on the beautiful sidewalks of Esplanade) Also since the storms I have been breakfasting at the Bluebird Cafe' on Prytania St. I miss Camilla Grill horribly.. hopefully Marvin and the crew will be back. I have heard they might relocate, but I hear a lot more that they are gone forever. Which would be a shame because the streetcar ride is one of the best parts! "Flip it up!" "Word." Other suggestions include The Old Coffee Pot off Bourbon, Commander's Palace and if you are taking your rich Granny she will want to hit Antoine's although last time I ate there I was sorely disappointed in everything but the Potato Souffle which is fancy puffed French fries. Also, Acme is good for a drink and some fried seafood. If you are taking someone special and are on a budget I would recommend Mona Lisa in the 1200 block of Royal St. Call to make sure they are open, but its a fantastic little Italian place decorated with tons of different renditions of its namesake. Fun places to have a drink. The Carousel bar at the Hotel Monteleone, Laffitte's Blacksmith Shop on Bourbon (my fav bourbon street bar) and Molly's at the Market on Decatur St. Take Care, Shane
  3. I will be at Molly's at the Market on Decatur on Thursday night with all the cool kids (actually, local journalists and my local friends mostly) Utopia is a dance club with a little courtyard at the front. Cat's Meow is a Karaoke bar. Pat O's is a college type party bar with a large courtyard. Fritzell's is an overpriced jazz club that is a good ways down Bourbon. Johnny Whites.... well...I covered to much of the hurricane to ever drink in that place again... I know the city fairly well, if you have any questions about any others I can try and answer. My suggestion would be Utopia or Pat O's....both have a decent atmosphere, are easy to find (big, bright signs) and Pat O's is of course one of the fav tourist joints. If none of those fits you..... I would suggest Big Daddy's Bottomless Topless. HA! Shane
  4. I am coming in from Shreveport and picking The Jaydub up at the airport. Seeya, ShaneB
  5. Agreed with the Dub... Lots of things are "free." Speech, right to bear arms, sex with the dirty girl down the hall.... just because they are free, doesn't mean they don't come with a price. In this society, the price for stupidity is ridicule; especially if you are a public figure. ShaneB
  6. I just hope that vacuum didn't suck any brainpower from our new coach. Shane
  7. Unless you are a total couch slob, I can think of one or two things to be done in Idaho on the weekends in the fall. All kidding aside. The games have been hugely popular even before they started winning consistently. My dad used to live up there and he went all the time, and he never goes to anything but a Baylor game for the most part. They used to be like a three ring circus. Dog who retrieved the kickoff tee, fireworks at every game, blue turf, etc.....
  8. Hey Harry... hadnt bee around in a bit... but I still read all the time.... if you get a chance
  9. This is an interesting contract... I esp like the part about the season tickets.
  10. A terrible loss for the journalism department and the university.
  11. "Okay, okay, we have a nine percent chance of getting Shula at UNT. Does that clarify the situation?"
  12. Late december to start talking to a HC candidate? Thats way way way too late IMHO.
  13. Dolphins | Cobbs could get promoted for Week 12 game Sat, 25 Nov 2006 11:26:58 -0800 Greg Bedard, of the Palm Beach Post, reports Miami Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown (hand) is out for the Week 12 game, leaving RBs Sammy Morris and Travis Minor as the only two running backs on the active roster. Head coach Nick Saban said the team would not play the Jacksonville Jaguars with just two running backs on the roster. RB Patrick Cobbs is on the practice squad and could get promoted for the game.
  14. A bio that I found online... interesting stuff. Alan H. Goldfield is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of CellStar Corporation, a global provider, and the largest wholesaler in the world with logistics, fulfillment, and consumer activation of cellular phones that generated revenues of over 2.3 billion U.S. Dollars in 1999. He founded National Tape and Record Center in 1969 which grew from a local company in Dallas, Texas to become CellStar with international market dominance. Al Goldfield in his key role at CellStar is an industry leader heading up the many innovative and creative services for the numerous wireless communications products the Company has to offer. Mr. Goldfield serves as an officer and director of the company. As an avid sports supporter and enthusiast, he played professional baseball as pitcher for the Houston Baseball Club from Fall 1961 through Fall 1965 in their minor league system. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was close enough early in life to know firsthand about the Ellis Island experience. His father, the late Herman (Hy) Goldfield, left his native Austria and arrived at Ellis Island in 1920. Mr. Goldfield, has been married to his wife Shirley since 1972, and they have three sons, Michael, age 26; Brian, age 25; and Richard, age 23. Mr. and Mrs. Goldfield live on a ranch in Texas. The Goldfield family is also very involved in many charitable and civic activities in the North Texas area.
  15. And thats the most important news of all!
  16. Fantastic news! Great to hear that things are starting to build. Shane
  17. Part of the problem I have with the story is the lack of information on the sun belt and more importantly the uniform sponsors (reebok? NB? I can't remember who it is this year) I would think that because they are paid sponsors there would be contractual obligations to use their gear. Maybe not? I trust that there was no NCAA violation as reported. The correction that I requested was on the statement that I accused anything. I simply asked if there was a violation or contract problem... thats all. That is what I am upset about and as far as I know that the only thing incorrect in this story. For clarity... I have not investigated or accused anything... I only posed the question. I expect the reporters covering the situation will do the research. Shane
  18. Yes it was... any bad feeling I had for him is now gone. that was childish... and if it was the players idea... its his fault for OKing it.
  19. roommate just called me in to watch it... we agreed it made MM look like a child and cast the University in a bad light too (not Rome's take, just the whole situation) I'll be glad when we hire a stellar coach and can get national press on that basis instead. ShaneB
  20. you don't accomplish the things he has without taking advantage of every opportunity. I am sure he is upset about Dickey... but he realizes the full impact... be sure of that.
  21. I don't know who it is... but I hope this is MM's arch nemesis. Imagine the press! ShaneB
