  1. That non-call was terrible. The defender mugged him.
  2. I watched that play on Tivo a bunch of times. At the point of your first picture, he didn't have control of the ball yet, so his knee being down didn't matter. He had to cradle the ball and keep it off the turf, which he did, and by that time was either over the goal line or extremely close to it.
  3. You keep making this about academics, but I'm not talking about academics. Some people point out that Troy and ULM have an advantage because they don't have to follow the APR. But even with that advantage, would anyone want to trade places with them considering their other disadvantages?
  4. So by your comment, you'd rather be Troy University than UNT. Smaller endowment, smaller enrollment and a poorer economic area to draw students from. Seems like a bad trade to me.
  5. Would anyone here trade places with Troy and Louisiana-Monroe, though?
  6. Kentucky's not chopped liver. They're in the SEC, which has that massive TV deal, and pay the current coach $1.25 million.
  7. Well said. UNT football fans who crap on the rest of the university have no right to complain if they don't think the team's getting enough on-campus support. We should take pride in everything that's good about the university.
  8. It's not an either/or proposition. But UNT has been an acclaimed music school for 70 years. We won't be an acclaimed football school for 70 years until 2080 at the earliest. Maybe it's time to respect some of what we have, instead of trashing it because of what we'd like to have in athletics.
  9. Anyone who doesn't know about UNT's school of music doesn't know jack about UNT and should be disqualified from being taken seriously on the subject. The prominence and size of UNT's music program is one of the main things that distinguishes the school from every other public university in the state. Denigrating that is just foolish.
  10. Considering how much has gone wrong with UNT athletics, it's a shame that we're ragging on our band, which has to be one of the most talented musically in the country. UNT has the largest school of music in the nation by enrollment and the band is a reflection of that status. Playing "Fly Like an Eagle" is a tradition that goes back at least to the '80s and probably longer, so it's strange for tradition-minded fans to suggest they stop playing it.
  11. Which is it, though? On Saturday he had health problems so pressing that it was the right decision to quit Florida entirely and his daughter had her daddy back. On Sunday his health problems required a leave of absence but he'd probably be back for the 2010 season and his daughter was SOL. Meyer should do what's right for himself. But this instability seems like it will kill them in recruiting. What top blue chip prospect is going to pick Florida while Meyer's status is an open question?
  12. I think that's crazy. Maybe if we'd continued to romp through the Sun Belt for the last four years the way we did the previous four, and we had higher local interest and national exposure. But for now we're one of the worst teams in the worst conference, and the new stadium and DFW TV market aren't enough.
  13. There's no way in hell Arkansas leaves the SEC. The SEC's TV deal is an enormous financial boon to all of its member schools.
  14. Yep. But the most I'd expect to happen with North Texas is to move to a conference that loses teams to an auto-bid conference.
  15. It was hard to type the word "nearly." Roll Tide.
  16. Glad to see a fellow Berkner Ram coming to Denton. It's also the high school of Scott Davis, the UNT quarterback who nearly beat the Longhorns in the '80s.
  17. Dickey's exit here was classless, but I hope he gets another head coaching gig somewhere to see if he can recreate the four-year title run he had in Denton. Maybe he's learned something by how things fell apart at UNT. It also would be good to see Diet Coke boy find work in this economy.
  18. That's some brilliant logic. Fans don't know what they are talking about when they criticize the coach, but you know what you're talking about when you support him. Since you know the team will put it together, how about going on the record with how many games UNT will win next year?
  19. The fact he can use a redshirt in the future doesn't change the fact that he played on THE LAST THREE OFFENSIVE SNAPS OF 2009 and it cost him an entire season of eligibility. That's where the beef is, dude.
  20. Thompson deserves a shot to compete with Tune for the backup job. Dodge owes him that much after burning a year of his eligibility on one series in one game.
  21. I call BS on that one. Even the best high school team is slow and small compared to the worst FBS teams. You really are working hard to denigrate Dickey's tenure if you think the Sun Belt was a bunch of high school-caliber teams out there.
  22. There was criticism of players and coaches back then, but for every fan who didn't think four Sun Belt titles in a row was enough, there must have been 10 fans who were ecstatic about the success of the team and its first bowl trip in 40 years. As someone who began following North Texas when I arrived at the school in 1987, I thought Dickey's four-year run through the Belt was the greatest thing I'd ever seen in UNT sports. I loved those teams. Dickey's mistake was that when the going got tough, he treated all fans like they were the ones who were impossible to please and voiced the harshest criticism. He alienated a lot of alums like myself, who had been a solid supporter of his teams but got tired of him badmouthing all fans and the university. When he kept at it with the us-vs-them BS, he pushed me further and further into the them camp. I can't support a coach who holds a grudge against the school's own fans and never stops reminding people that he feels that way.
  23. I love the use of "no offense" there. I hope it catches on here. You are dumb and your mother dresses you funny. No offense. Your children have markedly low test scores and do poorly on the 12-minute run walk. No offense. Your great-grandmother had a mustache and gave unconvincing performances in stag films. No offense.
  24. I don't think there is a chance in hell that UNT wins 7 games next year. But I think RV (and many fans) will accept a lower win total as evidence of a turnaround, contrary to what RV just said.
  25. I'm glad your son signed with UNT and sorry his time on the team wasn't like the four years that preceded it. But regarding the stuff about Dickey, coaches take some fan abuse at every college football program in the country. Winners rise above it -- losers use it as an excuse. When Darrel Dickey started using fans as a scapegoat, that was the point at which his program began circling the drain. Anyone who thinks the Mean Green Nation is tough on its players and coaches should come out here to Florida. You have no idea how hard Florida and FSU fans can be when things aren't going well.
