  1. If Dodge left UNT high schools in Texas would be beating down his door to hire him. I have sympathy for him and the players, but let's not get carried away. He'd do just fine.
  2. When do you ever see coaches opening vying for another coach's job? We won't hear any of that talk unless Dodge is fired.
  3. Until we start playing the Sun Belt, it is premature to rule out the possibility of another Dickey-like run through the conference.
  4. Neither my dollars, nor my patience, are infinite. I know there are costs to NT if donors bail. But I am nearing the end of my rope as a NT supporter. If Dodge doesn't turn it around this year and somehow gets extended another season, I'm gone baby gone.
  5. Darrel Dickey also achieved at NT. Four conference titles, the first bowl trip in 40-plus years and first bowl win, and a long conference winning streak all are significant. I don't think the stadium would have been built without the success of Dickey's run. I also wonder whether Dodge would have come back to NT without it.
  6. Coaches leave all the time for greener pastures. I don't fault a student athlete for leaving a program because he thought he had better opportunities elsewhere. Though in Vizza's case, it doesn't appear to have worked out. He's not on the Texas A&M roster at all this year, as far as I can tell.
  7. Then I am an awful, awful person. I ain't paying jack for any more 1- and 2-win seasons. Student-athletes earn scholarships by being good at their sports. If they play poorly, their scholarship spot is not guaranteed for four years. It will be given to someone else. This isn't a bunch of third graders in YMCA football. They're adults who know their scholarships are tied to on-field success. If the MGC funds fewer scholarships next year because the team racked up another dismal season, them's the breaks.
  8. That was hilariously awkward. One for the GMG blooper reel.
  9. To answer the question posed by this topic, UNT doesn't get another dollar of my money until Dodge wins 7 games this season or we hire a name coach with FBS experience. I let my MGC membership lapse because I was tired of the sorry-ass results we've been getting in football.
  10. Anyone who thinks that Coach Dodge has always conducted himself with class at UNT needs to read what happened to Taylor Insall: http://www.gomeangre...opic=32585&st=0 Insall, a center at Cooper High in Abilene, was recruited by UNT when Dickey was coach. He turned down UTEP and gave UNT a verbal commitment. After Dodge became coach, Insall and the Cooper coach tried to contact Dodge repeatedly. When they finally got a hold of him, Dodge didn't want to see Insall or talk to him. He had zero interest in honoring the commitment. The ending of the article addresses Dodge directly:
  11. Now you're just trolling. When Dodge goes, I hope you will follow him. If I understand correctly, you don't contribute to the Mean Green Club. It's not your place to dog somebody who has been a member because he's tired of throwing good money after bad.
  12. Ridiculous. He threw for 5,000 yards in two seasons and decided he didn't want to warm the bench behind Riley Dodge. Looking at the product we've put on the field, who can blame him?
  13. What if my erection has lasted longer than four hours?
  14. You sound exactly like you did when Dodge was named. It's like the last four years never happened and results don't matter at all. Dodge hasn't recruited well. His teams have never equaled, much less surpassed, the season that got Dickey fired.
  15. That's a great motto for Dodge's team: "We always grow more from our losses than our victories." They should put it on a sign above the tunnel when the team comes out.
  16. I don't like the Kind and Gentles nickname, of course, but I like the fact that he cares about the entire Belt winning. Most of the media covering North Texas don't care about the conference much at all.
  17. Best line of the weekend around here. Thanks for the laugh.
  18. I was checking around the Sun Belt today and found the blog of Ted Hutton, the beat writer who covers Florida Atlantic. He calls the Mean Green the Kind and Gentles: http://weblogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports/college/fau/blog/2010/09/looking_past_north_texas_easy.html As Hutton says in another post, FAU's defense was "embarrassing" last year and is only slightly better this year. They gave up 453.2 yards and 33.8 points a game last season and are down to 395.5 and 30.5 in the first two games this one. I'd love to see the Kind and Gentles go in there and make that guy a little less smug. We're overdue a victory against FAU.
  19. UCF found the money to pay George O'Leary $1 million a year, and it's a school a lot like North Texas. Huge enrollment, big media market (Orlando), directional name, limited national rep and giant in-state schools that suck up all the media oxygen.
  20. It was pretty painful to hear Jason Sehorn, of all people, criticize North Texas for its tackling.
  21. One of the things people overlook, when discussing the possibility a name coach would come here, is that some of them need an opportunity more than they need money. Terry Bowden went 11 years after losing the Auburn job before taking over Northern Alabama last year.
  22. Yes to both questions. That's how college football works. The boosters who give the most to the program have a bigger voice. The fans who join the Mean Green Club and buy season tickets have a bigger voice than the ones who don't. You don't seem to understand how the game is played.
  23. It does in any business that isn't a monopoly. Either you gain market share or your competitors do. If you lose ground long enough, your CEO gets the axe.
