  1. I agree with shaft in another thread when he said something about the groundhog seeing helmet talk meaning the offseason would last five more months.
  2. I can't say I have issues with the state of our program with these facts in our corner: 1. Two trips to the NCAA Tournament in the JJ era (three overall) 2. Five consecutive 20 win seasons before 2011-12 and a mildly respectable 18 wins this season despite a late start for T-Mitch and various eligiblity and injury issues. 3. The best recruiting class in program history last season shaking the notion that elite talent won't play at North Texas. 4. A steady increase in home attendence that should continue next season with arguably the best roster in program history. Yes, we coughed up a hairball last week in Hot Springs last week and maybe we would have been playing in a "first round" game tonight, but I stand by what I said that even if we made the next 10 big dances in a row, we would be hard pressed to rise past a 14 or 15 seed because of the perceived weakness of the SBC. If it looks like I'm drinking the green kool aid, so be it but this is a program on the rise and this conference isn't rising along with it.
  3. Embarassed not so much for us (hey, I'm a good homer here). But it would still reflect poorly on the conference as a whole. Do we really want to be lumped in with the Southlands and SWACs of the world?
  4. I guess my biggest frustration here is this is our annual reminder that we are stuck in a one bid conference. I must say I would be much more excited watching MUTS going into the tournament as a 12 seed and their prospects, than WKU possibly losing tonight in a (yes, I'm going to call it a play-in) game. Like I said before, this further sets back what little national relevence the SBC had and makes it harder for future teams to garner a higher seed no matter what their record. It's events like this that make me even more inclined to offer my prayers to sweet, clean basketball, football, baseball, etc. Jesus that we have a seat at the Alliance table soon.
  5. I haven't seen this brought up here before so I'm going to take a shot at it now. The very fact that WKU is playing in a freaking play in game Tuesday for the "prize" of being a 16 seed in the big dance only to be slapped naked by Kentucky is a huge embarassment to the SBC and its members. Now I understand we had our opportunity to take care of this situation in the conference championship game last week but that rant has come and gone. To see the Sun Belt tournament champion relegated to a play in game quite frankly sets back even further the hope of "building the 'Belt" and makes this conference even less relevent on the national stage than before if that's possible. This isn't some sour grapes slam against Western Kentucky, they did what they had to do in Hot Springs. I guess it just further strengthens my resolve to see us out of this mess of a conference soon. By the way, had we won the tournament last week, where do most of you think we would we have been seeded? I can't see us having to play in a play in game.
  6. You know, Tony LaRussa is probably a little bored these days. Maybe he could be our first hire as manager.
  7. In the absence of our current bit concerning our chances in this game, let me function as a substitute and proclaim... We have no chance whatsoever of winning this game, or any other this season for that matter. There, I said it.
  8. Yeah, but do you think he would? Any lingering hard feelings?
  9. I had a hard time keeping my seat as well ...but still way too much information. P.S. The word "hard" was also used on purpose.
  10. I never saw where he "didn't give a flip". T Mitch going at half speed was still faster than most other players going balls out. Remember, he has but ONE practice with this team and 20 minutes of D-1 basketball under his belt as of now.
  11. Actually, they are GrrrrrrrrrrrrEAT!!!
  12. This makes this weekend's game the biggest one game event in the history of...well......ever! We win this game and hello top four seed in the NCAA's.
  13. If he turns him into a better football coach, I'll accept him as my savior
  14. Exactly! If Mitchell doesn't go for 35/15 and we don't beat Jackson St. by 50 or more, T-Mitch's scholarship should be pulled, JJ should be fired on the spot and the Super Pit burned to the ground.
  15. This is all good, but did they refer to us as North Texas STATE?
  16. Hoodies, now??? Is throwing down crip signs next?
  17. The main problem I'm having is, I just got my Roger Franklin tree up and decorated, and then soon, I'll have to take it down and put up my Tony Mitchell tree. Oh well, at least Walmart has layaway again...
  18. Just be careful where the buses are parked. Ask Texas A&M how things worked out for their buses in Lubbock.
  19. Wait a minute... Their fans were calling us a worthless school??? This coming from the fan base of a school that is drastically underfunded even by Sun Belt standards and should by all rights be dropped back into the depths of FCS if not deeper. The pot has once again referred to the kettle as black.
  20. I wouldn't say that argument NEVER works. If he has 4 star skills, he is throwing the ball to 2 and 3 star receivers and being protected from 2 and 3 star defenders by 2 and 3 star offensive linemen. I don't see it as likely that his presence at SMUt or North Texas for that matter would necessarily elevate the entire program around him.
  21. My take is, if Gilbert failed so miserably with the 4 star talent around him at tu, what can he accomplish with lesser talent around him like say at....SMUt? Just sayin'
