  1. That won't help in the upcoming conference tournament.
  2. Just to add a little context after listening to Mac's introductory event at Tech. Although I am sure that money and the possibility of advancing his career was part of his decision, there are plenty of family ties to Tech. His wife played soccer for Tech, his older sister went to Tech, and his grandfather played football for Tech. To me this seems as if Tech had a special appeal that other colleges may not have had and factored into this decision. I don't fault Mac for his decison and I think Tylor would be remiss if he did not consider how this all affects his future. He gave his all to UNT for 2 years, is getting a degree, and only has a one-time chance at setting himself and his family in a position for the future. I am not sure how you can fault them for that. And this comes from a 50+ year diehard UNT fan! I think they are considering family.
  3. I attended the Irving Schools Foundation "Breakfast with the Stars" this morning at the Irving Convention Center, which was emceed by Cynthia. This event awarded 253 seniors with scholarships in front of aproximately 1,000 people. Corporate sponsors, business and civic leaders were all present in the audience. Cynthia, in her opening remarks, of course mentioned she was a proud UNT graduate, but this year also made it a point to mention that the Mean Green were the NIT Baskeball Champions. When announcing winners and where they were going to school, she put special empahsis on UNT and always followed it with a "Go Mean Green." She always touts UNT but I was glad to hear the NIT Championship mentioned. It never hurts for students, heads of corporations, civic leaders, and the public at large to hear the accomplishments of UNT from such a visible alum. By the way, she does an excellent job as a emcee for an event that lasts about 4 hours. Live snipits on the news at 5, 6, and 10 on Channel 8 although I don't think the UNT statements are included! Just wanted to share how the NIT Championship is worth a lot in publicity in different types of settings as well as hopefully recruiting. Thank you, Cynthia, and GMG!
  4. Love the look on the kids' faces as well as Tylor's! Some future Mean Green fans in the making!
  5. I had my Mean Green shirt on today walking into a medical building for an appointment and, upon entering the lobby, an older couple was coming out and the gentleman said "Mean Green, ya'll sure had a good basketball team this year." Second time this week someone has commented on Mean Green basketball...people have noticed!
  6. Totally agree...at some point you have to look at the future and make tough decisions accordingly. I don't think anyone could say he didn't "pour his heart and soul into UNT" but now he has to evaluate his situation with a look to the future which offers opportunities that won't be available to him later
  7. And therein lies the problem we have had in UNT athletics the 50+ years I have been a fan...now is the time for this to change! The Mean Green nation needs/has to band together and really support all our athletic teams, starting with basketball, to become a major player nationally. GMG!
  8. Also think in the back of his mind is Seth's experience of not taking a higher profile job when offerred and the resulting history of that decision...strike while the iron it hot if you are a competitve person who wants to challenge yourself at another level. Wish he would stay but also wish him well if he moves on to Tech...he deserves our thanks and best wishes because he gave us his all out effort while here.
  9. I often wonder if Grant thinks about what happened to Seth when he didn't leave for the bigger stage when he had the chance. I do think Grant will keep winning at UNT but the AAC will be a tougher road.
  10. Me too...I watched her play as far back as high school and she has always been a class act
  11. Unless she is really set on continuing in coaching, I hope they find a role for her in the athletic department as an ambassador for UNT. I think she would be an asset.
  12. Note we have the fewest home games played at 6, along with Middle Tennessee
  13. Down to 4 healthy players against WKU on Sunday, but managed to pick up 1 point in a 4-1 loss due to forfeits. Anyone know the health/injury issues of the players and how long they will be out?
  14. UNT Tennis was finally ranked for the first time (#69 in the nation) going into a 3-match stretch Friday. Unfortunately they only had 5 healthy players so they had to forfeit two singles matches and a doubles match against Tulane Friday and UTSA Saturday, losing 4-0 in each match. Terrible time to be shorthanded. WKU is up on Sunday. I don't know if the injuries are long-term or not, but the timing could not have been worse. Hopefully they are back at full-strength soon! GMG
  15. I think there is a difference between the Most Valuable Player and the Best Player. Jelly Walker may be the best, most talented player, but Tylor was the Most Valuable Player to his team, thus earning the MVP Award.
  16. Perhaps there is a position within the Athletic Department that could utilize her ambassador skills?
  17. Interesting that all 5 members are from Texas universities
  18. Plus only one of the matches looked competitive. FIU was ranked #45 so they are a good team, but I had hoped for closer matches.
  19. Seems like I remember that in the past searchlights were used around the Super Pit on game nights...very effective because they could be seen at a distance
  20. So according to this guy, Austin Aune will be back as quarterback next year...breaking news to UNT, I think
  21. Am I reading this correctly...SMU and UAB are Friday games?
  22. Taking your idea a little further....perhaps we could have winners in different categories, i.e. Greek organization, athletic team, campus organization, dorm, etc., to encourage competition among peer groups. I think that might encourage more involvement because you would be compteting against your peer group.
  23. Will give the coaches an opportunity to see how their players would be treated if they joined the Mean Green as well as pick up some coaching tips
