  1. Coach Maren is a good coach. It also helps that LIberty seems to have unlimited funds for athletics, a problem that UNT does not currently have.
  2. UNT has never even had one indoor court, having to play at out-of-town facilities in bad weather. One indoor court, I believe is on the long-term master plan, but they really need to have about 6 to be able to hold matches indoors when needed. Does anyone know about AAC schools and their indoor tennis facilities? I know SMU has a very nice one but am not sure about the other schools.
  3. The Mean Green (7-3) were not very competitive this weekend against Maryland, losing 1-4, and Liberty, losing 0-4. They are back home, where they are undefeated, this Sunday at 11:00 against South Florida. They defeated South Florida 4-1 last season. GMG
  4. Thanks for the information. It looks like some talented players left to play at larger schools in Ole Miss and Michigan State. I hope we can keep the underclassmen for next year's team. I would imagine with foreign players there are more issues to deal with than with American players since they are so far away from home. I hope to see them do well in the CUSA tournament. GMG
  5. Did they lose many underclassmen from last year's team or have a lot of graduates? You seem to be knowledgable on these matters. I could look it up but it is sometimes hard to tell with the covid year issues and classifications and years of eligibility.
  6. Nice career accomplishment for Coach Lama and he did move UNT tennis to another level since he came aboard 17 years ago. However we have stayed at about the same level most of those years. Time to move up a couple of more levels to meet the standards that have been set for UNT athletic teams. I believe all 3 conference titles were when UNT was in the Sun Belt. I may be wrong but I don't remember us even making the finals in any CUSA Tournament. We need to up our game in moving to the AAC to be competitive. Anxious to see how this year's team does in our final CUSA Tournament. They have recently beaten weak teams, lost to ranked teams, and played some good teams well. A good showing in the final CUSA tournament would be a nice way to end our stay in CUSA. GMG
  7. Are the coaches on this year's staff recruiting players for their position coaching responsibilites or are they each assigned to recruit certain areas of the state?
  8. Zeke's for the real old timers. Across the street from the back of Maple Street dorm
  9. Love it...does it without wanting recognition or publicity...what a refreshing change to the "look at me" mentality of so many people today So proud of you being part of the Mean Green, Tylor!
  10. I believe that is a hand muff to keep hands warm on those cold game days.
  11. Congratulations KD...proud of you and your accomplishments for the Mean Green. Good luck in your future endeavors!
  12. If anyone wants to listen to this week's Mean Green Basketball Coach's Lunch Hour, it is available on The Varsity Network On Demand
  13. Enjoy reading about the positive things players are doing off the field...so much more important in life than playing the game. Players are provided a stage to affect many people and benefit when they use it to help others. Proud of you both on and off the field, Mazin!
  14. Agree, there is a differnce between performance and character. I never heard anything that led me to think that he did anything to disrespect himself, his team or the school. There is no reason to trash someone who has been nothing but a class act despite all the flack he received from some fans. He handled himself better than some of his detractors. Good luck, Austin.
  15. Ditto for me...good luck in the future, KD!
  16. It's been a blast having you as part of the Mean Green! Thanks for the memories.
  17. Many have given thier personal peference for the new UNT coach. I think the fanbase would be behind any coach who won meaningful games, regardless of personality, age, experience, etc. However, I wonder which of the four projected finalists listed by FootballScoop would be the most attractive to the current talent nucleus of players on the team, players already in the transfer portal, and future recruits. Any thoughts?
  18. I am assuming that the ticket allotment was done the same as a regular season game with the home team assigning the ticket locations. I had assumed that it being a championship game it might have been different, but I guess winning the regular season has this added perk. It isn't considered a nuetral site as scheduled by some conferences. Regardless, GMG!
  19. Wren, thanks for stopping by our place. We really enjoyed your stay and wish you well on the rest of your journey. GMG
  20. Morgan came in the last !:34 of the Fresno State game...not sure that answers your question
  21. Due to all the missed practices during the flu bug, this might be a benefitial game to play and work on some specific things against someone other than ourselves in practice
