  1. Husbands and fathers, grading out, viewing the tape, trying not to let things get crazy out of hand.
  2. Now that I realize what you mean and what you're calling me each time you use That Consonant... I've edited your post accordingly. We don't condone that sort of language here. Use That Letter again in the way you've already indicated you mean it to be understood, and you will be suspended from the forum.
  3. Whenever I see an asterisk (I won't use the symbol, because I find it offensive)... I'm painfully reminded of the work of the great Kurt Vonnegut, and his use of the asterisk as a graphical representation of an anal opening. When you use that character, it's the same thing as smashing your unwashed anus in the face of the reader. Please consider my example. Instead of ever typing an asterisk, I leave a blank space.
  4. C'mon, man! Google is there for a reason. https://www.dictionary.com/browse/recent So, if you graduated from North Texas during the Holocene Epoch, or sometime since the last great glacial retraction 11,700 years ago, @Brett Vito wants to hear from you. Did you learn fundamentals of pottery from the first experts in the field? ROTC during the evolution of the bow and arrow? Do your masters thesis in Physics on simple tools? Are you still not over the football team getting screwed over by the refs in that matchup against the wooly mammoth? Send your alphorn alerts, smoke signals and telegrams to Brett, please.
  5. If you paid every scholarship football player $40,000 per year, that would cost $3.4 million, less than 3.5% of what Wisconsin football is bringing in on revenue. Head coach Paul Chryst makes $4.15 million per year.
  6. Hey, any time you change a system, completely overhaul the philosophy, obviously it's gonna take time to make that work. You're not gonna go from a ground and pound attack to a run and shoot offense with no bumps along the way. That's one of the risks of an exotic offense or defense. It's painful to transition into it, and it's hard again if and when the time comes you go with a more traditional approach (if it doesn't work out). I think you just need to make sure it's not a "gimmick" system... Mike Leach might be able to make it work as a mayor or constable, but I don't think his game works at the governor or presidential level. So, it's a big question mark... Are we looking at Bill Walsh, or Jerry Glanville? Guess wrong, and you're doomed. Guess right, and you're transforming the whole game. But if it's not a gimmick, and you're committed to seeing it through... You gotta dive in with both feet. Expect it to take a few years to get that foundation in place and really see results. Whoever it is you elect, they need time to recruit their guys, to get a support staff in place that can teach the concepts and develop a system for winning. It's a risk, for sure. But I'm sick of seeing a never ending stream of first round playoff exits or 8-8 seasons. Sometimes you can't wake the sleeping giant without taking a giant risk. Bold leadership means bold choices. Whatever we're doing, let's aim for rings and trophies. Just my 2 cents.
  7. Did you like those three Supreme Court Justices? Did you enjoy those? I hope you did. I hope you did very much. Bill Frist is not walking back through that door. Tom Daschle is not walking back through that door. Fair weather "fans" need to wrap their heads around the complexity of the modern free agency era.
  8. Hey man, it's tougher than ever to keep a dynasty together in the post-salary cap era. It's easy for us as fans to look at decisions like this and think "c'mon, dig deeper and keep it going another few years". But when you're the one running the franchise, it's up to you to make the hard decisions. And it's all about the bottom line. So, yeah, it sucks that this is how the game works these days... But for me, it's all about the name on the front of the jersey, not the one on the back. So: next man up, show us what you've got, and earn that big contract. If you can't or you won't... Free market has no room for sentimentality. That's America. Win or go home.
  9. Buddy... If it were up to me, we'd just give 'em all a leather helmet, a jock strap, and a slap on the ass, then send 'em out there to pass some dang laws. I'm just old school like that.
  10. When I get done with a long week of manly, sweaty, greasy, blue-collar workin'... I want to sit back in my barcalounger on Sunday with a bowl of pretzels, an ice cold beer, a house empty of any damn spouses or offspring... And just WATCH SOME LEGISLATING. When I was a kid, legislation took 2 hours, 2.5 MAX. Now, with all the Hack-A-McConnell and Four Conyers offense, I'm lucky if I see a bill passed in less than 4 hours. THAT'S INSANE. First off, obviously, take out some of the damn commercials. But even that isn't going to solve it. So, whatever it takes... Designated Legislator? I'll try it. Shot clock? Whatever. Do it. Speed this up. Purists be damned. Throw out the record books, or write new ones. Just speed it up. It has to happen. Or you're going to lose the next generation. They'll abandon bicameral legislation structure for Fortnite or dancing the Charleston or whatever kids are doing these days.
  11. I think that the campus conservatives are weak, weak, weak in the rotation. Gotta git sum pitchin' if they want to be serious about contending. Witches? Well, it all comes down to the trenches. Not enough size on the lines, and there's no way around that. If they did a seance and asked Clara Peller, she'd set them straight. So, how does it shake out? I mean, that's why they don't play them on paper. Weak spots on both sides, so it's gotta be settled on the courtfield. Gonna come down to coaching, execution... Just intangibles, really. Who wants it more? Who has the most heart? Grit? Gumption? It'll be interesting to see, for sure. Anyone know what the Vegas line is? Any online books offering action?
  12. Buddy, if it's all green, it's most certainly NOT all good. Someone needs a much more balanced diet, and someone else needs a toothbrush.
  13. Nobody needs guarantee game money to make their budgets work than SWAC schools. As of an hour ago, they're out of the Fall Sports game entirely. https://swac.org/news/2020/7/20/general-swac-releases-statement-regarding-fall-sports-competition.aspx
  14. I suspect if Deion Sanders wanted to be a position coach at FAU, Willie Taggart and the AD over there would trip over their own dicks running with pen and paper to sign him up, recruited son or not.
  15. 3 YEARS AGO: 4 YEARS AGO: 6 YEARS AGO: 7 YEARS AGO: 12 YEARS AGO: 13 YEARS AGO: 15 YEARS AGO: ...so, just here on GMG.com, that's at least 14 different people, going back to the middle of the W. Bush administration, 2 years before the iPhone, and the era when Darrell Dickey was still on a 4 year run of championships and bowls.
  16. Benford/Dodge 2024: You're out of options
  17. To be fair, many at the time felt he was washed up. He was the reason for loads of success in Dallas, and he definitely put it all on the line every season. But it was obvious near the end of his tenure that the tide had turned. Coach Tom wasn't going to throw in the towel on his own... And while it wasn't pleasant to see it unfold, I'm glad Jerry Jones fired him quickly instead of putting him through the wringer. And it's not like the Cowboys hung him out to dry... He's still an icon, beloved by fans and organization alike. He's in the ring of honor, he's in the hall of fame... By any measure, he's permanently pressed into Cowboys lore.
  18. There is no way we're going to fire a coach after just two consecutive losing seasons. Not right after a run of multiple bowl games! I'm confident THIS time, we'll replace a QB with no hiccups or problems, get right back on track, nobody has a heart attack, and Seth keeps his job.
  19. Whatever that poor dog's picture wants, it ought to get. He's proven he's willing to leave on his own terms if he doesn't get it.
  20. The next time @Brett Vito writes a draft article and mentions the drought, please link back to this thread. We have three members that have been registered on this forum for a combined 46 years trying to remember the details of who, when, and what round our last draftee entered the NFL. For the 99% of people reading Vito writings that follow North Texas even less closely than the people here do, that "UNT hasn't had a player drafted since..." is an important detail that almost nobody knows, and answers a relevant question begged by the presence of future articles on potential draftees. Vito does, indeed, need to mention it when he writes articles about UNT and the NFL draft.
  21. Shut out of the NCAA and NIT this year. She didn't even make it past the first game of the Big 12 tournament. Troubling trend... The Baylor thing is pretty damning. Knowing that's a criteria, I'd keep an eye on Geno Auriemma. One of two or three that checks their boxes.
  22. No, I meant... And I didn't see that post a week ago... But, no one believes what their telling us. Personally, I don't blame them for lying because of the panic that will occur. Plus, they (CDC) know where their directives come from and who they have to protect if they want to keep their jobs.
